No Vacation for Vinny Cerrato - Scouting UK Defensive End Jeremy Jarmon
There is no off-season. As reported by kentucky.com, Vinny and three Redskins staff members were in Kentucky today to take a look at University of Kentucky DE, Jeremy Jaron. The Philadelphia Eagles worked him out this past June, but decided to pass. Jaron decided to skip his Senior year after failing a test for a banned substance, which seems to be more common than I thought among the NCAA (Redskins defensive end J.D. Skolnitsky). Jarmon was quoted that the suspension was not an issue with NFL teams. Jeremy's accolades are impressive:
- All-SEC (first team) by Rivals.com (2007)
- All-SEC (second team) by SEC coaches (2007)
- Univ Kentucky Co-Most Outstanding Defensive Player (2007)
- SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week for the Vanderbilt game
"First you evaluate (Jarmon) on film, and if you like what you see on film then it brings you down for the workout," Cerrato said. "It gives you a chance to see him move around and see him athletically, and you get to talk to him, his coaches and trainers and find out all the background information."
"I think he worked out well," Cerrato said. "He ran well and was in good shape. He needs to get a little stronger, but he represented himself well. He's a great kid, solid in the locker room, he's smart. He's got all of the intangible things."
Video after the jump...
We all are pretty aware that the Redskins prefer to use late picks or free agents to fill holes in both sides of the line. Orakpo was certainly a gift. Do we have any Hogs Haven readers that have watched Jarmon play?

Supplemental
The supplemental draft is done via e-mail. Each team submits to the league the names of the players they are interested in, as well as the round of the supplemental draft they would like to choose them in. The team that submits the highest bid is awarded rights to the player. If more than one team bids a pick from the same round, the team with the highest pick in the round wins out. If a team uses a pick in the supplemental draft, they must forfeit their choice in the corresponding round of the next year’s regular draft.

I'd rather
give him a shot than keep around 14th receiver with no chance of being here.

I watched him play a little bit ...
Being from FL with a dad who went to UK, I watch a lot of SEC football. Jarmon isn’t a game changer, but could help out the DL. A decent DL who would be able to put a little youth on our DL. I watch UK whenever they are on TV here in FL. UK isn’t known for their defense, that is for sure. He was probably their most valuable defensive player, and if I had to guess, he was probably doubled a lot, and/or had the RB help out the line while pass blocking.
I think he would be worth the league minimum and given a shot to help the Redskins play on the Line. He has a decent first step, but doesn’t stay low. Tries to blow by everyone and gets stood up a lot.
I have a hard time judging how a college player will do in the pro’s. I guess that’s why I don’t make the big money the scouts make.
Hope this helps … a little …
Never a dull moment!

Practice squad.
But at least Cerrato is still exploring options.

Good investment
Wynn and/or Daniels will make the team this year, but who is behind them for the future. Could possibly be a good investment for the future…
