Washington Redskins Slip to #20 Overall in ESPN Power Rankings
We haven't debated power rankings in a couple weeks. ESPN puts the Skins at 20, one spot lower than they were on the last release. Other notables:
NYG: 3
Dallas: 14
Philly: 4
Seattle: 18
I note Seattle because it looks like they are the team that jumped over the Redskins into the top 20 and moved them back a spot.
What say you out there? To me, the Philly ranking at #4 continues to be the one that puzzles me. I have loaded some questions up for possible debate.

New coaching staff
It’s not an easy adjustment…well, it was for the Steelers I guess. Colts seem to be in this stagnant water phase….a very good team, but they’ve lost that ‘power-house’ edge.

How does Seattle leapfrog the Skins when they have a ton of questions including the health of their own starting QB?
A couple reasons
Hasselback is “healthy” and Seneca Wallace had a pretty good year (even if Matt does go down). In in the fact they added Housh and play in a terrible division. Their record probably will be pretty decent. Seattle gave up the 8th most points in the league last year though…and they played the Rams and 49ers twice. Sheesh.

Does San Diego deserve to be as high as people are putting them? Their roster is stacked, but it was stacked last year too.
Regular Season, yes
But they always get out-coached in the playoffs whether its Marty or Norv.

Detroit
New coaching staff, new QB…I don’t see how they can play with any consistency. They’ll surprise with a few wins, but I can’t seem them leap-frogging anyone. Raiders and Rams get honorable mention as well.

Is that a rip on Jansen? ha

As long as Jake Delhomme is QB...
They’ll be a #11 ranking. With the Ravens current WR situation, I’m surprised they didn’t slip more.

Vick just got re-instated
Maybe the Panthers should get him as insurance.
by Kevin Ewoldt on Jul 27, 2009 3:32 PM EDT up reply actions
The Panthers would be perfect for Vick…
- Good team
- Close to home and a huge VT fan base
- They are Cats not Dogs,
- Instant upgrade over Cantwell and Moore and probably Delhomme for that matter
- Familar with the Division
- Could run a true wild “cat”
Also wouldn’t have to deal with playing in ATL (Week 2)
Cat fighting is quite comical...
not as lucrative though, so no worries of Ron Mexico falling into that world.
Sugar lost $3K in an underground cat fight once and he’s been reeling ever since. I texted him never to bet on Himalayan cats…yet he put everything on it against this smaller mutt cat from the Bronx…Sugar cried himself to sleep the next 3 weeks.

When Vick does play and is on the road, what is the probability of him getting sacked and “Who Let the Dogs Out” blaring on the stadium speakers?
Of all the rotten bets to make
You’d think you could count on an inside tip on a cat fight. Let me tell you that I learned a valuable lesson that day: When someone approaches you in the parking lot of an underground cat fight wearing a tee-shirt that reads, “My Other Cat is a Dog”, despite how badly you want to believe everything he says, you simply can not.

Anticipation of Brett Farve
Give me a break… I know this sounds rediculous but how much of an upgrade is Farve (you know the old guy that throws the ball as high as he possibly can) over Rosenfels?
I think a lot
If I was in Vegas, I would place a huge bet on the Vikes making the playoffs with Favre. They are better today than the Jets were last year when Favre joined them. I think the upgrade is exponential. I could be wrong of course, but I think it is simply huge. IF he is healthy.
Their offensive line is really, really good. So you have one of the all-time great QB’s back there with a crazy good running game and a decent amount of time to make the right throw. Though Favre makes some dumb decisions, Rosenfels and Jackson simply can’t process the game the way Favre does, due to his experience and success.

You know I have a non-sexual man-crush on Brett Favre
And you know that it is only non-sexual because Brett has already screwed so many people in the last 20 years that by having sex with Brett Favre, I would—by the associative property of sex—be having sex with the entire Green Bay fan base, the entire Jets roster and their whole fan base, as well as Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson. That would be the biggest orgy since Kevin went on vacation to that ferret farm out west.

