2009 Redskins Schedule Released
I dont like playing the Giants on the road week 1 and finishing at the Chargers week 17. Its not that bad though when we got the Eagles in DC on MNF wk 7, the Giants in DC on MNF wk 15, and the Cowboys in DC on SNF wk 16.
Overall, I love this schedule. Im going to say we go 9-7 but we have the potenial to win 11 games if things break right.

I don’t like the spread of the conference games.
It’s not as bad as last year when the Skins had three away conference games in the first 5 weeks (with a back to back at Dallas and Philly), but I definitely don’t like that the three away conference games are among their first four conference games. (Granted the Skins worked it to their advantage by winning 2 of those 3… but I still don’t like this schedule). I guess it could be worse with three conference games in a row like the Eagles and Giants have, but at least their home/away conference schedule spread is “evener”.
It definitely looks like the Cowboys got the easiest conference schedule in NFC East. But, hey, at least we’ll be glad we’re not Philly in late October and November… they’ve got three conference games (including a game @FedEx), @ SD, @CHI and then against the Skins at the Linc. The toughest stretch I see for the Skins is the 3 game end of the season… and at least two of those are home games.
Finally, I’m not really looking forward to the weather during the three December home games… can you tell I’m a warm weather type of person?
I think the last three games are actually pretty good for us. The Giants and Boys at FedEx sets us up in nice shape for a late season push for the playoffs. The Charger game will be very tough but it could just maybe (cross our fingers) work out to our advantage if San Diego decides to rest their starters because they already have wrapped up the division.
I think we got the easiest conference schedule in the NFC East since we get to face the Lions and Rams. Hopefully we win them though. The Cowboys last 5 games are a murderers row of insane games.

First, I should mention that I meant to say division schedule when I said “conference schedule” in my post. So, yes, the Skins’ conference schedule is easier than the Cowboys (the Skins’ actually have the easiest S.O.S. in the NFC East, but we already knew that going in) but I think the Cowboys have the easiest divisional schedule because their divisional games are more spread out (they have only one divisional back to back, we have two and the Eagles and Giants have three divisional games in a row). Also, and this is somewhat nitpicking, their divisional home/away pattern isn’t as lopsided (i.e. ours divisional schedule is Away, Home, Away, Away, Home, Home and theirs is Home, Away, Home, Away, Away, Home).
About the end of the season being tough, I guess I just don’t have the confidence in home games as I used to… especially conference home games. Now, I definite like not playing an NFC team in the last game of the year, but I just do not trust the Chargers to wrap up their division so easily. Yeah, it’s a horrible division, but considering how last year went, and that LT is no longer looking like the old LT, AND that our good friend Norval Eugene is still at the helm there… I’m gonna still be leery about the Chargers having it wrapped up by then.
I see what your saying now. I actually think we have the easier schedule in all aspects though. I dont think I have ever seen the Skins have three divisional games at home that are all on MNF or SNF. Thats a pretty big advantage. Hopefully, we can take advantage of those games.
The Cowboys might have a easier division schedule but when you factor in their final 5 games of the season I dont think their divisional advantage outweighs those last 5 insane games. At Giants, Chargers, At Saints, At Redskins, Eagles. Having 3 division games wrapped around tough teams like the Chargers and Saints with 2 of those division games being on the road is insane. If they go 2-3 id be impressed. The Cowboys also got all the pressure on their shoulders because they got to face the Eagles again week 17 this time in their house. They will have so much pressure to win that game to make up for last year that it is going to be such a hard game to win.
I dont think right now the Charger game we have week 17 will be wrapped up either but its possible. The division will probably have been won weeks ago. Its just really going to depend if they have to play for seeding in the AFC.
RIP Sean Taylor (1983-2007)
Yeah, I can see your point that overall their tough late schedule outweighs the easier divisional schedule…. but I’m still not a fan of their easier divisional schedule.
I guess that stretch will be especially hard if the new stadium doesn’t provide a good home advantage. Hopefully they’re not building Qwest Field version 2 down in Arlington.

