Trade Cooley

Everybody keep their composure! It just an idea.

But does anyone else think we should trade Cooley this off season?  We have FDavis, he's solid and Cooley's trade value is relatively high.  You get younger with Davis and a couple of draft picks.

I know this idea will piss a lot of people off b/c Cooley is a funny dude and everybody's Internet boyfriend, but from a football perspective this would make sense.  Especially if Shanahan comes on-board b/c he usually prefers larger tight ends.

I said the same over a month ago

before he was hurt. Lot’s of teams would go for a receiving TE and PBowler. Of course, I really like the idea of having Cooley, Yoder and Davis with DT, Moss or MK in at the same time. It would be very hard to defend against. Could even run out of that formation.

it all depends

on what we can get for him. personally I don’t think you’d get someone with an equivalent impact so I’d rather keep him and run some plays out of a 2 TE single back formation.

by aFan4Life on Dec 11, 2009 11:59 AM EST reply actions

My thoughts are

You never know how a player is going to come back from an injury sometimes when a player comes back from a season ending injury they don’t play with the same reckless abandonment for their bodies that they previously had which made them so great. I have alot of respect for Cooley as both a person and a player so I would hate to see him leave but this is the time we should see what we can get for him because we can’t be sure what his value will be after next season. I think that if we can’t get a 2nd and 5th rounder or better we should keep him but we could use all the draft picks we can get at this time especially if we’re going qb with our first round pick.

by skinsfan28 on Dec 11, 2009 12:06 PM EST reply actions

anything below a 2nd round for Cooley isn't worth it

we got him for a 3rd, he’s been playing for us like a 1st or 2nd. Unless it’s a damn good proposition, it makes no sense because we got more out of our investment than we put in.

No

People saying get a 2 rounder for cooley and no that’s not enough, at the least I would trade cooley for a 1 and 2/3. And we all know synder won’t trade Cooley because of the money cooley gets him

by washfan29 on Dec 11, 2009 12:32 PM EST via mobile reply actions

You’re not going to get a 1st for Cooley, and if he wouldn’t trade him then why was he willing to ship hom to Cleveland last year to complete the Cutler deal?

by pas493 on Dec 11, 2009 3:09 PM EST up reply actions

If we could get a 2nd round pick

for CC, then I am for it. It makes us younger and more athletic, and could also help to change the identity if this team. Football is a business, and we all know this. We all love Cooley, and what he has ment to this team, but the team has some greater needs than to have 2 dynamic TE’s fighting for playing time. Think of what we can add to the team with two 2nd rd picks…………… I’ll give you a hint………………OFFENSIVE LINEMEN!!!!!

or .......

another WR and TE! Don’t 4 get we wouldn’t be inthis predicament had the FO gone your way in the 08 draft when we had 3 2nd rounders!

I say No, too

Dirtiest 2 TE sets coming next year.

Yes!

Zorn is too stubborn to see this…or use it effective

by dr WNC on Dec 11, 2009 1:06 PM EST up reply actions

yes/no

he wasn’t really given a chance to step up until Cooley went down. And when he did get a shot, he caught a case of fumbilitis and the hops.

SpotieOtieDopalicious

by Rekka on Dec 11, 2009 1:26 PM EST up reply actions

But we stuck with him

and he traded fumbles for TDs without so much hops.

I’m not sure, but I think that’s called (sshhhh)…“player development”. (you didn’t hear this from me, cuz it’s a huge secret and if Danny finds out he will trade Davis and give away another 2nd rounder to boot).

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

Blocking too….wow!

It this something new?

by dr WNC on Dec 11, 2009 1:38 PM EST up reply actions

Is player development

Even allowed on this team? I think Davis may be breaking a rule by actually becoming a better player as he garners more playing time. Same for Thomas actually.

by bigrm18 on Dec 11, 2009 1:44 PM EST up reply actions

player development

doesn’t exist within this organization. All we did was steal players from other teams and put them in DT’s and FD’s jerseys.

Stop trying to spread conspiracy theories ScottE. Shame on you!

I disagree

I saw “PD” on a wristband once. It was stapled to Zorn’s forehead.

SSSSSHHHHHHHH!!!!

Can’t we call it grooming trade bait so no one in the FFO knows we’re doing the evil “PD” thing?

