Danny, get this man signed quickly!
Pro Bowl fullback Mike Sellers has not been participating in the Redskins' voluntary offseason program, according to league and team sources, and is seeking a new contract. Sellers signed a four-year, $4 million deal in March 2007, which included a modest $700,000 signing bonus, and reached the Pro Bowl for the first time in 2008.
I'm hoping and assuming that we'll gladly give him a new contract without any problems. If the Redskins FO wants to begin to turn the corner, one of the things they will have to do is sign this guy like right now, there's no need for any drama that can be averted if the Redskins just give Sellers the money he deserves. Do any of you think that the Redskins would actually be hesitant to give Sellers a new contract? I surely hope not.

hell no
they can’t be this retarded. the fact that this is even an issue is sick. pay that man his money and let’s keep it moving
BUT
let me also say that they don’t need to break the bank. we all know that this team needs to start getting younger.
I see that he has good ’ol Drew as his agent now, geeze…
probably time to start thinking about finding his replacement, hopefully next years draft if we manage to hold onto some picks
get him signed but still
how much does he want and for how long, he is def not getting any younger

What is the correct compensation?
:4 year-4 million dollar deal sounds about right, and that what he’s working under now.
The report states a fact about Sellers missing workouts, but no actual comments from the player…huh?
:See if he shows up to Mini-Camp.
I want
Sellers to stay on the team, but it seems that he’s become a little greedy now that he went to the pro bowl. If he didn’t gain that pro bowl trip then I would almost guarantee that he wouldn’t be asking for a new contract. I don’t really know who’s out there as far as fullbacks so I don’t think there’s anyone that would be able to replace Sellers. (let’s hope we don’t have to) Lorenzo Alexander is Mr. Versatile on our team, he could step in for Sellers :)
+1
2007 dollars: three-year, $5.1 million contract signed by San Diego fullback Lorenzo Neal
So, neal did a 3 year 5.1 million contract at the same time Sellers did a 4 year 4 Million contract, sounds about right.
Did Sellers recieve any compensation for making the Pro-bowl, if not who’s fault is that the teams for not putting it in or the player for not making it an incentive?
Yeah
I’d like to know exactly what Sellers wants. Sellers will be 34 years old in July so I hope he doesn’t want anymore years added to his contract. He’s basically playing to the level of his contract, so just because he made the pro bowl doesn’t mean he deserves more money all of a sudden. The pro bowl, but more significantly, Drew Rosenhaus has gotten to Sellers’ head.
This really sucks
He was out of the NFL for all those years and was so happy just to be back in the NFL. He wouldn’t have made the pro bowl if the Skins didnt pull that stunt that pushed a HUGE amount of votes…not saying he didnt deserve it….but this just stinks. This really is Rosenhaus…and Rocky is Rosenhaus now too, who is negotating a new deal.
Exactly.
Is that Rocky renegotiation to give him more $ or save the Redskins against the cap? Who initiated this?
As for Sellers, I really hope he just sits tight for one more year and then maybe renegotiates next year… (hopefully without a salary cap).
Curry, Orakpo, or the top 4 OLs... or back.
I don't blame him
Don’t get me wrong, I hate everything about Drew Rosenhaus. But Mike Sellers has served this team very well over the past few years. Before that he played in Winnipeg. Do you know how much money CFL players make? I say let him try and cash out at the end of career. What do we care, it’s Dan Snyder’s pockets.
If he really is
sittingn out for a new contract, release him. There are actually a couple of capable fullbacks in this years draft, and in worse case scenario, Alexander could add that feather to his cap, and save the redskin’s (salary) cap as well-every dollar counts this year-though perhaps not the next…
Though let it be known, I do like Sellars, but his age and his declining versatilty(skills beyond blocking) are concerns. We can improve that this year.
ARMY STRONG
Sellers...a keeper
I’m not a fan of renegotiating contracts, but I would be willing to talk to Sellers about adding a year or two to his current contract, along with a signing bonus for it. Last time I looked, NFL contracts can be terminated if the team wants to drop a player.
Sellers is a valuable player whose role on the field should be expanded, he has good hands, and should be used more often in short-yardage situations.