What about the Eagles makes you think they’ll win 13 games? They lost a ton of key players and their D Coordinator is still recovering from cancer.

I hope im wrong lol. The Eagles still have alot of talent on both sides of the ball. The other 3 NFC East teams have alot more issues going into 2009 than the Eagles.

They do have
A LOT of draft picks.

Not a bad pre-season breakdown
Although, Do not like the Redskins not making the playoffs.
1. The Eagles will not be that strong, although only one team to the playoffs out of the NFC east would not surprise me.
2. Do agree that Atlanta will return to average or worse, expect Tampa, Seahawks, Rams and Detriot to challenge for the worse record in the NFC.
3. Do expect the Dolphins to return to poor, but also expecting Baltimore to be average with Pittsburgh the class of the AFC.
4. Raiders will actually do better than both Chiefs and Broncos
I wanted to put the Skins in the playoffs and I have us starting 5-2 this year but we finish 4-5 and just miss the playoffs. The 2nd half schedule is going to be brutal. I didnt think the Eagles would be that strong either but their schedule imo says otherwise. The Ravens at 13-3 wont happen imo but when you predict every game there will be some teams that do better on paper than they will during the real season. Maybe the Eagles will be the same way. I wouldnt be shocked if the Raiders finish ahead of both the Chiefs and Broncos. I have them starting off 0-6 but winning 5 of their last 10 games. The Raiders have talent on both sides of the ball if they can get their WRs to step up they could push the 8-8 mark.

A 4-5 finish will mean no Zorn
Looking at the games I would tend to agree with your thoughts, and the second half is going to be brutal.
I believe this plays well into the Redskin’s hands after the VERY disappointing 2-6 run in 2008. The Skins will be reminded all year about the great start last, and how they missed the playoffs, a 5-2 start in 2009 will not have everyone all “giddy and happy” like last year because of last year, I believe this should allow for an extra game or possibly 2 during the 4-5 stretch you guessed. So, 5-4 or 6-3 finish to the season wil have the Redskins make the playoffs.
Otherwise, a new coach “shanahan?” will occur in 2010, because regardless of schedule another 2nd half collapse will not allow Zorn to keep his job, IMO
Agreed. I just hope its not Shanny. I really think hes overrated as a Head Coach.
RIP Sean Taylor (1983-2007)
2 Superbowls and a career winning %
is overrated?!
You must mean overrated as a GM?
"Nobody in the game of football should be called a genius. A genius is somebody like Norman Einstein." -Theismann
And While Zorn will be gone Vinny is our pain forever
The coach will get to coach, no GM with the Vinny
I heard if the Skins dont make the playoffs this year Zorn and Cerrato would get canned.
RIP Sean Taylor (1983-2007)
I don't know where you heard that,
but that would probably mean NO Shanahan. Vinny and Shanny are tight.
None of this matters because MY crystal ball says that a conservative estimate would have us going 10-6. So no worries. : )
"Nobody in the game of football should be called a genius. A genius is somebody like Norman Einstein." -Theismann
Well most people would disagree with me on this. I just feel like he rode the John Elway/Terrell Davis wave to 2 Super Bowls in 97-98 and 98-99. From that point on the Broncos were mismanaged. After the Broncos AFC Championship Game loss to the Steelers in Jan of 2006 you could tell that Shanahan would never get them back to the Super Bowl. Three years later he was canned and I really believe it really set the franchise back. Even though McDaniels was a terrible choice to replace him.
RIP Sean Taylor (1983-2007)
Breaking down the Skins 9-7 record I gave them…..
Wins vs the Rams, Lions, Bucs, Chiefs, Broncos, Raiders, and 3 wins vs the NFC East
Losses vs the Panthers, Falcons, Saints, Chargers, and 3 losses vs the NFC East
I do think we can push around 11 wins though if things break right.
We could actually catch a huge break if the Chargers rest their starters week 17.

