Skins have the number 1 overall pick...

Who should they choose?  No trades, no passing...who should they select with the top pick?  Stafford?  Crabtree? Orakpo? J. Smith or Curry?  Colt McCoy?  lol.  Just crossed my mind, thought I would ask around.

Though I think I would go for Curry, he is arguably the biggest potential instant upgrade.  I trust our veteran guys to hold down the DE spot for ONE more year.  But that would be my second choice.  O is a little light, and even though we now have a massive body inside, I hate being run on, and the old men we have in place are well suited to stop the run.  Curry can rush the passer from the Sam spot, or even go to DE on passing downs.

Smith or Crabtree.

I’m personally leaning towards Crabtree… the dude can flat out play

Crabtree

If we draft another WR in the first round, especially if we had the #1 pick, I’m joining the Ravens fan club.

WRs are SO risky…no point in dropping 30 mil on a question mark. Curry or a “fat boy” as Smoot would say to protect JC.

As much as I hope they succeed...

Devin and Malcolm haven’t really shown they can play yet. I know that has a lot to do with injuries and I’m rooting for them but if they don’t pan out, we have a really big hole at WR. Santana is great but he’s not all that consistent. He’s a big play guy but for JC to really succeed we need a guy that can constantly pick up third downs and keep the offense moving. I think Crabtree fits that mold.
Curry is great but he’s not a special pass rusher like Demarcus Ware and for that reason he doesn’t really have enough value to warrant a #1 pick.

Curry is a LB!

Demarcus Ware is a DE. Aaron Curry has played some DE in college, but his natural position is OLB which, BTW, we need a helluva lot more than WR!

Just out of curiosity, if you drafted another WR, who would you start at that position? You can’t bench Moss, so now you have to choose between ARE or 3 unproven receivers. Somebody won’t play very much (if ever), so you really won’t ever know the full potential of your WRs from last year.

If Snyderrato was that unsure about the 2 WRs (3 if you count TE Fred Davis) we drafted last year, then they should have gone after Houshmandzadeh who would have fit perfectly in Zorn’s dink and dunk offense.

The only reason Curry probably won’t be taken at #1 or #2 is because the Lions are completely rebuilding (with a LT or QB) and the Rams need a LT bad. But he is definitely 1st pick material!

Demarcus Ware plays outside linebacker in the 3-4

but that’s my point. He doesn’t have elite pass rush skills so he shouldnt go #1.The only reason he might go #1 (if the lions/rams didn’t have such obvious holes) is because he’s the safest pick in the draft. That doesn’t mean he’s going to be the best player to come out of this draft, it just means hes definitely going to be good.

Ur right.

Ware does play LB in a 3-4. I’ve watched him line up on the end so many times I forgot that, technically, he is a LB.

From Pro football Weekly:

“1. SLB Aaron Curry, Wake Forest
6-1 3/4, 250, 4.61

A thickly built, strong, physical, hard-hitting ’backer with the size, instincts and overall athletic ability to line up at any position in a 3-4 or a 4-3 front. Curry’s value in large part stems from his versatility, as few linebackers possess the skill set to be effective at any position in either system. Might not have the overall length desired in a rush linebacker but has been extremely productive playing over the tight end, and his strength at the point of attack and ability to shed blockers is rare. With knuckle-breaking hand strength, he ragdolls blockers and plays a big man’s game with power. The most complete ’backer to come out in a long time, Curry has few deficiencies in his game and easily could fit into the top five. Scouts love his physical skill set."

As far as rushing the passer, he wasn’t asked to rush the passer in college so it remains to be seen how effective he will be at it.

Agreed.

Curry or a fat boy. I think Crabtree is gonna be a bust.

Aaron Curry.

OLB is our most glaring need and Curry is the safest pick in the draft.

Curry/Crabtree

Both are going to be stars. Curry will be the best def. player taken in the draft. As for Crabtree being a bust I don’t believe it he came out of high school never playing one down at WR started at A&M as a true freshman and lead the country in rec yards and catches. And we all know what kind of year he had this year. I just don’t see a big let down with him.

That's a joke.

I assume you think Graham Harrell will be a star too?? Let’s see, Harrell and Crabtree played for Texas A&M under Mike Leach’s spread offense. Recent QBs/WRs from Texas Tech who have played in the NFL include….. um…… err…… yeah…………

Jason Smith is the easy pick

Jason Smith if the Skins had the number 1 overall pick would be a no-brainer. Chris Samuels is entering his 10th Season. Jon Jansen is entering his 11th Season. The Redskins need to replace Jansen now. They soon will need to replace Samuels.

If the Skins had this pick and didnt draft either Smith or Eugene Monroe id be really upset. Id lean with Jason Smith though because hes the better of the two OT IMO.

RIP Sean Taylor (1983-2007)
