Nothing Like Total Embarassment on National TV
Thanks guys, you really know how to perform in the spotlight. Just like every other national broadcast of our team this year, when the lights are on, you guys scuttle for the shadows like cockroaches. It makes me embarassed to be a fan to watch you get abused like that. I know that there must be a few on the sidelines who felt like complete fakes for earning a game check based on their performance tonight. Congrats to the Giants for going out and executing their game plan so effectively.
A couple of small notes and I will return to licking my wounds of fandom like many of you.....
It's obvious that the D knew when Eli was going to audible, but I'm guessing their execution of the two deep zone needs some work since Eli had no difficulty in finding guys wide open. Consider that something to put on your "to do" list Mr. Blache. If they had burned ya three times with the lack of execution of that defense, why not go ahead and rush the guy? after all, he's picking apart your zone as is.
Not gonna cry about the officiating much, but how many times are the Gints linemen going to be able to tee off on our QB after he released the ball? I counted at least three outright tackles that took place a step and a half after the ball was out. No flags. The intentional grounding call was laughable since the G'Man linebacker knocked the RB off his feet as Jason was releasing the ball. Then there was the Jacobs/Hall debacle. I love that Albert came to the defense of his teammates, in no way can I understand how Haynesworth is the only guy who gets a flag. I'm not saying that Albert shouldn't have been flagged, but for crying out loud, what were the refs watching? But that's just quibbling, the refs did NOT lose this game for us.
saw nice efforts tonight by Davis and Fletcher and even Ganther, Jason did the best he could for the most part, but that pick six was certainly painful.
I'm guessing that after tonights performance, Mr. Allen has seen that he should have a free hand to makeover the team as he sees fit. If those guys couldn't play any harder for their jobs than they did tonight, then I have no issues with whomever gets asked to turn his playbook into the turk. Do what needs doing Mr. Allen.

All the discussions and all the posts, with as many opinions as assholes: Bottom line--
Mr. Allen should have a free hand to makeover the team as he sees fit. Blow it up, Change everything or Change just what needs changing because:

The Chalk board is empty, time to start building a team.
Agreed.
Quick, someone hold something shiny in front of Snyder’s face and just let him sign the checks.

I'd settle for someone
dangling AH’s nutsack in front of him every time he gets any kind of notion whatsoever about going to the FA market.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Hmmm....
yeah, maybe we could get Albert to teabag Snyder everytime he tries to sign someone on free agency.
The grass is always greener?

WOW...........................
Landry has turned into as much a liability as our O-line has. He literally looks like the second coming of Adam Archuletta.
When you have as good an offensive line as the Giants do, you better have good cover backs. With Landry, stone hands and Orakpo covering at linebacker, this team was EXPOSED to say the least. If I’m the Cowboys, I’m using the exact same game plan the Giants did.
The entire O-lines of Alabama, Texas and Florida are better than the Skins line is if they were in the NFL TODAY, hands down.
Thanks Vinny, for finding a way to sign high priced free agents without any depth at many many positions. Now that your on the street maybe we can sign you up to fill a position on the roster. That’s the way you filled in roster depth isn’t it?,….. by finding guys who once played college ball and weren’t in the NFL anymore……..you F****NG MOROON!
or finding guys who didn't make an NFL team
did I mention that Vinny Ceratto is a F****NG MOROON!
Landry's brain
must be made of wood….how many f***ing times can he not wrap up a f***ing player! He is not the second coming of Sean Taylor!
He's the Second Coming of Alvin Walton
A bad tackling headhunter who can’t cover. I can see possibly keeping him as a SS (they have enough other problems to deal with) but I wouldn’t cry to see him go, either.
and what was up
with that cannonball tackle he missed and then went flying out of bounds???? it’s as if he just lowers his head, runs forward for 5 yards, and hopes he makes contact. Sad thing was Landy made contact with his shoulder on the Giant’s WR, but he was the one that went flying off out of bounds…reckless…
which game?
cause i think its happened every one this season. I cant stand that he goes for the big hit every single time. when will he get it?
It IS
a nice color.

