I was leaning towards Clausen....

Depends on the new coach. Clausen strikes me as a guy who could do well in Shanny’s system, while keeping Campbell and giving him protection could possibly work under Cowher, (if he learns to / has time to make good reads, he’s really not that different then Rothlisberger, really?) which as you pointed out, would give the ‘skins an opportunity to use draft picks for more o-line help and possibly Arelius Benn to be a helluva dominant receiver. Is it really that good that the Skins same the share doc as Bradford? If he’s really the best QB available, that’s one thing, but is he so much better than Clausen that you take the risk of an injury history over Clausen? Asking for trouble… Clausen has also played in a pro style system, and under the intense media and fan pressure that is Notre Dame.

Free Agency will have a huge role in this decision.

It does not look like the FO is going to offer JC a contract extension. They will likely decide to let him become a restricted FA. If they do so, and another team signs him, we at least have the right to match that offer. If we decide not to match the offer, he is gone, and we are left with a probable 2nd rd pick. Then comes decision time. Do we get a proven vet? Do we draft a 1st round QB? Do we get a linemen early, and get a QB like Pike, LeFevor, McCoy or Keenum later? Can we rely on Brennan to be our starter?

My vote would be to take what we can get for Cambell, get a QB in Rd 1(ie. Bradford, Clausen, Mallett), draft 2 linemen in the 2nd(one with our pick, and the other with the one we get for JC), and add at least 1 veteran OL in FA.

I know, I’ll get torn apart by LJP and some others, but this is a business. I tend to read into what people do, not what they say, and I have not seen the front office “do” anything to suggest they will keep Campbell. If they were to do so, I would think they would have extended him by now. People can argue with what they want to happen, but us as fans have no control over this. I am simply reading the writing on the wall.

Prescient...

I’m afraid you are totally correct. I’m throwing my hands up in the matter and hoping for the best. What that will be, time will tell.

Someone around here posted that Shanahan was likely the new HC and that he is in Sam Bradford’s camp. That’s my best guess at this time.

Based on what? No of us have any idea what Bruce Allen thinks of JC.

Can we rely on Brennan to be our starter?

NO

depends on who gets hired when the season is over

1) Jim Zorn is dead man walking

2) The next coach is already in place (most likely Shanahan) we think because that’s how Danny works,

3) Who gets retained out of the organization – by that I mean, does Shanahan completely clean house with the coaching staff ( I would assume so, but you never know), does Allen replace the scouting department, if so, who goes and stays?

4) Allen has already performed some analysis on the team presumambly, who is being kept and who is on the block remains to be seen.

5) Does the new coach craft a system to match the talent or is it a baby with the bathwater scenario?

Until those shoes drop, there is no way to know who our next QB will be. It could be JC (who should be tendered at least), Colt Brennan, a new FA pickup (Sage Rosenfels perhaps?) or some kid drafted out of school and who that may be and where they get picked up is STILL tied to the new staff and how they evaluate players at that position and what system they hope to install here.

I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused....

A veritable treasure trove of worn out cliche's there, me bucco...
dead man walking
completely clean house
and who is on the block
a baby with the bathwater scenario?

somebody stop me

before I mix another metaphor!…. metamorphically speaking…

besides… all my new cliche’s were at the cleaners and won’t be available until after the new year, which has tremendous upside!

All signs point to Mike Shanahan building his staff on and off the field in Washington. He’s working on getting a staff together, and now I hear he will bring in the Goodman family, who were with him in Denver to assist in the personnel department. Washington will become Denver east.

It's too early

But right now just about every mock has us taking Bradford.

by VA_Skin on Dec 31, 2009 1:02 PM EST reply actions

that would be terrible… he had a bomb as line in college and still managed to get hurt…twice…we need a LT

by back_to_the_future on Dec 31, 2009 4:14 PM EST reply actions

It takes time to develop a tackle too.

Just to say we need a tackle and JC will become good would not be true. If we are going to re-build, we need to also do so at the most important position on the football field; QB. Why not go for the 1st rd QB, 2nd rd OT, 2nd rd RB(assuming we get another 2nd for Campbell), a second rd G/T(assuming we get another pick via trade or compensation for Rodgers)and later rd C. Next year we can draft a 1st rd lineman. In two years we would have built a new offensive identity from the ground up.

by Tiller56 on Dec 31, 2009 4:24 PM EST up reply actions

I understand that

but what i’m trying to say is don’t expect that just because we draft a 1st round OT that our line will take a jump to the next level. Whom ever the QB is next year will have a tough time.

by Tiller56 on Jan 1, 2010 11:52 AM EST up reply actions

Who would have a tougher time JC 17 or a rookie qb ?? This is a no brainer ..

Put any rookie Qb behind our line if it only slightly improves and they will be Mark Sanchez part 2.

by LETJASONPASS on Jan 1, 2010 12:28 PM EST up reply actions

You cant get much worse than what we were this season.

If that is the case, I’ll start over from scratch and take my chances with the rookie. I’d rather loose football games with rookie mistakes, than mistakes made by a 5 year vet.

by Tiller56 on Jan 1, 2010 5:33 PM EST up reply actions

No one is attacking JC's toughness.

I’ll agree 100% that he has taken a beating time and time again, and continues to pull himself off the turf and play. I’m looking more at descision making and leadership, or a lack there of.

by Tiller56 on Jan 2, 2010 8:03 AM EST up reply actions

keep jc

the mans proven himself overs thr yrs with poor olines/ coaching & others players contributing to many of his game decisions.

Next years QB

Difficult to say for sure at this point. Without the combines and the physicals and even knowing who the next coach will be. My bet is it will be Shanahan and QB will be Bradford. Any new coach taking over a beaten down, defeated team will want his own guy, his own stamp on the franchise. Shanahan or any offensive minded coach will want to groom and mold a young QB with potential. There will be no pressure on whoever the coach is to win right away. Even Snyder knows by now how depleted his team is, and finally he takes a seat in the rear of the plane instead of co-pilot. The fans certainly don’t expect much, heck; 8 wins sounds pretty good to me right now. With a top 5 pick, any new coach and gm will want their imprint on the team right away. Question now is; Clausen or Bradford or some other QB that emerges at the combines? It is a great time to be a Redskin fan. I can’t wait for the combines and analysis to begin. I believe the skins success in this new decade revolves around this pick.

I am still holding hope....

we do whatever is necesary to strengthen the OL, DB, and RB postitions this year. If there is no new CBA…..let’s get rid of the big salary guys when it won’t hurt…..rebuild the OL…..get youth at the RB position…..and find a FS that can put Landry back at SS if we are intent on keeping him. Then go after our QB in 11’ (Locker)! Trading down would be a good option, bc we would still have a 1st rounder…..and being that we will be in the top 5……we could get pretty good value for that pick…..allowing us to do what I mentioned above!

IT

SHOULD BE CAMPBELL -

clausen = under the same system as brady quinn… we all saw how he turned out – and i’d beg to say that cleveland’s oline was better than washingtons o line this year.
Clausen=not the answer

bradford = oklahoma’s oline is one of the best in the country- and bradford couldn’t survive… and he doesn’t play under center that much either, and i don’t think he has a legit “deep ball”
bradford=not the answer

Skins need to add a LT – RG – RT – + – Home Run Hitting HB
