Coaching next year. And draft.

Ok, so as we all know, the players are emptying the tank every game for the past 4-5 weeks, but since this season is over for the Skins, lets look ahead to next year.

Draft:  This draft, i think, will depend entirely on whether we keep Jason Campbell or not.  If not, do we get a top end QB like Jimmy Clausen or Colt McCoy?  If I was Snyder and Cerrato, i would keep JC and load up on O-line, like trade down, get a first round o-line, maybe something else with the second rounder, get another o-lineman with the next pick, and another one down the road.  Maybe a RB somewhere in there?   A LB would probably be smart and then they could move Brian to a full time beast (end).  And if Carlos leaves then maybe a CB too.  But i think our glaring hole is at the O-line and i know I'm not the only one.  The line has preformed valiantly the past couple of weeks, which is great becasue that means less lineman we need to draft.  The defense is great, flat out great, maybe a FS so LaRon can go back to what he does best, stupid assholes who took Sean away, damnit.  But if Snyder and Vinny decide to keep Jason, i think it would help us in the long run and immediatly.  I was one of those people calling for Zorn's job and Campbell to get out, but now it really seems like they are grasping the offense that Sherman Lewis is calling, which brings me to my next point.

Coaching:  SEE IF WE CAN LOCK UP SHERMAN LEWIS!  The players are getting it right and Sherman gets most if not all the credit.  I think we should try and keep him and see if he'll be the offensive coordinator.  Now I am going to contradict myself because this would be awesome, even though it is probably out of question.  Fire Zorn or demote him.  See if he will take one for the team and be assistant coordinator so he can focus on making Jason better.  Now this will probably draw some negative comments, but I wanna say it anyway.  Go get Gregg Williams as our Head Coach.  I know that Greg Blache has done a good job, but he learned from Gregg, and he could keep his job as D-Coordinator, it would just make our D that much better, i mean look what he did with the Saints D.  I know it doesn't seem likely, but it is a Head Coaching job, and isn't that what every coordinator is building up to?  I don't know how many teams would want Zorn after he got his play calling privelidges stripped from him and he wasn't doing good when he had them, so maybe some time on the market will draw him back to us, and even if Sherman doesn't want to be a coordinator and just wants to be an "Offensive Consultant" then get Zorn as the O-Coordinator.  I just think he can really help Jason develop to his full potential, because he has shown us what he can do when they cut him loose.  I know the chances of a Head Coach accepting to be demoted probably won't happen, but i think that it would be better than going out and getting someone else who wants to add his own offense again.  The players are finally used to what is going now and maybe that can carry over into next season.

Landry

I deffinently think landry was a better safety (much much smarter player) when we had ST21 here, anyone know when Taylor Mays is gonna go near in the draft

Well on the WalterFootball mock draft

They`ve got Mays going as the 24th pick & the scout report on him does`nt sound to good, .

# Weaknesses:

  1. Takes false steps in coverage and poor angles
  2. Lacks instincts
  3. Zero ball skills
  4. Not much of a playmaker
  5. Poor tackling technique; throws body around without using arms/hands to wrap up
  6. Hasn’t improved his weaknesses going back to sophomore season
  7. Occasionally not in position
  8. Plays out of control
  9. More of an athlete than a football player

That sounds like ST21

I like him but I do agree Oline is MUCH more important

Eric Berry

Is a top 10 pick, and is the closest thing to ST21 to be in the draft for a looong time.

Totally agree......

Offensive line needs the most help. Period.

I hope we keep campbell. Unleash the deep ball. With devin thomas and fred davis developing nicely, along with cooley, perhaps malcom kelly and a healthy backfield (ganther, betts and portis with a lighter load) we can have a potent offense (one that scores more than 17 pts).

We also need a linebacker so we can move sack-pro back to DE so he can get like 10 sacks a game.

The Twin Terlits

will never bring Williams back. With Blache/Gray, D. Smith and the Sherms, we have an excellent coaching staff that doesn’t need a super duper HC. Just someone to point the ship, deal with the Terlits and the press, and coordinate training camp, draft day (likely not given much input there), etc. It also gives him time to work with Jason. Zorn is perfect for this. Everyone seems to get along as long as he isn’t making game day decisions it works beautifully. And he is not an arrogant fat pig like Weiss, Holmgren, Reid, etc.

Our ship appears to be righting itself and moving forward. Why blow it up now?