playing for your job
Over and over again the announcers kept mentioning in the pre game that the Redskins (coaches and players) were playing for their jobs. There is no way to avoid seeing what was displayed: complete and utter incompetence. While not every coach and player is incompetent, as a unit they are totally incompetent. And that definitely includes our highly touted defense. Ultimately that responsibility is on the head coach and after seeing that debacle I have no interest in retaining Zorn. As a HC you set the tone and motivate the players. You’re also in responsible for ensuring a good game plan.
As you stated, Eli picked them apart at will. What you didn’t mention is that they also rammed the ball down our throat in the running game.
I totally agree with your post and dr WNCs reply. I’m totally disgusted. This is almost a flashback for me to high school were I changed schools between my sophmore and junior year. I played basketball (I wasn’t all that good – I just substituted in when someone needed a rest) and went from a school that was 2nd in state 2 years in a row to a team that couldn’t even muster a .500 record. And it was all due to the inept coaching, not the players. Everything the coach at the loser school did was idiotic, he didn’t run the right drills in practice, he didn’t have a good game plan, he didn’t know how to motivate people. It was awful and last night the Redskins looked that awful. This is my only post for the day as I’m going to go do something more constructive than agonize over the loss.

2 quotes to back it up
http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/34516604/ns/sports-nfl/
"You’ve got a new boss to impress," cornerback DeAngelo Hall said. "This is an audition. These last couple of games is an audition. Bruce Allen pretty much got a head start on evaluating talent. If he looks at what he saw today, he’ll scrap this whole thing."
"I don’t think really this team is that bad. The players ain’t that bad," said Haynesworth, who drew a personal foul for throwing a haymaker at Brandon Jacobs in the fourth quarter. "The score, the record, (they) say that we’re horrible, that we don’t know how to play football. But I’ve been around these guys a lot and I think they know how to play football. I think we’re just all going in different directions, and we need somebody to lead us in the right direction."
OK, now I’m really done, back to work.
"...and we need somebody to lead us in the right direction."
Sounds like our best player has checked out on Zorn. I’ll bet this isn’t the last shalacking we endure this season.
Zorn?
Or Blache?

Probably both
But I would say that since he is talking about their season record, this is more of a condemnation of JZ. Big Al said that we are ALL going in different directions, meaning the entire team.
I believe last night says a great deal about the lack of leadership on this coaching staff. As much character as Jim Zorn may have…he appears to have no natural leadership abilities. Even more important than that, he has no “presence” about him.
I would say both
Blache’s schemes were a disaster and Zorn….well, enough has been said already.
The entire team was certainly
running around in all directions – not necessarily in a direction useful to making a play work or to defend one.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
As an Eagles fan you would expect the highest paid player to be a leader..
You guys have talent. Its just missing that one thing….An owner
Just out of curiosity...
what’s the sentiment out in Eagle-land now that Jeff Lurie has sprung for a few gifted receivers and DeSean Jackson is lighting up the league?
I’d be really happy, but kinda pissed, too….
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
The Skins were too predictable on both offense and defense.
The Giants have played Blache’s defensive schemes often enough to know how to exploit them. The Skins were out coached as much as anything. The game was lost before the teams got on the field. The Giants pass rush concentrated on breaking down the middle of the pocket early and often.
The Giants defensive end stunted around the middle and sack Jason. The linebacker blitz was not much different. Play action passing might have helped some.

the worst play was Goff lining up to blitz and
got to Campbell untouched before he reach the 3 step drop, that is unbelievable

by LETJASONPASS on Dec 23, 2009 9:33 AM EST up reply actions
Coaching and game planning were horrible ....
This game was a prime example of how little respect this team has for Jim Zorn as a coach. How as a head coach can you allow the same BS to go on in your defensive backfield. I am not a big Jerry Grey fan it does not seem like he is doing a good job scouting out the receivers for his DB’s. Game in and game out the DB’s make the same mistakes. How many times are they going to be out of position ?? Does he not notice this on film ? What kind of communication during the week does Blache and Grey have ?? We were not getting beat because of talent but because of being out of position on most plays. Danny Allen sucks how often do we actually see good blocking on special teams. I say we need a new special teams coach.

