Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

Mike Florio irresponsibly suggests that there may be more to Landry's no-show to voluntary OTAs. He claims that there are "whispers that Landry possibly wants out of D.C."

I just sent an email to Skins PR...

I want to bury this rumor real quick…I’ll post my response when I get it.

“whispers” = Landry’s agent is playing games

Skins PR

I just heard back from Skins PR and they said they have not heard anything regarding Laron Landry holding out. F’N Florio…I’m removing that link from the daily slop.

Laron did this last year, so it’s not like this is something shocking. And he just signed a 5-year extension 2 years ago, so $$ can’t be it. Florio is an idiot.

7/29/2007: Signed a five-year, $41.5 million contract. The deal includes $17.5 million guaranteed. 2009: $935,000, 2010: $1.2675 million, 2011: $1.6 million, 2012: $1.9325 million (Voidable Year), 2013: Free Agent

Yeah

that’s why I don’t put any stock into it. I think part of the problem is some Skin fans (and outsiders) see Landry as selfish and not a team player. I’ve heard about him missing autograph signings and I know he’s generally standoffish with fans and the media. But, the only thing that strikes me as strange is how Landry isn’t responding to Zorn’s calls or texts. I know he’s not obligated, but it just seems like the professional thing to do.

When I heard Zorn talk about it.

He didn’t say that Landry was avoiding his calls and texts, he said he’d called LaRon and he does text messaging now.
That there were no replies was an assumption that got overblown.

Not exactly an accurate metaphor, unless you’re a professional athlete who has to train and study in the off-season.

Well,

the reporter asked Zorn if he had “talked to Laron,” and Zorn smiled and responded that he had “called Laron, and he was getting pretty good at texting…” I would think if he had actually talked to him he would have said, “yeah, I talked with him and blah blah blah…”

Regardless, as long as Landry’s absence doesn’t affect other players or hurt his own development in training camp or affect his production when the season starts, I guess it really doesn’t matter. OTAs are voluntary, after all.

That sounds like they are exchanging texts.

I don’t think Zorn ‘gets good at texting’ by continuing to text a non-responsive player, no matter how important to the D.

I don’t think our coach is that needy, is he??

They probably are just texting.

Not a Bad Idea

Lets trade him and get a high draft pick for him. In all honestly, what has he done for us?
-4 INT’s in two years (3 in Seattle)
-Plethora of personal fouls
-Numerous DROPPED INT’s
-2 sacks

Biggest of all he doesn’t seem to be a game changer. If he wants to go, show him the door. Just like Jason Campbell, this year should be a defining season #30.

We need to get

1 more year out of him first.
