Finally, and kicker that can kick................

I know it was just his first game with the team, but considering the weather I thought those two 40 yarders were beautiful.  Not sure if he's the long term solution because it's too early to tell, but it was nice watching kicks go through the uprights.  He also had some good distance on the kickoffs too.  The coverage was surprisingly shoddy today, but a win is a win nontheless.  I hope he works out.

I agree

The new guy definitely has a leg. I can’t think of a game when Suisham knocked a kickoff into the endzone for a touch back multiple times. Lets wait and see how he kicks under pressure though even though I hope that doesn’t come soon.

He’ll be under pressure for the rest of the season whenever he lines up to kick because of the fact that our last kicker was cut because he couldn’t deal with adversity

Touchbacks are beautiful

Makes kick coverage so easy. Our punt coverage looked lousy most of the day though. Gano looked awesome, but our special teams still need alot of work.

He also put a KO within a 3yd box

of the end-zone marker. I mean right in the corner – beautiful.

I was impressed

With his kickoffs as well. They were consistently in or near the end zone virtually every time. I don’t want to get too enamored with him however, because I was feeling the same way with Suisham at the beginning of the year.

Yeah, but....

two back-to-back touchbacks? I can’t recall Suisham ever doing that.

I remember hearing

Coaches (Zorn and others I believe) say that they prefer touchbacks. I’m guessing because a lot of times the kick returner usually gets past the 20 yard line, so it may be a better option to kick it into the endzone every time. Plus, Suisham evidentially didn’t have a strong enough leg to even kick it into the end zone for a touchback which should tell you something.

It's always a better option than

a decent runback with the ever present penalty flags, or getting a long one or worse the quick score. Keeps injuries down too.

what was the story on the opening kickoff

They only returned it 9 yards from the one, did the kicker get it really high and give our chasers time to get down there or was it just a terrible effort at returning a ball

Yea Gano put the ball very high up and gave the ST’s alot of time to get down there pommy

thanks for that

I literally was on the bus on the way to work (Sunday arvo is Monday Morning in Sydney) and following the play by play on my phone and I saw 9yard return and tried to figure out how such a pitiful return was possible and the only explanation I could come up with was a massive hang time place kick.

They are quite rare, no, I mean I know punters do it all the time, but surely a kicker who can do that is very valuable just as a kick off man (Like Carolina have a FG guy and a Kick Off guy)

Wow....

I didn’t hear that part, either. I missed the beginning of the game while working.
