Kiper picks Sanchez for Skins
Looking at Mel Kiper's latest mock draft on espn.com, he comes up with Sanchez for the skins. Of course, its based on the Skins stance of taking the best player available (and he believes if Sanchez came back for his senior year at USC he would be the number 1 pick). I cannot stress enough how much I disagree with this pick. Even if he's the best player available, its not something I as a fan could endorse. It likely comes mostly from liking Colt, and wanting to see him get a chance, I admit. The only way such a pick would be palatable, would be if JC were moved draft day for a second round pick or a 3 plus another pick or player dependent on position. Then we are forced to start all over at QB. I am completely in favor of letting your 1 rounders start off the bat, but because of Colt's familiarity with the offense (though USC runs a pro-style offense, so it could be a decent transition) should allow him to be the assumed starter. And with the hatchet always looming overhead, Colt would give Zorn the best chance to win now.

Shortly after compiling his mock draft,
Kiper suffered a fatal heart attack after seeing his reflection in a mirror and realizing that a hair was out of place.

Snyderrato plan is working...
So after the Cutler/Leftwich debacles and working Sanchez out, it looks like people really do believe Cerrato would draft a QB with the #13 pick.
The odds of the Skins trading back just went up a few points since if Kiper believes the Skins would draft a QB, then so would some GM’s. If the Skins draft a QB round #1, I can pretty much guarantee Snyderrato and Zorn would lose the entire locker room.

I third that
but …Campbell can play..we’ve seen it..he does as well as the group around him..
I don’t feel all that bad about Campbell on the verge of Free Agency and a huge pay-day

Hopefully all smoke
There’s no way they’re trading JC. Campbell is a smart and talented quarterback. Cutler is one of the top QBs in the league, so I can see why Snyder would see what it might take to bring him in. But I still think he’s behind Campbell. At least I hope so…
The one up side to this mock draft is that IF (strong emphasis), Sanchez falls to us, we will be able to trade down to pick up more picks. So…. Kiper might be right on at least the #. I’m still hoping for any of the USC LBs or an OT (though I’m not really sold on the mindset of any of them).

JC
welcome to HH ssblitz.
Yea, we already tried to ship JC for a 2nd round pick (in the Cutler frenzy) and no one bit on it….so nothing should change on that front. JC has been working all off-season and has a year under Zorn’s offense…it makes no sense to bring in a new QB this year (rookie or vet). Burn a 1st round pick next year on a QB if they must. Man, is it just me or I feel like Ive been typing the same comments for 7 days now defending JC. Kiper is a ding-dong.

Kiper Dong
Thanks for the post promotion.
I do think I can agree with some of the consensus that Sanchez could go at this spot-just maybe not to the skins. There are several teams within about 10 slots who could certainly benefit from Sanchez, and should the Lions continue their draft retardation and not take Stafford with the number 1 pick, they could definately look to swap if he is available at 13. Beind us are still the Jets, Bucs, and Vikings…Bucs I could see moving up, and the Jets have a trade relationship with the skins that could benefit us here.

You don't pass on him at #13.
You just don’t pass up that much talent at that point in the draft. You shop the pick and get as much value out of it as possible or you just bite your tongue and pick him. I wouldn’t be worried about it though, he’s not going to drop to #13 and somebody will trade up to get him before then.

On that note
if you trade down, you get more compensation than you normally would or else you keep him. But like I said, he’s not falling that far.

Why?
He had a sensational season in his first season starting. All the experts consider him a top 5 talent. How am I overestimating his value? Top 5 guys rarely fall to #13 so if he’s there, you have to either take him or trade the pick for what he’s worth.

This isn't
some QB like Jay Cutler or Eli Manning, who stands out as a fine college QB among a team full of otherwise scrubs. This is a guy playing quarterback with a ton of future NFLers. I could win the Heisman playing QB at USC against Pac-10 defenses — especially when you’ve got the top-ranked unit on the other side of the ball keeping your opponent’s offense from putting points on the board. Who are Matt Leinart and John David Booty starting for these days — wait, they’re what? They’re both backups?? Hmm… what are the odds?
Not to mention Sanchez’s sexual harassment allegations….

TG!
Not specifically directed at Sanchez, but every CFL player is an outstanding CFL player, which explains why they are drafted into the NFL however not every outstanding CFL player will become an outstanding NFL player.
The teams which rebuild through the draft are able to do it by having a large number of draft picks which improves the chances of finding good to outstanding NFL players from the CFL. Any team targeting the “flashy” CFL players will not be succesful, see Detriot.
Last year the Redskins had 10 picks all in the 2nd round or later, I am promoting the team again trades out of #13 for more picks, providing more opportunity, even is a Sanchez happens to be at 13…better to trade away for more picks then to take an outstanding player on an outstanding team which has not played a down in the NFL

Didn't notice you without the normal picture.
Nice tribute though. Fine, lets pick Josh Freeman #1 overall since he played with a horrible defense and was kind of okay. He’s going to be the next Jay Cutler!!!!!

LOL-
USC QBs!!!
He wouldn’t be worth #13 $$$ to us- better to trade away if that’s the only option!! We are in no need of QBs from the draft- we picked one up last year that’s not bad… why would they want another?!?

I thought Sanchez was picking up steam
If he is ready to play in this league, and Stafford goes first, I find it hard to believe that the second best QB makes it to #13. The Skins would love for that to happen so they could dance with the devil and have yet another bad decision staring them in the face, but I am guessing if a team trades up to grab him, it happens in front of us.

Sanchez
I don’t know what all the fuss is he won’t be there at 13 anyway. If the Hawk’s don’t take him the 49ers will.
by RedskinCali63 on Apr 10, 2009 6:21 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
49ers
will NOT draft Sanchez. They have invested too much in the QB position to trade up and sign him to the large deal he would already get. Seahawks are an option, but IF healthy, the hawks can hold off another year drafting high on QB or get Davis in a later round…he will need to time to learn anyway.

Hawks a strong possibility
First draft for boy wonder up in seattle, he may wish to make his mark with a “franchise QB”, one that will have a little time to learn behind Hasselback the no longer chosen QB. Ego’s tend to make decisions which are not always the best decisions.

Kiper on ESPN Radio
He just said that he can’t mock the trades, but expects TB or the Jets to move down to the 7-9 spot to get Sanchez. He continued on to say that Sanchez will not make it past 13 and if the Redskins took him, it would be to push JC. He thought Jason needed to be inspired to play better and that it would be a positive sign if he showed some emotion during the game….and that the competition would bring that out.
by liger99 on Apr 11, 2009 2:32 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
This is crazytalk.
I’m clinging to the notion that this all a guise to trade back. It would make no sense at all to spend our 13th pick on a benchwarmer. Especially with our needs at LB and OL.
IF, for some reason, JC underperforms or is injured, we’ve got Colt next in line to experiment with.
IF (worst case scenario), JC, Colt, and Collins are all busts, then next year there are about 5 potential 1st Round QBs that will probably be available.

Crazy like a fox
It’s hard to believe that this is a setup perpetuated by the front office but if Sanchez is available at 13 then who is left on the board at other positions? I’m not saying Sanchez would be the pick or a good pick but if he’s there then most of the players targeted by the Redskins fans are gone…Smith, Oher, Cushing, etc…Just saying

I don’t think the Redskins will take Sanchez either, but keep in mind that Kiper is a Ravens season-ticket holder and he’s also plugged in pretty closely to the Redskins. So let’s not completely dismiss the most famous mocker of them all.