Who is Danny Allen?
Is it Blache, Gray or Jackson on Defense? Or a combination of all three. Who was out of position?
Danny Smith?

nice quote from AH. I really like the guy. I wish they did not spend so much on him- he is not worth $12mm per year ($1-2mm per game).
ok- that was brutal. wonderful. that game just made the next coach another $1-2mm per year. you are missing the silver lining. that complete and utter destruction was a major plus for us long term because it gives the GM more power to make his mark. “Dan, I know u want to keep XXX for depth, but we’re covered there. And this team needs YYY. I saw what you put together.”
I think Gruden did a great job at highlighting all the little things we do wrong. We littered the field with both coaching and execution mistakes. Really, it was eye opening what occurred after two seasons and the 4th time we played that team with this coaching staff. Zorn is gone with that fake field goal. He panicked. A field goal, 7 on the opening drive of the second half, a defensive stop, and we are down 2 scores with the ball midway through the third quarter. Unfortunately, we never could stop them.
And you can not play zone against good QBs when you can’t get any pressure on him. Football 101.
by les boulez bomber on Dec 22, 2009 9:13 AM EST reply actions
My favorite....
Was the touchdown on Tryon. He pointed out that Tryon set up his coverage to ensure that his man run his route to the outside. “If you do that…the last thing you should do is get beat to the outside.” says Gruden. Big surprise…Tryon gets burnt to the outside.
Embarassement
What a sad excuse we have as football players. I have been been blaming our QB for the most of the problems but have a different opinion.Iam not saying he a great QB but I don’t care who you have as a QB the results would have been the same. We have no off line all of them should be fired. I agree if the players was playing for thier jobs next year then what I saw with a few exception should be fired. I think Jason Campbell would had a decent year if he had help you can’t throw laying on your back.

that is funny because,Todd Collins looked good at QB while his was in there.
Jason Campbell some times forgets how to play QB,and he forgot again last night. Maybe we will get a 3rd round pick for him ,in free agency, after last night a 1st round pick may be wishful thinking. Tood Collins looked way better than Cambpell at QB, last night.

Todd Collins
was in for like 5 plays. The only significant difference I noticed was that he has a quicker release — something he probably learned from watching Campbell go down time after time last night.

Still didn't stop the G-Assholes
from knocking him down after he got rid of the ball – like with Jason. Is Goodell trying to send a message via the refs to Snyder? What could it be?
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Did anyone not see the facemask
eye gouging of Fred on the dropped TD pass from Collins? I’m just sayin there should have been a fight right there and earlier on. You endure what you tolerate – and someone should have stood up and defended Jason after he was getting killed.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Sorry for the disjointed post
I’m a little tired and just way disappointed.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Sorry
But all DL knock down the QB, Manning was knocked down also.
It was more noticeable because Campbell held the ball longer, you coach did not use misdirection – ie screens/ middle tosses/draws to slow down the rusher until the second half, and your offense line is attrocious. Goff was untouched on a sack, and Uemiorya was escorted to Campbell on the play he got hurt
Blame the coaching, blame the OL, and blame the ref,
J.Campbell played bad last night,T.Collins looked better in limited appearance
I think you are right CHAOS-BRINGER, Campbell does sometimes forget how to play QB, I hope the Redskins can still tender him for a 1st and 3rd in free agency, but they will be lucky to get a 3rd for him, unless will get a sucker. Shanahand and Allen will get rid of him,and we will get future QB in draft either Bradford or Tebow.

