Dan Snyder Apologetic!?!?!
At a charity event (today?), Snyder let his guard down in a rare Q&A session with reporters, saying, "We've let everyone down, including ourselves, and we know that and we're just apologetic."
Hmmm....This is all I have wanted to hear from him as a start to making things better. Any chance this is followed by a Vinny Cerrato firing?

This is worse than I thought
He didn’t even really admit to having a problem, which means he’s not at Step 1 and not anywhere near recovery yet.
My favorites [SNARKY COMMENTS AFTER EACH]
- “And we hope to get it going soon. We’re disappointed.” [I HOPE YOU’RE MORE THAN DISAPPOINTED. APOPLECTIC, ENRAGED, SPITTING NAILS MAD — ANY OF THESE WOULD BE ACCEPTABLE. BUT DISAPPOINTED? REALLY? THAT’S IT, HUH?]
- “We are really trying very, very hard.” [IF ONLY THIS WERE THIRD GRADE, THAT MIGHT MATTER]
- “Everyone at Redskins Park, the coaches, the players, the organization’s really quite frankly held up well.” [GOOD, GLAD TO HEAR IT. WOULDN’T WANT ANYONE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ABSOLUTE DEBACLE TO BE SUFFERING ANY STRAIN OR HAVING A TOUGH TIME COPING WITH THIS “DISAPPOINTING” SEASON.]
- “And I think we have an opportunity the rest of the season to hopefully get it going.” [REALLY? AN OPPORTUNITY?]
- “We’ve blown some games that obviously we should have won.” [THIS JUST IN.]
- “And I think the players still believe and hopefully we’ll start this Sunday.” [REALLY? THE PLAYERS THINK THIS? WHICH ONES?]
- “We hope we can put together a good performance down in Atlanta and start a winning streak.” [YEA. THIS IS A GOOD PLAN. WE’VE GOT THE FALCONS IN ATLANTA, DENVER AT HOME, AT DALLAS, AT PHILLY, NEW ORLEANS AT HOME BEFORE GOING TO OAKLAND — WHO BEAT PHILLY. EXCELLENT PLAN. WHERE CAN I GO TO MAKE A WAGER ON THIS WINNING STREAK?]
I’m officially on the hunt for something to do on Sundays from here on out.

Remember when Hogs Haven wasn't just snarky comments?
I miss those days. I don’t even like coming to this site anymore. I blame online blogging, more than anything, for the drastic escalation of hatred towards a team starting the season 2-5.

did you really just blame blogging for fans being so angry at Dan Snyder?
Buzz Bissinger, is that you?

There's plenty of intelligent discussion that goes on here and on a hundred other blogs.
Your comment begs clarification, otherwise it’s just a shallow, aimless generalization.

Hogs Haven is just fine
If you think the fan hatred is directed towards the 2-5 team, then you certainly have your head in the sand. It’s been said a million times, this is a revolt against mismanagement of an NFL franchise for more than a decade. This is not about the 2-5 record!!!!

Management is the scapegoat.
For someone to blame when the team is not living up to expectations.
by SSBlitz on Nov 3, 2009 4:33 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
expectations
that were created by management and in retrospect, completely out of the realm of possibility given the roster assembled to meet them.

Just to clarify
Are you saying fans shouldn’t be fed up at the Dan Snyder way of doing things?

I don’t think he’s saying that, I think he is just harking back to when Hogs Haven was actually about football and it was fun to be here. Now 95% of stuff on here is about management and the state of disarray, with dumb posts one after another just trying to make a more humorous way to poke at management.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
your 2009 Washington Redskins!
It isn’t the blog that’s driving the focus on management; it’s the team. Plus, humor is good for you, especially in times like these.

I understand the frustration
I wish the Redskins played football that was worth talking about too. But that’s not where this team, franchise or fan base is right now.
Blaming blogs or fans for the malaise of Redskins commentary is a little misguided, I think.

It isn't the blogs
That’s as dumb as when management blamed things on the Washington Post. What is going on now is the boiling over of 10 years of the team being run terribly. Management isn’t being scapegoated. If this was happening and our management resembled that of a normal team then perhaps. This goes beyond that. The Skins have a big and emotional fan base and people are tired of their team being a punch line.
Keep it up Hogs Haven. Maybe this is the first tiny crack in the armor.

I, too...
had bought into the concept that we would have an awesome defense and would win many close games with a sound, but run-of-the mill offense that didn’t turn over the ball much. I guess me and Dan are just fricking geniuses – and surprised ones at that.
But then again….the O-Line or lack thereof comes back to haunt.

That would have happened, until the inevitable OL injuries
which everyone, including the Redskins own 2008 self-evaluation, saw coming.
Everyone except Vinny & Danny, that is.

There was more....
Per Greg Rosenthal on ProFootballTalk.com:
Redskins owner Dan Snyder broke his policy of not speaking during the season Tuesday when he addressed reporters at a charity event.
Snyder was asked about the team banning critical signs of late. He didn’t answer the question specifically, but did apologize for the team’s sorry season.
“We’ve let everyone down, including ourselves, and we know that and we’re just apologetic,” Snyder said.
It may not sound like much, but just those words could go a long way towards starting to soothe angry feelings among Redskins fans. The words echoed what Snyder said privately to Tony Kornheiser of all people in the owner’s box a few weeks ago.
Kornheiser told a story on his radio show that Snyder was “embarrassed” for Redskins fans, and Kornheiser encouraged Snyder to relay those thoughts publicly. It sounds like Snyder listened.
“I think number one I feel bad for the fans. I feel sorry for the fans,” Snyder said. “And we’re very, very appreciative of our great, loyal fan base. And I’m understanding; I mean, we just feel terrible. We’re disappointed and we’re embarrassed. And we hope to get it going soon. We’re disappointed.”

