Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Jason Campbell

Ok, i may be preaching to the choir saying the same old things, but people need to realize that JC hasn't had a consecutive year of an offense for a long time.  He's had to remember so many terms and plays that he is bound to make mistakes, but once he gets comfortable, he'll be great.  For you people who think Todd Collins should be our starter, you need to also realize how old he is and how much experience he has.  I mean Campbell has more experience than him and he's only been in the league 5 years.  He may have TOOK us to the playoffs 2 years ago, but I don't see him being a better leader than JC.  After all, those four games came after Sean Taylor's death which meant that everyone had that feeling that they have to do it for him, they were filled with grief and wanted to let him know that they were going to fight and bring the same intensity that he did every single sunday.  Clinton Portis and Santana probably felt that they needed this for him, and that they werent going to let this team fold.  Jason Campbell will have a certain swagger this year as he looks to prove retard Snyder that he is the future of this franchise.  Don't get me wrong though, I have hated how JC takes the backseat role and lets other people be the leaders.  But i think this year will be special for us fans as we see Campbell shock everyone and actually lead a team deep into the playoffs.  In all honesty, I am thinking NFC East champs.  They can beat the Giants and the Cowboys, but the Eagles are looking scary this year.  If Jason can pull his act together this year, then we will be the NFC East champs.  I'm seeing Jason Campbell leading the O while DeAngelo Hall Comes in and provides that gamebreaking leadership that we have lacked.  With London, DeAngelo, and Landry hounding that D, we could possibly be #1 D in NFC, maybe even the league.  I know these expectations are extremely high, but from what they have showed the past years, I think we finally have the team we've been looking for.  If we don't make it to the Conference Championship this year then I will join the wagon of JC is not our QB, but right now i think he is.  I say CC because I expecting a division championship and winning Wild Card and Divisonals, maybe even a first round bye.

are you on drugs

first of all no offense to you but to win the nfc east yea right dont get me wrong i am a die hard redskins fan through in through while our defense might be really good our offense has a very long way to go even though i disagree with some people about jc being a good QB and rather see colt be our QB i will give jc the benifit of doubt but our offense really can not protect our QB all that well 2nd we are also lucky to even score a touchdown i hope we can turn this problem around but i doubt that will happen this year until we are able to start scoring some points we will be lucky at best to be 3rd in our division and i am hoping im very wrong but you also have to come back to reality and i do not mean to offend anyone but lets get real hear

Hoping JC changes won't win a super Bowl

I agree with your defense comments. We should be absolutely wonderful on D. With a little offense, we could be very good…. BUT hoping JC will change and be a leader AND a good QB is dreaming. JC could= be a good backup. Vinny has hurt teh Redskns selling JC a the future of teh team, instead he is just another bad Vinny move. I don’t know if Colt is good enough to play, but anything is better than Jason, except maybe Patrick Ramsy and Vince. We could be 14 and 2 with a good QB, instead of another 8-8 season with JC.

Just ride it out... This is JC's last year regardless

How many games do we give him. I think he is NOT an NFL QB or a leader, but lets put all the excuse mongers out there that allow every stat to favor JC back up what they say. How many games do we give him to prove he is a leader and can lead the team? I say 5. He wins 3 of 5 an moves chains, then that may be good. If not, heave ho.

If we don’t go to the playoffs this year, which we won’t if we stick with him, he is gone anyway. Finally, don’t you think that, unless he wins the NFC Championship, Zorn will be gone and his successor isn’t going to want JC to learn another offense!… See ya JC.

Campbell is horrible.

Stop making excuses for this guy everyone. 1 for 7. 10 yards. Some of the balls he threw were not even close. He overthrew Moss by 20 yards on a crossing route. The guy is a bust. We need to move on. I’d rather have Brad Johnson at this point. Yaeh, THAT Brad Johnson. Getting desperate in DC already.

FACT – Campbell will not be our starter in November.

FACT...