Not a great QB list in this years draft
If you’re right about us getting Bradford or Tebow then let’s hope Bradford can avoid injuries (not likely with our OL) or Tebow can learn that QBs pass in the NFL and running is a desperation move for a QB.
I’m not thrilled with either of those prosepcts.
Oh we'll tender him all right.
If this continues, he will be totally tenderized when we put him on the market. I thought after last week he was going to make it, but after last night I’d say he is about 90% Ramseyed/5% Ferrotosized.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
I'm sorry
But the team that takes Tebow to play quarterback for their future will set their franchise back for as many years that they will be counting on him to play that position.
He is literally the definition of “the great college QB completely not suited for an NFL QB”.
Bradford IMO is going to easily transition to the NFL but it will be up to him to make it happen. He has all the tools whereas Tebow does not.
Bradford is too injury prone
otherwise I think you’re right. But why draft a QB this year at all. Sign Jeff Garcia or ______ (fill in the blank) to take the pounding until we have a decent OL.
SERIOUSLY
Not about Bradford…(although he, to me, is the best QB coming out this year). Put someone back there to take a beating until we have a respectable offensive line.
Why? We saw the perfect example last night. David Carr was highly rated by most coming out of college. His career was RUINED due to his organization throwing him behind an offensive line that was ill prepared to protect a franchise quarterback.
If we do pick up a QB in the draft (which we absolutely should not) than Garcia would be a great QB to get slaughtered by opposing defenses until our OLine proves to be atleast NFL caliber. I’ll just imagine him in an Eagles uniform when he is getting buried in the sod by opposing defenses.
That's Danny' boy - Tebow, unless Shanahand and Allen can trade up to get Colt McCoy
trade J.C.
by ghost rider on Dec 22, 2009 12:59 PM EST up reply actions
Colt would get killed too
Seriously, is it really hard to understand that no QB is going to do well behind this OL? It’s just a stupid waste of a draft pick, time, money, and opportunity to draft a QB, ANY QB.
Why did you want to get rid of VC if you’tr just going to do the same stupid things he did…like ignore the OL?
I was hoping no one would respond to this guy
so he would just go away again. There’s no sense in trying to have an intelligent convo with him, it’s just not gonna happen.
SpotieOtieDopalicious
Draft an OL...
I wouldn’t mind if our first 3 picks were all OLinemen, then we can go for Dan LeFevour in the 4th round to back up Campbell and have him and Colt slug it out for the #2 spot.
Not a bad plan, actually.
Therefore it is doomed unless this Allen guy just shows up with some cajones no one’s heard of…yeah….right.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
What are you talking about .....???
If we had Collins, Bradford and Tebow in our line up we would be looking for a new QB already. Please name any of these Qb’s that would not be on injured reseve after taking the pounding JC 17 took. We are lucky to have him behind this sorry offensive line.
by LETJASONPASS on Dec 22, 2009 1:37 PM EST up reply actions
I agree
I think Jaws gives the best assessment of Campbell when he says that “You can win games with this guy”.
wildinout and I share the thought that we should dedicate the beginning of our draft to offensive linemen. Find someone in the later rounds that fits into the "Parcells criteria.
On a MNF broadcast, they mentioned that Parcells will not draft a quarterback unless they have graduated from school and won 23 games. Obviously it isnt foolproof but you can eliminate jokers like JaMarcus Russell. LeFevour would certainly fit the bill.
I def like
that Parcells philosophy on QB’s – they’ll be winners both on the field and academically. They’ll be committed to achieving a goal and able to overcome adversity, plus they’ll be better versed in seeing different football schemes and adapting to opponents adapting to their schemes.
LeFevour may not be a big name QB, but he’s a winner, he’s a decent size (6’3", 236lbs) and has great stats even though it is only the MWC: 12,510 yards in 4 seasons starting, 101 tds, 35 ints, as well as 2,936 yards rushing and 46 tds rushing. That’s an average season of 3,127 yards passing, 25 tds, 9 ints, 734 yards rushing and 11 tds rushing. I used to watch Joe Flacco torch my school Towson in the Colonial conference and you could just tell he was a smart leader with football intelligence…Tom Brady in the 6th round anyone?
Another one sees the light...
It’s about time people realize Campbell isn’t the problem. Boneheads were yelling, “STAY DOWN” when Campbell was on the ground in the stadium last night…they were so happy when Todd Collins came in. I can’t even lie – I was kind of shocked when he came in and threw that pass for 35 yards and then threw that stripe in the end zone that was dropped by the WR. But, since the world balances itself out and everything is in it’s right place, Collins subsequently began to get his sternum caved in by G-Men helmets since our O-line was getting tossed around like ragdolls.
Davis got his eyes practically gouged out
and then facemasked before he dropped the ball. Should have been a TD. I was not impressed with the level of “dirty” play I saw out of the G-Men; and the refs just seemed to let it go.
Had any Skins the balls to start a fight in the 1st Qtr, when they should have, it may have forced the refs to call an even game. Instead, it was uphill all night.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Did you see Campbell during the locker room interview he said he got poked in the eye
the reporter asked him “how did he get the shiner”? I think someone put some make up on him after he came out of the locker room for his interview. It looked like his black eye was gone.