Just for shits and giggles
Is there anyone in-house who could act as interim GM if Snyder did fire Cerratto mid-season, God willing?
And I do realize that the guy who washes the players’ cars could probably do a better job than Vinny, I mean a current member of the organization.
by CarverM on Nov 3, 2009 4:39 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I’m sure it would be a scout or Director of Player Personnel or something, you don’t really have to do that much this late in the season as an interim.

Come on man, is it really that hard? If someone went down any one of us can look at the FA pool and point to who we want to fill in for a bad team. Hell Vinny does it every Monday. Its not that hard right now, like Levi Jones do you really think you had to be in the industry to make that move.
by pas493 on Nov 3, 2009 4:56 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
That's why I said for shits and grins
and proposed that we could discuss someone within the organization that might have potential for that type of position one day. No need for the condescension.

They have other puppets
I think Scott Campbell or Morocco Brown will be next in line if Vinny gets fired. They won’t go out and get a big name because they will all shun Snyder. These two guys are currently in the Politburo so it will be more puppets in the totalitarian regime that Snyder has created.

Well....
gosh darn. Won’t a winning streak seem real nice? I can’t wait. Then I can complain about how we “just didn’t get it going” for the first six games against the weakest schedule in the history of the league.
Somehow goes down like an $8 cheap domestic. Comes up pretty much the same, too.

thank you for posting the rest “shvd98z24” … Snyder was asked about the team banning critical signs of late. He didn’t answer the question specifically, but did apologize for the team’s sorry season … etc. I’m still not satisfied this is accountable enough, we need to keep pushing and galvanize the more casual Redskins fans to demand more from ownership in highly public & media-visible ways.

Geez
We’re starting to turn on eac other now. The fact is, it’s all the woes from the offense and mismanagement that has us where we are. Each week it’s the same exact result. We’re left with nothing but re-hashing the same old crap we’re all sick of. We have some good stuff coming down the pipe including an exclusive interview with theismann that Ken will be conducting. Once we turn on each other than the Cowboys fans win.

The FACT is Dan Snyder does not get it
It’s not Jim Zorn, It’s not a 2-5 Record it’s not this team
It’s a decade of Dan Snyder and mediocrity, but my words don’t provide the depth needed go read
DCPSR-Dan Snyder speaks-Simply fails to get IT
The anger resides at they very root of Dan Snyder’s ownership. No NFC East titles. No NFC titles. No Superbowl appearances. Not under Dan Snyder. The only thing we get are very high priced veterans looking for the big pay day and an easy training camp. Combine that with poor drafting and it all leads to a team that consistently is ‘talented’, but fails to play talented football. A team with ‘names’ but no character. A team with ‘starts but no depth. In other words, a decade of hope, a decade of fans overestimating the talents, a decade of mediocrity, on a good season.
And for those game day experiences:
The organization itself is sick. It is dysfunctional. The way it is run and operated. The way it was built. The poor drafting record. The Snyder involvement in personnel matters. The signing of huge contracts for players coming just for a pay day. The overpricing of veterans who simply don’t gel or fit into the current scheme. The failure to build a scheme. The failure to maintain any sense of stability. The rotating door on coaches. The high prices combined with a poor product on the field. The legal action against season ticket holders. The stupid tailgating rules. The awful game day experience. The atmosphere where some players are too close to ownership and fail to have respect for coaches. The lack of a professional GM. And recently the humiliation and lack of respect for a human being, like Jim Zorn.
Go read it all, it sums up the feeling for me 100%!

Yeah that's pretty much it for me to at about 90%
The other 10% is absolute hate towards Snyderatto. Apology NOT accepted from Dan because it’s not going to change much. He’s proven he knows absolute dick about football.

Nicely done Mark
I thought you guys summed it up pretty well there. I just have this gut feeling that at some point, something has to give…there would be dancing in the streets if Vinny was fired.

It's going to happen....
Snyder knows it will win back his popularity and $$ from fans…problem is, I really think he’s going to bring in Bruce Allen and Jon Gruden who destroyed the Bucs. If you recall, there are people in Tampa that were willing to trade Bruce for Vinny….that is pretty bad.
by KevinE on Nov 4, 2009 7:31 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Coaches bringing in GMs doesn't always work
You have to look at Mangini bringing in Kokinis in Cleveland to see that coaches bringing in a GMs doesn’t always work. Gruden bringing in Bruce Allen would be pretty much the same thing. the only thing that will bring us is more mediocrity.
by killianskid34 on Nov 4, 2009 8:30 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
There is a chance of that happening
There needs to be a clear pecking order. Owner – GM – Coach. Each held accountable by the upper. It could turn into the same situation their now. Vinny and Dan always holding each others hand hasn’t worked because no one can fire them. GM and Coach can essentially have the same effect while convincing the owner.
It needs to be that everyone needs to know their on the hook at all times for the job. But I fully condone 3 – 5 year plans with all coaches who have the proper personnel.
by skinsymets on Nov 4, 2009 8:52 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
It doesn't always work
But nothing is foolproof.
Having a traditional football hierarchy is by far the smartest way to try to build a winning football franchise.

people rotate jobs around the league for millions of dollars and yet, wouldn’t get past the scrutiny of my little ol’ company’s dept manager during annual review (passing out a pittance of a raise, I might add)? I don’t expect the world to be fair, just not criminally insane.
