Clinton Portis
CP had the footwork and athleticism necessary to EXCEL behind zone blocking schemes in Denver (2002 – 1508 yds. & 15 TDs; 2003 – 1591 yds. & 14 TDs). He would basically do a 1-step cut and then be off to the races. When Portis came to Washington, Gibbs told him to bulk up so he could run behind a different blocking style in the Beast. Now, he’s dropping around 10 lbs. off of his playing weight to add more speed behind our zone blocking.
2009 – 2000+ yds. & 15+ TDs ? ? ?

If he can just be healthy
going into the playoffs, I’d be happy…

yeah, remember those 16 games before the playoffs that we need to win more than the other teams?
if you say we are guaranteed a playoff spot you just lost all credibility
Unlike last year
I have playoff expectations going into this season.

If Portis had spent his career behind a (good) zone-blocking scheme I’m convinced he’d be breaking records.
He is THE prototypical zone blocking back. Extremely quick, with elite speed and good power for his size.
It sounds like Zorn
is taking the Dungy approach to coaching in the NFL:
“You know, there’s some really great principles—I try not to force certain principles on them—but I try to make sure that we’re also building each other up as men as well. And that’s part of the deal. These guys are young guys, some of ‘em are fresh out of college, and they’re still young men trying to become adults. And I think with all the things that are thrown on these guys today, they need to hear some wisdom nuggets, if you will. And it’s not just me. We’ve got some excellent coaches that have some real conviction in their lives, and they try to impart that. Jerry Gray does a lot of it. And we do it with humor, and we do it with serious points as well.”