I loved
how i got to watch this game in philly with all my eagles friends because it was monday night…just to be completely demoralized by them, oh, and the redskins.
It these guys were playing for their jobs
The only quote I wanted to hear from any of them was, “Would you like some fries with this.”
I had hopes that there was a foundation on this team that would allow us to go forward with a reasonable draft. Now I say blow it up. Except for a few players, we were physically intimidated. The only upside was that Bruce Allen should have gotten a real good look at what type of players we need in the NFC East, because we just got smashmouthed.
I’m done.

Throw away games
It’s obvious that we probably won’t win another game this season. They have clearly given up.
I agree
they looked utterly lifeless. If the team name were to change (which I’m against 100%) then they should become the zombies.
Yeah....
and I’m not sure that I like it.
"The existence of flamethrowers is proof that someone, somewhere, said to himself, 'I want to set those people over there on fire, but I don't feel like walking over there to do it.'"
Yeah, that was pretty brutal....
what’s worse is the fact that I was watching it with a Giants fan.
Fortunately, she’s my gf, so she was sympathetic more than anything else.
Towards the end of the first half, two of my friends who are Steelers fans called me just to taunt me, because “it’s not a beatdown if you’re not being embarrassed by your friends”.
"The existence of flamethrowers is proof that someone, somewhere, said to himself, 'I want to set those people over there on fire, but I don't feel like walking over there to do it.'"
If they had burned ya three times with the lack of execution of that defense, why not go ahead and rush the guy? after all, he’s picking apart your zone as is.
Everytime we tried to rush, the Giants called another screen pass.
"The existence of flamethrowers is proof that someone, somewhere, said to himself, 'I want to set those people over there on fire, but I don't feel like walking over there to do it.'"
Now that I think about it
I don’t even feel like I watched a game last night – it was more like a snuff film.
All you can do is stare at the screen in horrific disbelief as you watch your team get raped (JC17), manhandled (O-Line&D-Line), and ripped apart (our secondary).
SpotieOtieDopalicious
Just wondering...
If anyone else found comfort last night in going to the NFL Mock database and looking at OLine prospects.
I started doing that last week
but the good news is that we only need 5 OL, as some of our current guys might be decent backups. :P
HAHA
“Might” – that’s the key word. So sad that we cant even be remotely excited to have solid back up olinemen next year if we do rebuild this mess. As much as Buges hyped Heyer this year, that guy is and will always be practice squad to me.
At least they were consistent
Consistently pathetic from top to bottom. No one gets a pass on this one. I think it was a real eye-opener for Bruce Allen. He probably didn’t realize how bad the situation really is. No one on this roster should feel safe with the exception of fat Albert and his moronic contract and the out of position Brian Orakpo. I don’t know where he should start because, as I see it, we have no strengths. It’s mediocrity or downright garbage across the board. The new regime needs a five year plan and Danny boy needs to show patience and let it happen. It’s not going to be pretty for 2-3 years but turnarounds this monumental are possible. As Redskins fans we have grown accustomed to this type of embarrassment over the last 10 years and I think we need to endure it for a few more years to get things straightened out. Pray that Bruce starts making the right decisions and that Danny boy lets him. I’ll be happy when this season is finally over and , please God, do not let the Cowboys, Giants or Eagles win the SuperBowl.
Penalties
I’m a Giants fan, and I held my breath 3 or 4 times last night after Campbell was hit. No flags. Very surprising, given the league’s emphasis on protecting quarterbacks and the recent information on long-term damage from concussions.
Regarding the Haynesworth-Jacobs imbroglio — definitely should’ve been offsetting penalties.
However, the intentional grounding penalty was legitimate. The rules say that the ball has to at least reach the line of scrimmage to avoid the penalty when out of the pocket. It happened a couple of weeks ago with Tony Romo, also. Campbell’s pass was at least 5 yards short of the line of scrimmage. The running back that was knocked down was well beyond the line.
I know Redskins fans don’t want to hear it, but I was very impressed with Campbell standing up in the face of the punishment he was taking. Yes, the 2 interceptions were terrible, but i really like him.
Most people now are smart enough to understand that it is our sorry O-line .....
and not Jason Campbell . You will always have some JC-haters no matter what.

