Moving Forward!!!!

OK.

Now that pretty much every starter on the offence has been injured or replaced for the season except Campbell and Moss we are playing like a team.

Here is the problem.

I know in my heart that Snyder is gonna let Campbell go and waste not just our first round pick on one of these QBs but other later round picks just to get the draft position to pick them up. Gonna totally ignore our line issues once again. Im not the biggest JC17 fan but he gets the job done with a working running game that balances things out.

I like the Ganther - Cartwright duo but we all know that unless the Cap limit is removed for next year Portis is staying. He will get the start. I just hope the extra down time and the fear of replacement kicks him into shape. If the cap limit is not removed Snyder will not have the space to eat his contract.

I would like to keep Cooley but he can be traded for more picks in the draft. He is an asset to the team but the team needs work.... A few more picks would helpful...

Coach..... Looks like Shanny is coming here. Everyone says its pretty much a done deal...(explains Sherm Lewis)... He will more than likely bring his son here from I believe SD (could be wrong on that) and many other of his personal favorites...

I know things are gonna be crazy for 2 years or so but we all need to remember that this is gonna be a total rebuild. Its gonna take years to get this team title worthy...

I dont think that the play calling will be much different then they are now but hopfully we will have plays with more than 2 looks capable....

Im ready for next year to be here all ready....

Keep in mind yall had we been playing all year as we are playing now we would have the division locked... We only 2 games by  more than a TD.... Makes me cry...

Which brings me to my final point. due to our recent successes, Vinny's job is now secure. He now has the argument that his picks are solid. He can now boast that he has picked winners. He can now say that the mess we are in is because of contract agreements with Joe Gibbs when he had the controls. He will stay.. I can promise you that!

Poll
If you could get rid of one player, who would it be? Keep in mind this cut would have to benefit the team in some way... Do not just use personal disgust in an individual.

I voted Moss.....

simply for the reason that he holds some value…..and IF Campbell stays…….it might help keep him from locking in on him as he did earlier in the year. I would think we could get a third rounder for him….and JC’s concentration…..plus it will push youngsters on the field and get some value for our investment in DT and MK. I would like to see MM get on the field more as well. If we are rebuilding…..just straight up cut ARE….and let me see a 3 WR set in the form of DT, MK, and MM!

I could see that...

I would rather keep him and move him to the slot… use him like Welker… He could do a lot of damage that way…

I just think.....

if it’s an uncapped year…..get rid of Moss and get some value before he is too old or gets a major injury…..and let these youngsters go. Maybe get a young small burner through FA or late round of the draft…..a Johnny Knox type to work into that role. I would like to see MM and MK on the outside next season with DT in the slot! If we draft a QB (which I pray we don’t…..at least till next year when Locker comes out)…….there is no reason to keep Moss here if he has any value. We are committed to a rebuild at that point so we need all the young guys to get time together. The bigger value to keeping Moss to me, would be to teach the young guys! I still think Moss is a great receiver, but value is value and year 3 should be the year everything clicks for MK and DT!

I know

I have certainly changed my viewpoint on him. That is as long as we have a balanced or run heavy O. If the game turns to him HAVing to make the play he folds. Thats still a vallid argument in my book. I think he needs to stay here until we can get this team back on its feet…

I voted ARE

I think maybe we could get a 3rd or 4th rounder for him (or is this wishful thinking)

And we could use that pick to get a mid level RB

lol...

Thats like getting a 3rd or 4th rounder for getting your recycles out on time on trash day… I dont think we would get much for him… He probably just gets put on waivers…

I agree milc....

nobody is going to trade picks and pick up that contract for ARE

by shvd98z24 on Dec 15, 2009 11:07 PM EST up reply actions

I voted portis...

The RB is a huge position and let’s be real, not cutting him now will only waste a roster spot for when he gets hurt next year. Randle El, who is a close 2nd, is at least serviceable as a slot WR.

I just dont get why he is having so much trouble on special teams

every week there is some crazy ass play on special teams when he is catching… JUst craziness

The funny thing (if you can call it that)

is that the ONLY reason ARE is back there is because he is so “dependable.” Well, we can certainly depend on him to not run a kick back toward the opposing team’s goal line.

I understand the ploy to try to get something for someone

but CP is just a huge distraction and IMO the single biggest reason we were playing so poorly in the beginning of the year. I could spell it out, and certainly there are a number of other factors, but as far as the team’s attitude and output, he submarined the team emotionally, so that’s the primary reason I went that way. Lack of production didn’t assuage my opinion, either.

