LDE-No problem

Old is in...

Star-divide

The Redskins will be set at the LDE position brining in Wynn and according to David Elfin at the Washington Times Daniels will be signing with the Redskins too.

Renaldo Wynn:

Height: 6-3   Weight: 296   Age: 34

Born: 9/3/1974 Chicago , IL

College: Notre Dame

Experience: 13th season

Phillip Daniels

Height: 6-4   Weight: 276   Age: 36

Born: 3/4/1973 Donalsonville , GA

College: Georgia

Experience: 13th season

26 years of experience will anchor the LDE, teams which thought they could run away from Albert will now have to reconsider as both Daniels and Wynn are known for their ability to stop the run.  Hopefully the younger cast member will play on passing downs to provide left side pressure to the QB.  It's a good and solid addition which makes LB and OL as the dominate areas for the 5 person draft.

yuck

I’m okay rolling with them if we take an LT or LB in the draft, but would rather have an LDE who will take advantage of the holes that AH will create. I’d love to draft Orakpo. Without a stronger LDE, I fear that AH will get beat-up too much and start missing games.

32 teams

The NFL is made up of 32 teams and every team has strengths and weaknesses, having to older players in Wynn and Daniels set to start at LDE is better than 50% of the other teams LDE. While it would be nice to draft a strong rookie I’m comfortable with this combination for a top tier Defensive line.

Unfortunately..

Orakpo will probably not be there at #13. we all know this. if he is there, we best take him. However we will probably use him as a de/olb hybrid, which is fine and will most likely reap greater benefits. As it is now though, Wynn/Daniels are a good combination if they can teach the younger guys we have, how to excell in this league. i like jackson, buzbee and wilson. they are all young and want to succeed. Vetrans knowledge and guidance (+ good coaching) are absolute musts for these guys to be able to follow through on their goals. If Orakpo is not there @ 13, and there is a STARTING quality OT(even if he doesnt start), we take him and dont blink twice. (If Andre Smith were available, i say pick him; on a side note the nicknames that the dirtbags will come up for him are probably going to be “brown noisers”…. i like ‘sugar lumps’ for his swinging fun bags) . If all STARTING quality OT’s are gone, then we move to linebacker. And i hope to god we wont draft maualuga. he is fun to watch, but he over pursues and plays with reckless abandon which will not transfer well to the nfl. his ability to consistently rush the passer is in question also. i like maybin, sintim (a 2nd rounder at best , which if we draft OT in the 1st rnd, i completely condone a trade w/ picks only [i’d give up 2nd and 4th next year to get sintim now] to get this guy; hard worker, local kid and smart) or cushing more than maualuga. he is an interior lb anyways, and i’d like to mold blades into london fletcher jr.

Wow-Very thoughtful!

Great Fan perspective on the Draft, I hope the Redskins follow the same logic. I also hope Andre Smith drops to 13, although similar to Orakpo it won’t happen but if it does the Redskins will have the starting RT and say good bye to Heyer because Jansen will either be a starter or backup but he’ll be on the team. And as reported Heyer is a RT,and no more.

With Orakpo and Smith off the table, then the best option is a trade back if it can be an option…

i dont think they'll get rid of heyer.

Why would they? heyers got arms long as hell and he is still young and cheap. Keep him, Train him up and then Smith plays LT and were set with quality depth and eventual starters at the OT positions. I believe Jansen will be our starter this year (the only way to look at this is…..it is what it is. i have nothing but faith and respect for buges; his opinion and actions MUST be respected). And Hopefully Jansen does have a “pro bowl year” and he shuts all his critics’ mouths. This is obviusly yet to be seen. But Even if we draft OT it would be stupid to do away with heyer.

Tend to agree

I agree that Jansen has a great chance of being the starter, he was coming off an ankle injury in 2008 which did not allow him to prepare in the off-season the way he wanted and to perform up to his standards. I believe he has a “chip on his shoulder” to take the starting position and excel.

As for Heyer, I had all the hopes in the world for him as he is prototype Bugles player I was concerned in a Vinny interview this week he said:

Cerrato: "Stephon is playing right tackle. That’s it. He is a right tackle. He is playing right tackle right now. I said, ‘hey, Stephon. Take that job. Go get that job.’

Maybe it was just talk, but sometimes a player who can’t take a starting job and CAN ONLY play the one position becomes expendable, hopefully he was speaking for Heyer to Focus on taking the RT job.

Heyer isn't going anywhere,

for all of the reasons you mentioned and he’s a good pass blocker (which happens to be Jansen’s weak area now). His run blocking needs improvement, but with all of the injuries we have had on OL for the last 3 years (along with his experience playing some LT), cutting Heyer would be asinine.

If we don’t draft an OT, Heyer will probably be the starter at the beginning of the season just like he was last year. Buges loves (and is fiercely loyal) to his old veterans because they can read the defenses and fully understand the offensive line schemes. Unfortunately, because of all of the injuries and general wear & tear, Jansen just doesn’t have the same lateral movement he used to (although he can run block with the best of them). In a way, this could be the best thing for Jansen because it might extend his career. And when the inevitable injury happens, he’ll be able to step in and show his mettle.

If we do draft an OT, look for both Heyer and Jansen to probably go to the bench. Zorn has already said that whoever is drafted at #13 will be expected start right away. You just don’t draft that high (or pay that much) for a guy to ride the pine for a year.

Not many picks but one impact this year

Last year with 10 picks, there was not that expectation of an impact player, hope for Thomas and Kelly but really they we second round picks who have as much chance making an impact as a rookie seventh round pick (which the Redskins did have). As you stated, a player picked at 13 is expected to contribute on Day 1. If the draft follows the SB Nation Mock, then the Redskins will get an impact LB

I didn't know

That Zorny is really quite that sane. I am ashamed to know that he is a firm believer in letting your top pick play. You have to do to truly comprehend, and putting 6 million dollars on the bench for the entire year, then expecting said 6 million dollars to pay high dividends on the first deposit is folly-no…its effin retarded. Though that would prove an extremely interesting scenario should the Skins’ take the best available player overall. I think it will be a DE, OT, OLB, or WR-in that order. DE and OLB would cause much of a fuss, but the other two…