The second pick I thought was just one of them things and not so bad at all, your behind by a lot, for the first time all night you get a little bit of time, but this time no WR’s are open and you are just desperate not to waste the opportunity (because once agian its the first time you have more than .2 of a second all night) so you try and force something and it gets picked, I could live with that one.
The first one however was just horrendous,

To me
Campbell should be lauded for what he is doing. He was given an out last night and most people wouldve taken it. Instead he was getting manhandled to a degree where it really was difficult to watch.
Jason Campbell hasn’t been given even the slightest opportunity to prove his worth as our QB. I’m not saying that, given consistent time in the pocket, he will blossom into a HOF QB…but him putting his body on the line like that deserves some respect from us, and hopefully the front office will recognize that it is the failings of Vinny Cerrato and not of Campbell that has resulted in this atrocity of a season.
Go out in your back yard with a friend and stand face to face. Pretend you are a receiver and see how much separation you can get in 1 second. That is all this guy has to work with – understand that. In our division, there are superstars lining up against our line. The disparity between a superstar in the NFL and a practice squad player is greater than in any other sport. We have been lining up practice squad players against superstars and expecting our QB to make plays. That is unreasonable.
JC would probably take heart with comments such as this...
but I doubt that his vision has cleared yet. Hope someone reads to him while he is in traction and in the ice bath.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
JC will be rewarded
for what he’s done, the only question is who will do it, us or another team.
It Was As Bad As The Uniforms
But Dan probably owns the uniform company, so he’s still making money…

I don't like them
plus they wore them last year at the Pittsburgh game which still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I'm with DC
I like them as well
SpotieOtieDopalicious
The league and MNF probably did not allow them to wear white
to help disguise the fact that they would surrender after the first 2 drives.

Please cross-apply this thread
to last night’s game.
"The existence of flamethrowers is proof that someone, somewhere, said to himself, 'I want to set those people over there on fire, but I don't feel like walking over there to do it.'"
I hear ya 'Skins
although I do thank NBC for those wonderful telling stats…10 different starting lineups with OL personnel. The fact that Campbell had little time to throw the ball and when he did, he didn’t know what to do with it and also pointing out his failings in picking up blitzes and his propensity to make the big mistakes. The defense doing it’s job in holding Dallas to 17 points but the offensive side of the ball is such a mess that it’s no wonder that we didn’t score.
I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused....
Yep.
It’s just a goddamned shame that the Allen hiring derailed any in-season progress we HAD been making.

Whoa....
are all HH posts showing up in bold now?

yeah it saves time
I think the frustration level is so high that we’re lucky not have everything in bold italics

Who was open ?? No Devin Thomas no speed at receiver ... Santana has lost a step
he can not even out run linebackers …

ummmm
Thomas was out with a foot injury, so Kelly got the start. The receivers not getting separation was noted on the broadcast that the ‘Skins are unable to throw downfield due to their OL woes in not being able to offer the QB any protection. Hence, opposing D’s can play jam all day and not worry about getting beat deep. It’s pretty easy for an opposing D if they know that your limited to passes behind, at or just beyond the LOS.

I noticed they mentioned it. Jason feels comfortable throwing to spots on the field with Devin
playing. He can not do the samething with Moss. Devin has the size, speed, strength and he is physical. He will fight for the ball and he is normally stronger than any Db covering him. If you think back Jason was getting hit and was just throwing the ball to a spot knowing that Devin would out fight the db for the ball. It was not like he had alot of time. Jason would stand in the pocket and get hit in the mouth but Devin would make the catch.
