Skins Make Some Moves to Fill 2 Problem areas
Thanks to dr Wnc for the comment regarding the Skins new signings. Redskins.com just released a press release announcing the addition of kicker, Dave Rayner, and RB/Kick-returner, Dominique Dorsey. Rayner does not have impressive stats, in fact, they are god awful, but I guess everything is worth a shot. He was originally drafted by the Colts in the 6th round, so it's reassuring to see that the Skins aren't the only team to draft bust kickers early.

As for Dominique Dorsey, the kid looks to have some natural abilities. A couple of facts are that he: is 5'7" (165 lbs), graduated from UNLV, and was a CFL All-Star. His full profile/stats are available here. Check out this clip of Dorsey doing his best Ed Reed impersonation.
It is not encouraging to see that we're looking at a kicker that has been on 5 teams in 4 years. Man, if we had just kept David Akers, we could have avoided a decade of these shenanigans. Rayner's career kicking stats above 40 yards are down-right dreadful (14-24). Would you want this guy attempting a game-winning field goal?
Dorsey, on the other hand, looks promising. It is obvious the Skins have problems accumulating long rushes, especially for touchdowns, so Dominque I expect will compete for Rock's positions of 3rd back and kick-off returner.

The saying goes, If you can beat'em, then Join'em
Dorsey was with the 2005 draft class, who else was in the 2005 draft class?
Breakdowns from http://fftoday.com/articles/idptony/05draft_rbs_v2.htm Because it was quickest and easiest to find….
Darren Sproles (Kansas State – 4SR) 5’7" 180 4.40
Honors: Big XII 2nd Team All-Conference
Strengths: One of the most productive multi-dimension talents in football the last four years. Great speed, remarkable balance, and amazingly elusive. Good receiver and outstanding return man.
Weaknesses: Vastly undersized. Disappointing season for team and loss of offensive talent led to a decrease in productivity. Lack of blocking skills limits his upside as a third down back.
Dominique Dorsey (UNLV – 4SR) 5’7" 170 4.50
Honors: Mountain West 1st Team All-Conference
Strengths: Exploded as feature back in 2004 to lead conference in rushing. Quick and explosive, hides behind blockers, then darts upfield. Home run hitter. Adds value as tremendous kick returner.
Weaknesses: Size and durability. Carried the whole load for the first time this year and broke down by the end.
And when FFT ranked the running backs, the Redskins draft pick fell in the middle of the two.
Nehemiah Broughton (The Citadel – 4SR) 6’0" 245 4.55

Dorsey
It’s crazy to give a back as small as Dorsey and Sproles the “whole load.” The guy sounds surprised he broke down by the end. I would love to see a back like this in the Skins offense get 5-10 touches a game.

He played under John Robinson
and believe me, Robinson wasn’t looking to start him at Running Back….in fact Nique only signed with UNLV because other schools wanted him at CB, but Nique wanted to play RB….Robinson said he’d give him a shot.
Personally, I think Robinson wanted him to eventually switch….but when injuries forced him into more carries on game he rushed for over 100 yards….Robinson still played him sparingly, but by the middle of his Jr. year, JRob had no choice because Nique was too good to keep out….
Nique’s still our last 1,000 yard rusher we’ve had…..but watch out for our guy coming out this year, Frank Summer…Frank’s a half-samoan, 250 lb RB that will be a FB in the NFL…..he would’ve easily been a 1,000 yd back but didn’t get the carries in our spread offense…would get 25 carries one game and 8 the next….but he’s a load….he had a play against ASU that he carried 5-6 players on his back and got 5 additional yards….
..but I digress, I’m really looking forward to seeing Nique with the Redskins, he’s one of my favorite players all-time at UNLV….Also, I went to Bonanza HS in Vegas, and our most famous alum is Gerald Riggs Sr.; my brother graduated a few years after him and worshipped him….we’ve all been Skin fans since (Bonanza HS also has Adam Seward, Carolina Panthers and Jamal Willis, ex-49er as Alum).
