Reynaldo Wynn is Back

Wynn agrees to terms

Veteran defensive lineman Renaldo Wynn has agreed to terms on a one-year deal according to a league source. The Redskins have been interested in him for a while, and Wynn was a team leader prior to being cut before the 2007 season. Since then he's played with the Saints and the Giants.

He provides a wealth of wisdom to a group of defensive ends that is pretty young overall, and he might end up reunited with his good friend, DE Phillip Daniels, as the Redskins hope to re-sign him to a cap friendly deal as well.

good.

well, the defensive line back together. daniels needs to sign. withe the addition of haynesworth, we CAN get on a run this year. a nice blend of youth and age, i believe as long as we draft offensive line DEPTH and a linebacker who can start we could be dangerous. its up to j.c.

only 176 days away ladies and gentlemen." how sweet it is…"

Im not trapped in here with you, youre trapped in here with me.

I don't see how any of these guys

solve our defensive line problems

That's what Haynesworth is for...

Essentially, Haynesworth is supposed to be able to collapse the pocket and draw double, possibly triple teams. If this happens, while most of the opposing offensive linemen are concerned with Haynesworth, other players can sneak through and create sacks, or at least pressure if he doesn’t do so himself. If/when this happens the secondary will be able to create more interceptions because of the quarterback being rushed and throwing errant passes. Also, another one of our defensive line weaknesses last year was running backs being able to run to the outsides of our lines against our small defensive ends. With Daniels and Wynn on the end, possibly even Haynesworth in some situations, teams shouldn’t be able to run on the outside so easily. At least this is what everyone says is supposed to happen, and I most certainly hope it does.

I agree with hibachi

Yeah team leaders are nice but was Wynn really ever any good when he was here the first time? Haynesworth should help but we still have no certified pass rusher

I'm worried about the beer supply. After this case, and the other case, there's only one case left- Barney Gumble

Agreed

Although i like Daniels more than Wynn because of the condition he keeps himself in.

Agree

bigrm18, has it figured out, at least the same as what Danny and Vinny are thinking. Which oddly enough makes sense.
Wynn did play in all 16 games last year, he did record 2 sacks. The Redskins need to continue to work on getting Daniels into camp then as far as 2009 is concerned the Defensive line is set.
Carter will be the full time presence for significant pass rush, Wynn and Daniles will concentrate on stopping the run. Wilson and Jackson will be the third specialist. And never mentioned is Buzzbee…what is he capable of doing?
The Defensive line is basically set…is it as strong as what the Giants appear to have on paper, No. Is it significantly improved over last year, Yes.

I cannot bring myself to agree that we are set to bring strong QB pressure

Who are we going to send in on the blitz? Marcus Washington was getting 5 sacks per year between 2004 and 2007, with 7.5 in 2005 alone. Springs had 6 sacks in 2004. Seems like to me that 2004 and 2005 were the last years we had decent QB pressure and this was caused by sending the LBs and D-backs to assist. I don’t see London or Rocky putting on any pressure, maybe Landry will step up. Horton was sent in a lot last year and always seemed to get picked up…he looked a little slow to me too. Ah…maybe AH will command two blockers and let others come free. But I’m having trouble seeing any of our current lbs or dbs being quick enough to send in. Maybe Hall can get there fast, but I see McNabb being able to shed him due to his smaller size. I think we need someone to bring the QB heat in the draft either at DE or LB. AH will create some holes, but who will be coming through them is the question?

Horton

Remember how well Landry did blitzing with Sean Taylor back there? Landry admitted he was not healthy the majority of this past year, which means we had to keep help back. Now that he is a 100%, I expect him to cover a lot more room back there which will allow Horton more free runs at the QB. I hate speaking with so many “ifs”….our team seems to have a lot of them.

IF is a part of the start of every Redskin year

The Redskins try to reload each year to make a run for the playoffs and Superbowl. Which in my mind is better than going 0-16, 3-13 etc, Lions are re building and will not be running to the playoffs, Raiders are trying to pull a team together and will not be making a run to the playoffs etc.
With the reload and hope comes a lot of IF
2008: could have turned out different if some “IF” occured
2009: Does have a lot of IF to make an 8-8 team a 12-4 or better team for a good run at the Title.
IF….is Redskin World

I also remember...

lots of 15 yard penalties on third and long too. Hopefully Landry comes back strong this year. I still think Horton is a step too slow.

We just have to pray

that someone like Orakpo falls to us in the first round. rookie DE/OLBs don’t normally flourish in their first years, but he’ll still be better than some of the guys we have right now…

Why?

Yes, he would be a good pickup at #13 but why? This is the same thinking which brought Taylor here in 2008.
The players the Redskins have cannot get the job done?
But in hindsight the players which were on the roster, while not providing significant sacks did STOP the run and did mostly control the line of scrimmage, without Taylor due to his injuries all year.
The Defensive line was improved with Haynesworth signing…NEXT!
The Defensive backs are solid and young
Defensive LBs need some attention, or one of the pickups need to excel in this Scheme…As established it’s a top-10 defense ready to make a run…IF

by dr WNC on Mar 17, 2009 2:42 PM EDT up reply actions

who do you want at #13 instead?

Seems like we need pressure from someone beside Carter and Haynesworth. Either from a DE or LB, but I do not see that on the roster now. We can stop the run with the current folks, but on passing downs they will double AH and could leave the RB in to chip Carter or whoever comes free. Last year AH helped send Vanden Bosch to the Pro Bowl and I’m hoping that it is Carter this year. Stopping the run is okay, but we need QB pressure to get more TOs and shorter fields for our low scoring offense. I’d love to see Orakpo or E Brown there at 13…I’d also be okay with an OT (not andre smith – too risky) or even Maualuga at outside lb for a few years before taking over for fletcher.

#13-Best available player in a position of need.

1. Orakpo, if he drops to 13 the Redskins take hime
2. OT-one of the top 3 ranked players drop , take them
3. Solid LB one of top 3 take them
4. Trade for more picks.

13 is all about what teams 1 to 12 do, so yes I agree with picking the best player, but my poorly worded point is that if the Redskins go OT at 13 the defense is doomed…The Redskins have needs but they are solid with the players and expected players on the roster.
I thought the Taylor move last year was right with Daniels and Buzzbee going down, but in hindsight and due to injury the players on the Redskins performed well enough with a little help from Taylor to achieve a #4 ranking. Wouldn’t it be great to have those picks back.
The Redskins are solid and “IF” things occur then they should be able to make a run, it’s not about hoping or “to pray” something happens and if it doesn’t then all is loss. The Redskins have options, and should get a very good player at #13 it may be an OT, LB or DE but whatever it is it adds to a solid team…call me homer