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

If we keep JC

we need to draft a 1rd OT. I keep saying this, but here it is again. With Detriot drafting in front of us, there is no way we get Okung(the top rated OT from Ok St.), We may need to see what underclassmen delcare early, or look to trade back in the 1st, as I don’t think there is another OT worthy of the 5-7 pick. Both Buffalo and Seattle may be in the market for a QB, and they could be ideal trading partners if either one thinks the other is going to move up and grab Sam Bradford. There are pleanty of OT we can grab in the late first or early second that are going to be solid. We also need to address our RB situation in the 2nd. I really like Demarco Murray(junior from Oklahoma), if he declares early. Think Knowshon Moreno with more speed. Joe McKnight is also an option here. If we can get another 2nd by trading down or trading a player, I would take either a LB like Navarro Bowman from PSU or the Kid from TCU or another OT like Jason Fox from Miami. If we can pick up a 3rd, I would go for Matt Tennant C Boston College.

You don't think Detroit needs a DT?

One of their DT’s is 36 and the other is a rookie, fouth-round pick out of D-II. No depth. Also, Jim Schwartz is defensive-minded.

There's no "if" about it

We need a 1st rd OT regardless of what we do at QB.

so much of it depends on how the team plays out

If they win another one or two (we get the desperate Giants and a swooning Pokes before we get to play Norval resting his bunch since they’ll have the #2 AFC seed locked up by then) we could be picking in the latter half of the top 10.

I will say this, I’m not impressed by the QB’s that i’ve seen in college thus far, at least none that are worthy of a top ten pick. Too many scattergun arms or guys playing in systems that promote quick passing that don’t allow for a real good evaluation of a QB’s game at the next level. At least no one that I would spend a pick on if I was the GM, although ymmv. Out of the QB play that I have seen this year, Canfield out of Ore St. Locker out of UDub (who’s staying in school) and Pike out of Cinncinnati are the best that I have seen. Besides, once someone figured out how to help JC with play calling shortcuts, his time management and game management improved (ty Mr. Lewis) so that I don’t have too much of an issue with him back there.

One other thing about QB’s, certain conferences get their guys ready for the pro’s, the SEC and the Big 12 don’t appear to be those conferences. From the big 12 I’ll grant you that the comeback of Vince Young has been great to witness, but how many other current nfl signal callers are from those two conferences? Josh Freeman (Kstate) from Tampa Bay has struggled (as expected, so who knows). From the SEC we have mixed results, I count three on the plus side, the Mannings (and I say it’s the genes, not the schools) and our own JC (who is a marginal plus and only lately). On the minus side, I see Jay Cutler out of Vandy (who looks more and more like Jeff George every game) and the disaster that is JaMarcus Russell. So unless someone is truly special like Mr. Young (who is like Michael Vick V2.0) I would stay away from QB’s from those conferences.

I would suggest that we set our sights on one of two places of need, the OL or OLB. I could see the ’Skins simply staying put and picking up the OT Williams from Okla or OLB Witherspoon from Mizzou. I would be even happer to trade down to get them with someone like Jacksonville who may be pushed by their fan base to get Tebow at all costs.

I’ve seen Mays play out here in Pac 10 land. Pass on him, although there is plenty of other talent out here, Mr. Mays was somewhat exposed this year as USC was lacking it’s usual pass rush chops and had graduated all of those linebackers last year. That had left Mays free to roam around and make highlight reel hits. This year he had to help in coverage and was less than stellar.

As for RB’s, improve the line and you’ll see decent numbers no matter who is running behind, so far I’m perfectly happy to see Ganther or Betts tote the pigskin for us. Sure it’s okay to be open to talent, but with the OL and OLB so weak in depth, I would rather spend the picks on those positions and CB versus on a RB.

I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused....

I THINK YOU'RE RIGHT, BUT.....

I can’t see Greg Williams coming here, especially after he sat through a grueling 10 hour interview and was then summarily written off. He was Gibbs’ hand-picked candidate as his successor, then Vinny and Dan saw too much competance and were scared off. No, they’ll find another Wade Phillips or someone even more pliable and we’ll start this all up again.

You guys need Oline

Im an Eagles fan that lives in redskin territory so i watch them a lot. You guys have great young WRs and i personally think campbell is a good QB. But why did you guys get rid of Chase Daniels? he was a beast! i would also look at some new CBs in the draft or FA. it seems like whenever there is a big play carlos rogers is the one who blew coverage. I would also put moss in returns because randle el blows.
