Haynesworth about to be a Redskin
Lance Zierlein, a radio host in Houston, has blogged that the Skins are about to sign Haynesworth for a STAGGERING $100 million averaging $15 mil a year. Lord help us all if this is true. Lance has an inside contact with the NFL and supposedly called the Scott Pioli to KC deal before the major guys got wind. OH man.
The Titans can still one-up the deal, but let's be real. Since when does Dan Snyder not win these wallet battles?

I know many will disagree,
but this is a signing I really DO agree with.

IIRC, we offered Jerametrius Butler a contract when he was a RFA with the Rams, but they matched it. Butler later signed w/ the ’Skins as an UFA, but was cut.

Well...
I just texted my friend who produced the Redskins broadcast the last couple years, and knows the team inside out, his reply:

Big Daddy
was also defensive MVP for the ’Skins, though…

Danny Snyder just wants somebody who can stomp the Cowboys:

I'm guessing
this contract is HEAVILY backloaded (well…. EVERY Redskins contract is backloaded, but this one even moreso) in the anticipation (hope) of an uncapped year.

Lead story
at ESPN’s NFL rumors site. (It’s Insider only, so I have no idea what they say. If anything.)

My friend that has Insider...
said Insider points to the same article as HogsHaven does. Nothing more.

Figured as much.
Just another reason to hate ESPN…

I know we all hate Peter King,
(I don’t, actually) but here’s what he wrote yesterday in his MMQB column:
There’s no long line waiting to pry Albert Haynesworth from the Titans.
In fact, Washington might be the logical landing spot. Hmmmm. I wonder why Redskins owner Dan Snyder was having dinner with the agent for Haynesworth, Chad Speck, at Morton’s here Saturday night. I’m sure they were just talking about how it was colder here than at the Arctic Circle. But I kept asking all weekend: "Who wants Haynesworth — or, more appropriately, who’s going to pony up for him?‘’ And I got the old "it only takes one’’ answer a few times. But one coach told me the smartest thing, and this was a coach who has some interest in getting Haynesworth at the right price, which is about half of what Haynesworth is hoping to get. "Everybody I’ve asked this weekend says, ’We’re out of that,’ or ‘I don’t think you’ll see us involved in Haynesworth.’ ’’
Sad, really, because he’s a great football player, an impactful player who can change a game from the interior defensive line spot. The downer stuff about Haynesworth:
• He’s never played a full season. He’s started three, 11, 10, 14, 10, 12 and 14 in his seven seasons.
• He’s never played more than 65 percent of the Titans’ defensive snaps in a season. You might say a Nnamdi Asomugha is tremendously overpaid at $15-million a year (much more on him later in the column), but Asomugha or a quarterback is going to play 95 percent of his unit’s plays in the course of a year, barring injury. Even if healthy, Haynesworth’s going to come off the field a third of the time, minimum. So do you want to pay quarterback money to a player who never touches the ball and plays two-thirds of the snaps a franchise quarterback plays? It makes no sense.
• He’s got a reputation for coasting on some plays.
• He’ll be 28 on opening day. You want to pay a 335-pound guy who’s never started more than 14 games and is entering his eighth year $13 million or $15 million a year? Good luck.
In the end, my guess is Snyder will pay up and grab him. He’s the kind of trophy player Snyder would love to have, and the kind of player, if healthy, who will really help the Redskins close the gap on the Giants in the NFC East.
Emphasis added — that’s really the only part that gives me pause.
King seems to think that we might really be Painsworth’s only suitor, but he seems to be of the opinion that if he isn’t worth that kind of money, he’s VERY close.

However, all this having been said,
if he DOES come to DC and underperform, I REALLY hope somebody takes Snyder by the scruff of the neck and rubs his nose in it.

Indeed.
Snyder may be a slow learner, but he is learning.

Bloggers at ESPN think that the Bucs are also in the running for Haynesworth.

You should probably add a question mark to the headline.
I almost crapped my pants until I read that the “source” is a radio host in Houston.

If Haynesworth
is a Redskin and Taylor returns, I expect the team to start shifting to a 3-4 plays, especially on third downs.
This could signal a major shift in the defensive philosophy for the Redskins.

Does
Greg Blache have any experience running a 3-4?

Not that I know of
save for the Eagles game, Blache used three down linemen and popped Taylor up using him to feint the rush while hawking on Westbrook. It certainly wasn’t a traditional 3-4, and it was only one game, but in that game the Skins stomped down on Philly nicely. At least on D.
It’s also the reason I think the two combined will push Blache into more 3-4 situations.

Haynesworth IS
large enough to be an effective 3-4 nose tackle…

just saying...
Carter, Griffin, Taylor, Haynesworth? What a front 4!
Griffin was getting doubled last season. If he’s free to stop the run, Haynesworth — who many said was the most dominant player in the league last season, period — will be absolutely dangerous.
That front four will absolutely consume an entire front 6… giving our LB’s a much better chance. I think we draft a LB now along with a whole host of OL.
I say get Haynesworth as long as we can afford him — he is possibly the most dangerous DL in the league. He is worth the risk — this is not an over-the-hill guy. He’s 27 and is an absolute monster.

This is exactly my point.
Albert Haynesworth, assuming he continues at his current level, instantly makes everyone else on our defense that much better — gives us a credible pass rush which helps the secondary and the ends, a guy that must necessarily be double-teamed, helps the other tackle, etc.
Plus, as previously noted, he likes to stomp on the Cowboys.

Does Dan ever learn?
This guy is seriously a donkey!!! One person isn’t going to make or break a team (perhaps break the bank)!!! There has to be CHEMISTRY (see cowboys and jerry jones). Maybe fat albert will fare well, perhaps he won’t, he will still be an overpaid ass regardless of where he winds up.