As much as I hate to say it
the pats are doing way better than 10-6. They went 11-5 last year and that was without brady. dude is good, even if he is an asshole. Cardinals? they’re in for a major letdown, just watch.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laydODN6xVk
I agree. The Pats should be 11-5 or 12-4. I had them at 10-6 because of my game by game predictions. When its all said and done the Pats will probably be better then 10-6. I hate to say it also though. I hate the Pats more than any other team in the NFL.
I think the Cards will play will a purpose and Warner will tear up the league to try to get Arizona back to the Super Bowl. There schedule is super easy imo. The only way I think the Cards could be in for a letdown is if they trade Boldin.

I hate the Pats more than any other team in the NFL.
I wouldn’t go so far as to put them above the Cowboys, Giants and Eagles, but I feel you.
I think it’s interesting that you never heard from Pats fans until 2002. All you heard from New England was Sawx, Sawx, Sawx. Then they win three Super Bowls and act like they’ve been around all this time.
I found it most ironic that I heard Pats fans mocking the sudden emergence of Cards fans during the playoffs this year… as if the Pats and their fans weren’t the Arizona Cardinals and their fans of pre-2002.
I just hate cheaters. I know 100% the Pats cheated to win those Super Bowls. I cant stand Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and really any Patriot. The cocky attitude they had all those years was like nails on a chalkboard. Then in 2007 they want to run it up on every team they face like the true aholes they are.
I was so stoked when the Giants beat the Pats in SB42. I just wish we could of done it instead. Im not gonna lie I loved when Brady got his knee taken out week 1 also. Hopefully, the Bills can pull a repeat this year.
I love wins vs the NFC East, mainly the Cowboys, more than any other team. I just really hate the Patriots with a passion.
RIP Sean Taylor (1983-2007)
Yeah, when the Patsies ran up the score on Gibbs,
50-something points to whatever single digit we had, I lost what little respect I had for Bellicheatz. He had Brady throwing deep on 4th downs in the 4th quarter! Joe Gibbs just took it like a man and said after the game that he “didn’t have a problem with it.” Gibbs was all class. But in that case, I would have told somebody to play past the whistle and stop that BS.
"Nobody in the game of football should be called a genius. A genius is somebody like Norman Einstein." -Theismann
The first and only time I bet money on a NFL game online was that game. I put 100 bucks on the Skins +17 1/2. The Skins defense was pretty damn good so I had a feeling we could win the game. Throw in 17 1/2 points and im like HELL YES.
I was so livid during that game it wasnt even funny. I was at a friends and I said **** this and left. I went home and watched the rest of our ***kicking.
RIP Sean Taylor (1983-2007)
I know 100% the Pats cheated to win those Super Bowls.
While I wouldn’t say I’m 100% sure, I just can’t see how anyone believes that Belichick didn’t cheat prior to that Jets game in 2007 and therefore during those Super Bowl wins. Prior to 2001 he was a below average coach (.427 or 41-55, to be exact) and then all of a sudden he’s winning double digit games every year? Yeah, that’s not suspect at all!
And it’s not like they’ve been a truly dominant team. Yeah, they won a lot of games, but it’s not like they were winning by huge margins. Cheating would definitely make a difference in their games, especially during those extremely close Super Bowls.
Finally, I think it ridiculous that league practically did nothing after they found him cheating. It seemed like the only thing they did was ask him if he cheated prior to that Jets game, and then believe him when he said “no.”
They lost their 1st Round draft pick,
but that was a slap on the wrist because they still had another 1st round pick from SF. The worst thing was when Goodell destroyed the freakin’ tapes! How shady was THAT!?!?!
"Nobody in the game of football should be called a genius. A genius is somebody like Norman Einstein." -Theismann
I think releasing those tapes (along with the draft pick loss)
would have been a more just discipline and a better deterrent against it happening again.
"Nobody in the game of football should be called a genius. A genius is somebody like Norman Einstein." -Theismann
After seeing some of the tapes on the NFL special on ESPN it just made me sick. Belicheat got off too easy imo.
I do agree losing the 1st round pick will make sure other teams dont try it. Like you said it did suck though punishment wise because the Pats had another pick in the 1st round that year.