It is preseason, and it has about as much indication on the outcome of a season as what I just flushed down my toilet after pleasuring myself to thoughts of your mom.

Did he overthow Moss...

or did Moss run the wrong route? Remember, the West Coast offense is about timing and placement. Campbell is instructed to throw the ball to where the receiver needs to be, whether or not the receiver knows the pass is coming to him. If Moss went the wrong way after Campbell threw the ball, there’s nothing that can be done anymore. It’s not Campbell’s job to know when the receiver is going to get the play wrong. So unless you KNOW what play they called and where Moss was supposed to be, you can’t just blame Campbell for that.

With J.C. running the offen. 8-8 at best, only because we will have a great Def.and C.Portis

With T.Collins at QB we would finish at 11-5 and in play-offs.With C.Breenan OR C.Daniel at QB finish at 9-7 maybe wildcard.

Aren't you the one

who wanted Colt to be the starter all through training camp? Aren’t you the one who was convinced he would get us into the playoffs? Why Todd Collins now? I mean, I’ve heard of fair-weather fans, but seriously man.

Man, I remember the year after Big Ben got hurt he had the worst preseason ever, it was terrible. People were saying he was done, the injury was too much and he played on it, blah blah blah. Then he went out and had a monster season.

Preseason means nothing to the starters. You should take nothing from it. After the first game you can start this debate.

Can't say that

around here. This is the only town where the QB race is just as important as the Presidential race, and the backup is always the fan favorite.

by CJHutch on Aug 26, 2009 8:39 AM EDT up reply actions

Hey I understand

That will continue until someone grabs the position and doesn’t let go.

Or maybe it lasts even after that. Last year we had people wanting Batch or Dixon to start over Big Ben.

Apparently he holds to the ball too long and makes our offensive line look bad. That is unforgivable.

by Phantaskippy on Aug 26, 2009 3:04 PM EDT up reply actions

as I've said

on here before. I have NEVER seen this fanbase unilaterally happy with a QB. The one that sticks out the most is Rypien after the Superbowl. There were chants of Cary Conklin starting over the Superbowl MVP. Ridiculous.

When was the last time we HAD a great QB?? Theismann?? Sonny?? It gets frustrating.

Theismann

was great. If you don’t believe him, ask him.
Seriously though, his career was cut short, so I wouldn’t put him at great. But he’s the most talented guy we’ve had since Sonny.

Now, I never actually SAW Sonny play, but I’ve seen tape. And heard the stories. Sonny was great.

by CJHutch on Aug 26, 2009 6:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Vince Lombardi on Sonny:
Jurgensen is a great quarterback. He hangs
in there under adverse conditions. He may
be the best the league has ever seen.
He is the best I have seen.

Before Sonny, you probably have to go back to Sammy Baugh. These decades-long gaps between Redskins’ gunslingers is totally unacceptable.

agreed

on both counts. Unfortunately, I don’t see it rectified anytime soon. Not without mortgaging our future.

by CJHutch on Aug 26, 2009 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Evading the pass rush

Sonny often managed to duck under the pass rush. He didn’t have the pass protection that came with the Hogs. While many consider him the best pure passer his career completion rate was 57.1% – http://www.nfl.com/players/sonnyjurgensen/profile?id=JUR118654. Kilmer could do a draw play more effectively than Jurgensen.
For some reason George Allen preferred Kilmer to Jurgensen.

by Jefferson1935 on Aug 27, 2009 3:32 PM EDT up reply actions

I think

that’s because Sonny was the rogue player. He was the hard drinkin party animal who liked to do things his way, and that went against everything Allen knew.

Jason Campbell

If you could graph JC’s stats over the course of his career, you would see a slow and steady increase. Imagine a conservative stock portfolio with a nice consistent trend that does nothing but go up every year. At this point, there’s no reason to believe that trend won’t continue. Last season, JC’s most critical area of concern was his red zone production (13 TDs). He will need to increase that production at least 50% to give us a fighting chance.
