"On paper we've got what it takes to be one of the top [units]. And it will be a travesty, I'm just gonna put it out there, if we don't get at least 40 sacks this year, I'm just gonna put it out there. I'm talking about at least. At least. No doubt about it... We've got to do the work first... But on paper we have the depth, we have some of the top players in the NFL overall as a group. We've got to make it happen on the field, but I believe we've got what it takes."

Renaldo Wynn, Interviewed by Lavar Arrington and Chad Dukes yesterday

A good interview overall. This was in the second segment. He also said the Orakpo will start at OLB this season.

I agree with Wynn

This is not a year for the D to disappoint. Or anyone for that matter. I’m calling it right now,the Redskins will have the #1 Defense in ‘09/’10. Good interview.

Disruptive forces

Griffin (if he stays healthy) and Haynesworth will be monsters on the inside, and Wynn talked about how much of an impact they will have. We also have solid backups at DT and Wynn and Daniels (who is ridiculously strong) can move inside too. I have heard critics say that the DT position is not the most important position in terms of changing the game, and thats why this defense is not getting more love. Obviously Wynn is a little biased, but I’m gonna trust his judgement of their importance over the so-called experts.

The passing mention of Orakpo being the day-one starter at OLB was surprising to me. I doubt they’ve made that decision fully yet, but the fact that Wynn gets that sense seems of consequence. I really hope that 1) Orakpo will get moved around and take plenty of snaps at DE during the season, and 2) he is 100% comfortable at LB.

Wynn

Sugar and I had a 30-minute talk with Renaldo at Cooley’s fundraiser. He told me he plans to share EVERYTHING about the Giants D…all their schemes and ideologies. That should definitely help out our offense. I’ll be curious to see what the line is week 1…I’m guessing Giants -6.5….and I’ll take the Skins!