RIP Sean Taylor (1983-2007)
I do agree losing the 1st round pick will make sure other teams dont try it.
Please. In the long run of it, losing a first rounder is absolutely nothing. Especially now a days when teams are so evenly matched, a little help from cheating can definitely mean an extra 3 or 4 wins per season, and a good run in the playoffs.
I don’t think losing the first rounder should scare any team off.
I know I would trade a first rounder for 3 Super Bowls wins every day of the week and twice on Sundays. I would even trade EVERY pick from the 2009, 2010, and 2011 draft for 3 Super Bowl titles. Heck, now that I’m thinking about it, you would have to be in the “no draft picks for 10 years” range, before I would even hesitate to answer “HELL YES!” to that trade.
I think losing a 1st round pick actually does hurt your team. I also think if it happens again there will be stiffer penalties then just a 1st round pick and a fine.
So you would want to win Super Bowls by cheating? If the Skins finally win a Super Bowl in my era (im 23 so I dont remember SB26) and I find out they cheated to win it like the Pats did id stop watching the Skins.
If a team cheats to win they dont deserve my support. If I was a Pats fan when I found out they cheated to win those SBs I would of stopped rooting for them. I cant support a team that disrespects the game like that.
…..and if anyone wants to question my Redskins fandom ive been watching since the Norv Turner days and stuck through all the BS afterwards. Im Burgundy and Gold for life (unless they decide they cant win playing football and need to tape the opposing teams signals.)
RIP Sean Taylor (1983-2007)
i think what he was trying to say was
that if he had an option over a first rounder or a few super bowls (no cheating involved) he would obviously take the super bowls.
I’m not saying losing a 1st round pick doesn’t hurt your team, I’m just saying losing a 1st round pick is nothing if you’re going to win 3 Super Bowls.
Note that in my example I’m not making factoring in cheating, mostly because:
a. No one has proven without a doubt that the Pats cheated during their Super Bowl winning seasons, playoffs and Super Bowls
and
There are variously levels of cheating. While the first issue is fairly simple to solve (just conduct an independent and open investigation in to the Pat’s Super Bowl seasons) the second one is harder.
Obviously cheating during the game (like the Pats did) is pretty high level, but then there are the “lesser” cheats, like salary cap cheating (like the Broncos did during their Super Bowl runs) and free agency cheating (like the Skins are accused of by the Titans in the Haynesworth signing).
Are you ready to give up your allegiance if the Skins were found to have tampered with Haynesworth?
Yeah a 1st round pick does mean nothing if you could get 3 Super Bowls for them. At the sametime when they taint your legacy as a dynasty it isnt worth the price.
Actually it was proven that the Patriots cheated in the Super Bowl seasons. All that film that was shown during the ESPN NFL special was proof.
Like I said in my other post if the Skins taped other teams signals and won SBs because they cheated id stop rooting for them. Cheating in a game is just straight up Un-American. Who can have any pride in winning something if they cheated to do it. When the Skins win the Super Bowl it will be great because of all the terrible seasons before it. If I found out after going through those seasons we had to cheat to win id stop watching no doubt.
As for the salary cap and player tampering I really dont care because every team in this league tampers. Every team pays players under the table in different ways. As for player tampering the Titans had every chance to outbid the Skins for Haynesworth. They didnt nuff said. I do think its wrong to do but it isnt like its rigging games. Thats pretty much what the Pats did. They rigged games. Those other teams still had to win the games. The Pats had a huge advantage knowing where the other teams players would be.
RIP Sean Taylor (1983-2007)
No way
How do you for one have the 49ers with 10 wins? You are high they will be once again at the bottom of the west with maybe 5 wins and the Giants with only 7 tell me how you have the 49ers at 10 wins and the Giants at 7 wins. The Bears in the championship game come on the sucked last year and will again even with Cutler he has no one to throw the ball to and even if he did he would still find a way to lose the last three games of the year with a three game lead and miss the playoffs again.

