Open Letter to Daniel Snyder

Dear Dan,

As the owner of the team, what is it you want? Is it to be seen in the owner's box feeding your ego or do you want a winning team? If it's the former then I'm begging you; sell the team and take your unquenchable thirst for attention elsewhere. Spread yourself around a little. I hear football is becoming a big thing north of the Arctic Circle in Finland. If it's the latter; open your mind to this suggestion:

The problem with this team isn't coaching. It isn't the players. It isn't the media. It wasn't even Vinny Cerrato. The problem is the culture that you have created. It sits in your chair and you feed it. It has poisoned the team and it's poisoning the fans. Only you can fix it. And the solution is simple. It can be done in one of two ways. The easiest and most palatable for the fans; sell the team and move on. But if your ego won't allow that then solve the problem this way....are you ready? Here's the solution: Realize that YOU personally cannot fix the team at the level it needs to be fixed. You are not equipped. You are simply a fan who had enough money to buy the team. That act did not endow you with the football knowledge necessary to field a successful team. Your background did not provide you with the expertise to be a success AT THAT LEVEL. Obviously, you are a successful businessman and that put you in a position to purchase the team. But below the level of OWNER you have no expertise in the football business! The smart owners, the ones interested in football dynasties, they surround themselves with football experts. EXPERTS, not sycophants there for the sole purpose of stroking your ego. Then, they stand back and let the experts do their work. The by-product is success on the field.

In closing, allow me to add that time honored phrase as further advice; Patience is a virtue. Surround yourself with FOOTBALL expertise and give them time to produce results. It's going to take some time to clean up the mess your meddling has created. While your experts are working at the football end of the business, you can go back to being an owner and all that that implies. Be the team's biggest fan from your luxury box. Support your people. Run the business end of the team. Foster loyalty, don't just demand it. The rest will fall into place. Try it. I dare you.

Regards,

Ed D.