No way Vinny gets anything for anyone

A competent GM would have trouble getting any sort of draft picks for any player on this roster. How would a bafoon like Cerrato pull it off?….Randle El is a #3 on a bad team at best! Randy Moss was traded for a 4th round pick, so ARE could probably get a 14th rounder in 2039!

Nice
Randy Moss was traded for a 4th round pick, so ARE could probably get a 14th rounder in 2039!

But I think ARE got some props for good behavior. Moss, not so much as he had been tankin’ big time for the Raiders.

I voted for Zorn

the offense was horrible until Sherm arrived so what does Zorn do for the team? Nothing. He has been awful and I see no value in continuity of awfulness.

ARE (for his awful punt returning and his sub par WR play) was a very close 2nd and Portis was right on their heals. Can you see that huge fork sticking out of Portis, he’s done!

Consensus on Offensive Line

There seems to be an overall consensus that the OL is the weakest link on the team.
Football Outsiders – http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol – substantiates this opinion.
The power rank for rushing was 30 (only 2 teams worse) and pass protections was 26th.
Jason Campbell eluded a lot of the Raiders rush on his own. He certainly got hit a lot even though he was sacked as much as he was in the earlier part of the season. Admittedly the weight of the first 8 games lack of success by the OL contributes heavily to the overall season rankings. Heyer could have been on the list, but he still would not have competed with Portis and ARE for votes to ostracize, but his play at right or left tackle hurt the team more than any of the right guards..

If I recall correctly

Jason got hit – not just hurried – on nearly 50% of his drop backs. And yet, unlike at the beginning of the year, you could see he was focused down field. His yds/completion of nearly 8 shows that he was really stretching the field and it contributed to a really good game for him. Liked his TD drive at the end of the 2nd qtr, too.

Excellent Job By Jason, Did he learn it from his head coach?

Could it have something to do with his head coach on why he’s playing better according to Zorn…
Zorn made JC better by benching him at least based on his remarks
Transcript from Redskins Confidential by John Keim

On the key moment in the development of Jason Campbell (the Kansas City game): I’ll start by talking about Chris Horton. Remember when we took Chris off the starting strong safety position and put Reed Doughty back in and then two or three weeks later, how come Horton is back in there? It’s sitting back, watching someone else play his position that gave him a little better… I don’t know if it relaxed him or urged him to do something different, maybe in his preparation. This is a privilege out there; it’s not an entitlement. That helped him. With Jason Campbell, there were things open in that Kansas City game and the way he was playing, he knew when he watched the video. He knew something was not right here. Taking him out and letting Todd play and then watching it on video and discussing it with him made a huge difference in the way he prepared the following week. Some of those circumstances do create a learning opportunity for those guys. It’s happened more than just with those two guys on the team…. They’re better prepared as we’ve gone along here

Just clarifying

Zorn has not improved the play of Jason Campbell and is lying because he is trying to save his job…

by dr WNC on Dec 16, 2009 12:48 PM EST up reply actions

LOL , Funny that is the one thing Zorn has done well he is a great QB coach..

Zorn will be back to being a QB coach if and hopefully when he gets fired. Maybe the Raiders will hire him to help J Russell out ? What do you think ?

by LETJASONPASS on Dec 16, 2009 1:17 PM EST up reply actions

Welcome to my world

where nothing is as it seems…I also stick by my post where I said freeing Zorn from the OC responsibilities helped Jason because Zorn was able to spend more time with him.

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

So Zorn should be the QB coach

and we should get someone else to be HC. I could live with that. Zorn QB coach, Sherm Lewis OC and ??? as HC. It sounds ok until I realized that a real HC will want to pick his coaching staff and not have those coaches dictated to him.

by aFan4Life on Dec 16, 2009 2:47 PM EST up reply actions

Fill int the ???

Fassel as head coach
He was a candidate before
He would be fine in keeping Sherm and Zorn; as well as the rest of the staff.
Just won the UFL!
And he’s still playing up to Danny

PORTIS, BUT ONLY IF YOU CAN REPLACE HIM WITH A BEAST

His heart isn’t in it here. But our “back-ups” aren’t the beast we need to pound the ball through a closing hole. Wish we could clone Gore. He’s the guy I wish we had.

Sure, Vinny will stick around. Everyone needs a pet.