I have faith in Mike Singletary moving this team forward after a solid 7-9 season last year. Singletary was 5-4 last season after taking over for Mike Nolan. The Niners have a pretty good defense imo. I also like Shaun Hill as their QB. If the Niners can build on last season and players like Brandon Jones (signed this offseason) and Josh Morgan can step up they can win 10 games.
The Giants imo are the worst team right now in the NFC East. I just dont like how they stack up vs the Eagles, Cowboys , or Redskins. They probably will win more than 7 games but I dont see them winning anymore than 9. If they do trade for Boldin or Edwards I would probably put them 3rd and drop the Skins to 4th.
As for the Bears they still have a really solid defense, a pretty good QB in Cutler, a great offensive line, and a RB in Forte who is a beast. They have all the pieces to make a run except WR. I thought Forte was the best back in the draft last year and he will show it once again this coming up season. Hes a machine.

Giants as worse team...Don't think so
The Giants may not be able to score points but the Defense is almost as scary as the Redskins.
IMO Dallas is the team that has gone backwards, How many games did TO win for them, and Romo has implosion written all over him, Completely dysfunctional with no defense I’m thinking 3 or 4 wins.
Agree Bears are in good shape and should lead that division.
the giants defense is arguably better than the redskins, they have such great depth at every position which we obvioulsy don’t, everyone says the eagles d won’t be as good this year but i beg to differ, they did lose a lot by releasing brian dawkins but i don’t think it’ll crush them like everyone is saying it will remember the eagles d was better than ours last year
Bears
No way they finish 3rd behind Minn and GB

Any given Sunday...
of course, means that NFL games are unpredictable. But the Rams, Lions, Bucs, Chiefs, Broncos and Raiders are unstable and rebuilding (from the ground up with new coaches in most cases). That is 6 probable wins, but we will probably find a way to blow 1 of those so let’s just say that should be 5 wins.
The Chargers, Falcons, Saints, and Panthers had better than or comparable records to us and are more established than the aforementioned teams. But with the improvements that we have made this offseason (and that’s pre-draft), we should at least be able to win half of those games. So that puts us at 7 wins thus far.
Our division games are always super competitive. Even with a superior team we oftentimes struggle against our division rivals. Therefore, I will predict that we split our 6 division games and bring our grand total 2009 season record to 10-6.*
*Disclaimer: So much could happen between now and January that this prediction means absolutely nothing.