I know it sounds insane but if I was a Vikes fan I would rather have Rosenfels starting this year rather than Farve. He is broken down dude, I mean when he had any health questions two years ago he had a QB rating in the low 70s. The guy should of retired last summer and gone out on a high note with the Pack.
Rosenfels has been preparing himself for an NFL season while Farve has been throwing to middle school kids, I just don’t think he has it any more, but I could be wrong.

HEEEEY!!!
Alright… we agree again. I knew it could happen. I’m with you on this one. Favre, quite frankly, hasn’t been anything more than a mediocre QB the past TEN years. Does he make the Vikes better? Eh. With that specific team, the last thing they need is a QB that’ll make dumb decisions. Let your elite run game and solid defense win, and have your QB pick up first downs when he can, but be content to punt when it’s not there. Favre won’t give them that.
let them keep us there
Power rankings are literally manifestations of football “analysts” masturbating and making completely irrelevant predictions about the season.
I have no problems at 20. For some reason, a team that finished 4th in the NFL in defense, added Albert Haynesworth and upgraded on the O-Line and finished 8-8 in the NFC East last year is being overlooked. We may not be a top 5 team but after all these years, we should know that it’s better to be overlooked than overrated.

Not looking to start an argument
‘cause I haven’t been on your site that long, but how do you figure you have improved your Oline?
Homer: Aw, twenty dollars! I wanted a peanut!
Homer's Brain: Twenty dollars can buy many peanuts!
Homer: Explain how!
Homer's Brain: Money can be exchanged for goods and services!
Homer: Woo-hoo!

several reasons
Added Derrick Dockery who shined his time here. Skins also cut 2 liabilities b/c of their age: Jon Jansen and Pete Kendall. Jansen’s replacement Stephon Heyer has improved greatly. Pro-bowler? No…but he won’t get mowed over like Jansen did.
by Kevin Ewoldt on Jul 28, 2009 9:18 AM EDT up reply actions
Amen!
In addition the Redskins will not move up quickly, as the rankings are changed.
1. “analysts” all feel the first part of the Redskins season is the easy part
2. The collapse from last year will be brought up every other day, and twice on Sundays
The rankings will remain where they are for a long time, here’s to a good season.
Where was Arizona ranked this time last year?
I don’t know why, but certain teams are overrated in the preseason year after year after year. Seattle, Minnesota and Carolina come to mind.
Most preseason predictions come down to picking most the teams that won last year to do it again, and sprinkling in one or two teams that won a couple years ago and supposedly had an “off year” last year.
I don’t know how Dallas didn’t come immediately to mind

McNabb's Outlook
Donovan McNabb on the Philadelphia Eagles…
http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/07/27/donovan-mcnabb-faces-more-pressure-than-any-nfl-qb-in-2009/#cont
“We’ve got a lot of 20, 21-year-old kids on this team,” McNabb said. “It goes back to, can you do the same things you did in college at the pro level? Some can, some can’t. So it’s hard to know what we have.”
“For me to sit here and say we’re a Super Bowl team, or we’re going to win the Super Bowl, I don’t believe in that,” McNabb said. “I think at the end of the year we’ll find that out. We have a great team. We have great talent here. We just have to put the pieces of the puzzle together, and if we do that, I think we can probably write our own ticket and be able to finish this thing off in Miami. But no matter who we bring in here, we’ve got to go out on the field together and perform.”
This is coming from someone who obviously plays with and is around the team a lot more than these so-called experts. Something is wrong if the media’s opinion of a team is more ecstatic and jubilant than an actual player from that team.
I don’t know if certain teams are paying for their rankings, but I just don’t see how these analysts and “experts” produce their rankings.
The Iggles
remind me of MMA “star” Kimbo Slice. He was crowned and over-hyped as this badass street fighter phenom… who ends up getting knocked the **** out in 14 seconds by some no-name, pink-haired journeyman.
RAK EM UP!
Not sure exactly what he said wrong there...
He basically said we have a talented team, but it doesn’t mean dick if we don’t win. What would have been a better thing to say?