+1000

thats my argument, Zorn never gave the young guys a chance until injurys forced him too, so we all were calling them busts when in fact they were never able to show what they had, and it now seems, they had quite a bit to offer

Leadership

I’m not so sure we can lose Cooley being he seems to be one of the only leaders on this team, esp on offense. He plays with some fire and emotion that at times has sparked this team. If he is gone, there is going to be a big void there…what is this team’s identity again?

by liger99 on Dec 11, 2009 1:53 PM EST reply actions

How do you know? You don’t know who would step up and what the locker room dynamics are. Everyone said that when BDawk left the Eagles and last time I checked they were 8-4.

by pas493 on Dec 11, 2009 3:11 PM EST up reply actions

I know that cooley plays hard and gives 110%…and he does not take plays off. I don’t know if he is a vocal leader and from what I see I don’t see one on the offensive side, so losing even a leader-by-example like Cooley would be big. Who would be left Portis? There is a reason we are playing harder now that Portis is out.

Broncos are the #3 D now…were #29 last year. Philly has gone from #3 to #7 and seem less dominating to me without dawkins….there is really no way to dertermine that tho it is just IMO.

by liger99 on Dec 11, 2009 4:46 PM EST up reply actions

I'm not so sure about that

I remember Cooley being on Redskins Gameday I believe, and he said that he isn’t one of those “rah rah” guys and doesn’t even get into the huddle when guys are hyping each other up before the game. Cooley is definitely a great guy, but I wouldn’t say he’s a leader on this team. I’m not even sure if I would say that Cooley did anything all that differently than what Davis is doing on the field right now.

by bigrm18 on Dec 11, 2009 3:30 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

I think he is more popular as opposed to being a leader

Afterall, he is a goofball.

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

by Scott E on Dec 11, 2009 4:19 PM EST up reply actions

My comments should have been more geared towards the teams lack of leadership. I’d pay good money to see JC grab someone who screwed-up by the facemask and let them hear about it…I’d like to see JC take charge on the field more. But it looks like JC is gone next year, so losing Cooley as well would be bad. Right now there is no offensive identity and that is part of the problem.

by liger99 on Dec 11, 2009 5:05 PM EST up reply actions

I don't trust this team to draft anyone worth a damn with whatever we get for him.

I say keep the known quantity. If we had a good draft record and a good eye for talent, I say blow the team up. But we don’t, so lets stick with who we know is good.

by CarverM on Dec 11, 2009 2:48 PM EST reply actions

A reasonable facsimile

of my argument for keeping Zorn.

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

by Scott E on Dec 11, 2009 3:02 PM EST up reply actions

Well, with the risk of turning this into another Zorn thread,

its arguable whether we know Zorn is ‘good’ considering he is 11-17… but, we know the players respect him to some degree and will play hard for him. At this point, unless we can get Russ Grimm, I am inclined to agree with you. After the season is over, we should be able to straighten out this playcalling situation a bit as Spermin’ Sherman learns our running game as well.

Agreed.

On ESPN today they had a interesting discussion about ..

the Cleveland Browns playing hard for the Coach(Mangini) that most players don’t like or for their on pride and each other ??

Just some food for thought ……

Loyalty

Trading one of our most popular & productive players makes no sense. He has always played hard & been a positive influence in the locker room. We might get a good player in return but there is also a decent chance that we get a bust. We have the draft picks we need, use them wisely, keep the players who are playing with heart, get rid of the ones who aren’t. Let this team, with this coach develop instead of “blowing it up” as we seem to do every two to three years. Be loyal to the players who have always given us everything that they had every Sunday.

by ENsDad27 on Dec 12, 2009 10:31 AM EST reply actions

It doesn’t make sense? This is football it makes plenty of sense! You just highlighted the problem here, we shouldn’t keep players b/c they are popular and a big name. If we traded him and got a 2nd or 3rd round pick then it would be money!

Look at the Patriots, pretty good front office? They’ll get rid of anybody and still win! Vrabel, Samuel, Vinatieri, and it goes on and on.

by pas493 on Dec 13, 2009 12:27 PM EST up reply actions

I disagree

I don’t think that I said to keep him because he was “popular & a big name” . I think that it is foolish to trade him for a second or a third round draft choice, name me the player that you believe we will get in the second round that is a superior player to Chris Cooley.

by ENsDad27 on Dec 13, 2009 8:34 PM EST up reply actions

He doesn’t have to be superior to Chris Cooley! He needs to fit our needs, we are playing better now b/c we are playing as a team. And last time I checked Cooley was a 3rd round pick.

How can you compare, you don’t know what the hell you are going to get, but its worth the risk to fill a need and become a complete football team.

by pas493 on Dec 14, 2009 1:14 PM EST up reply actions

No we shouldn't

Why even think of messing with something that seems so good. Our passing offense would be crazy good if he still plays well after he recovers. And most of the time when a team trades one of their best players its usually either because of money or that player is extremely unhappy.