4 quarters
The 2008 Redskins had a difficult time finishing and/or holding the 4th quarter. The NFL season when broken into quarters (4 games each qtr) returned similar results for the 2008 Redskins. The season will come down to how the Team finishes games and finishes the season. The schedule provides an opportunity for excellence with the 1st and 2nd qtr providing the opportunity to win while at the same time building strength for the 2nd half. The collapse last year will be an easy reminder to all the players if at half time the Redskins are 5-3 or 6-2(my guess is 5-3). Performance in season quarters should play out as the game 2nd halves played out during the season. A run of 4-4 is possible, which could improve to 5-3: Any hopes of the Redskins making a strong playoff run requires at least a 5-3 with a chance at 6-2.
(my guess 5-3) for a 10-6 season.
I’ll be watching the 3rd and 4th qtr of the first 8 games, if the Redskins finish off a team then the season will be good, If they hang on to victories or just can’t make it a win then it will be another average season.
Agree with that
The D really got worn down last year late in the game. More so later in the year when the offense could not stay on the field for longer than 4 plays. We also started seeing teams game planning to get to the outside on the skins. I recall the Giants running lots of sweep plays to Ward late in that second game. IMO HB Blades and Taylor were getting the strong side edge exposed. I think I saw Ray Rice get to the outside on the skins one or twice and I know I saw Cedric Benson take a pass 79 yards down the right side early in that game. Daniels should help, but Hall will be over there instead of Springs now. With AH plugging up the middle, the strong side edge will most likely be attacked again this year. Hopefully the O will stay on the field longer this year and we get some LB help in the draft.
I think that's more a factor of the offense, IMO
the offense couldn’t sustain drives, and few D’s in the NFL can hold leads against power RBs and good offenses if they’re on the field all game.
What about the Cow-patties?
Romo is a big-game choke artist. T.O. was a cancer, but he was also a 1000 yds., 10 TDs(+) receiver. Marion Barber is about to meet Albert Haynesworth. Felix Jones is a munchkin (albeit fast munchkin). Roy Williams (WR) can’t run a good route. Miles Austin is about to go to the Jets. Wade Phillips looks lost and Jerry Jones wouldn’t be hired as a GM by any sane owner in the NFL (or CFL for that matter).
They have no 1st round draft picks to trade and all of the impact free agents are taken. IMO, Dallass will be lucky to get to .500 this year.
"Nobody in the game of football should be called a genius. A genius is somebody like Norman Einstein." -Theismann
I think the Boys will get back to the running game and have a 3 headed monster in Barber, Jones, and Choice. Romo will throw less but be a better QB without TO. The defense is still a very solid unit. I think 9-7 seems about right. I do have a huge upset though on their schedule as they lose to the Raiders on Turkey Day. The Boys could finish anywhere from 7-9 to 11-5 imo.

3 headed monster?
That’s why we drafted a player named Albert Haynesworth.
"Nobody in the game of football should be called a genius. A genius is somebody like Norman Einstein." -Theismann
Agreed. Haynesworth is a big help for the Skins run defense and pass rush. Hes the best DT in the league hands down.
At the sametime Haynesworth doesnt play the Cowboys all 16 games only twice. I was talking about the Cowboys season outlook. Not just when we face them.
I think we split vs Dallas though.
RIP Sean Taylor (1983-2007)
Right now (on paper)
it just looks to me like Dallas took a big step back. Roy Williams may play polar opposite from last year without TO smothering the offense, but I doubt it. Sam Hurd, Miles Austin, and Patrick Crayton flash a good play every once in a while, but they’re not consistent enough. Jones also lost a few key pieces in the secondary and now has some unproven guys back there. BUT, they do have a big, strong offensive line and 3 good RBs.
I believe that this a good year for us to sweep Dallas.
"Nobody in the game of football should be called a genius. A genius is somebody like Norman Einstein." -Theismann
Yeah the Cowboys can finish 7-9 and all hell will break loose or they can finish as high as 11-5 imo and maybe have a shot at the division. I do agree they have had some losses but they still got enough talent to compete. If the running game isnt top 10 this year the Cowboys are going to be terrible and Romo will be on the hot seat throwing alot of INTs.
I hope we can sweep them this year but its so hard to win in Dallas. Zorn is 1-0 though at Dallas so maybe he can go on a little winning streak there.

Cowboys get a win in Washington already
A man who grabbed a Dallas Cowboys flag from a car in downtown Washington was punched in the face yesterday, startling passersby in an area that is home to lawyers, lobbyists and expensive shops and restaurants.
It occurred about 6 p.m. in the 1700 block of L Street NW, at a site just west of Connecticut Avenue, where few expect fisticuffs. Commuters were hurrying toward the Farragut North Metro station, and the car was stopped in traffic, police and witnesses said.
“He was out cold for a good five minutes or so,” the witness said.
Police said a man was taken from the scene for treatment of a bruised forehead.
