Live Game Thread: Redskins @ Eagles

Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles, Nov 29, 2009 1:00 PM EST

I do not have a good feeling about this game. We've seen how effective the Redskins pass rush is without Haynesworth and with Hall out, McNabb is likely going to pick the D apart. It's fitting that Mr. Snyder's most expensive free agent acquisitions are all out for a big NFC East game.

We'll do another giveaway today. Whoever can guess the correct winner and closest to total points will win the Karl Mecklenburg book we recently reviewed.

OK, perfect

now take shot in the end zone FIRST DOWN

Wow

Why do u risk giving the worst offense in the league ball in their own territory?

by Kevin Ewoldt on Nov 29, 2009 1:05 PM EST via mobile reply actions

because it's

the worst offense in the league ball

I agree

He’s the space-eater we need in there right now to stop the run. Maybe Blache will catch on before the 2-minute warning of the 4th quarter…

hate seeing

Haynesworth in street clothes. Gives all the doubters fuel.

by CJHutch on Nov 29, 2009 1:21 PM EST reply actions

He was healthy when it counted

We just didn’t get it done…No need to rush him back…except for the finale against the cowgirls. he has to make that game.

If it wasn't for that

there wouldn’t be any doubters. Man’s a hell of a player, but needs to be on the field to earn that monster contract.

this is football

injuries happen. You can’t evaluate him on his contract, you evaluate him on his play

And he's not playing now

Don’t get me wrong, I’m rooting for the Skins wholeheartedly today. Not just for the standings, but I’m playing against the Eagles D. So I want you running up the score here, and having fat man on the field would help that.

He’ld just be another overpaid DB who can’t tackle.

by superjuan on Nov 29, 2009 2:29 PM EST up reply actions

I meant he’ld be that on the Skins… at least he’s with the Eagles. Unfortunately, the porous O-line and Campbell’s questionable throws make it easy for Samuel to do the one thing he can do well, poach those routes.

by superjuan on Nov 29, 2009 2:32 PM EST up reply actions

Maybe

But he’s also the best corner in our division.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvIX3S0f-2c&feature=player_embedded

by VA_Skin on Nov 29, 2009 2:31 PM EST up reply actions

I’m not a Samuel fan. As you can see clearly in this game, the guy pads his INT stats against bad O-lines and QBs. Against good competition I wouldn’t even say he’s the best CB in Philly (Brown doesn’t get all those INT but he doesn’t give up as many yards).

by superjuan on Nov 29, 2009 2:47 PM EST up reply actions

I'm not a fan either

But that’s because of the colors he wears every Sunday. The few Iggle games I’ve watched, Samuel has covered the opposing team’s #1 receiver and he seems to shut his guy down. He has more passes defended and more INTs than Brown. He’s faster than Brown. The only thing I would say Brown is better than Samuel at is tackling. But it’s honestly tough to evaluate corners properly without considering a wide range of variables.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvIX3S0f-2c&feature=player_embedded

by VA_Skin on Nov 29, 2009 3:03 PM EST up reply actions

Like I said, he’s good at getting INTs against bad teams (his only INT against an impressive team was the Giants and Eli Manning… and considering how the Giants are playing now, that’s not saying much) and he has more pass defenses because, as you said, he lines up against the other team’s #1.

Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s good (those INT make up for the relative lack in coverage skills), but I just wouldn’t trust him against a good O-line and a good QB because he just doesn’t get INT against good teams.

I

by Knubles and Bits on Nov 29, 2009 2:31 PM EST up reply actions

sure

but playing with a guy in your face at the snap doesn’t help anyone’s decision making. I’m not placating Campbell, but nobody can succeed from their back.

Zorns horrible clock management finally helped us

If he hadn’t wasted 50 seconds of clock time Philly would have had time to get a TD instead of a FG. FML

At least we are doing well on third and longs, because we keep ending up there.

by Knubles and Bits on Nov 29, 2009 2:55 PM EST reply actions

I love how earlier this year DT and MK were being called busts. Who would have guessed that they could be productive if they only got to play?

by Knubles and Bits on Nov 29, 2009 2:56 PM EST reply actions

Called that by the pesimists.

Realistically, WRs should never be considered a bust after 1 year.

by SSBlitz on Nov 29, 2009 2:57 PM EST up reply actions

Well, not that I expected anything but a run on first down.. but it was nice to see them take it wide for once.

by superjuan on Nov 29, 2009 2:56 PM EST reply actions

what happened to the fade?

it worked earlier, and this is where you call it

by CJHutch on Nov 29, 2009 2:57 PM EST reply actions

This might be illegal forward pass?

by Knubles and Bits on Nov 29, 2009 2:57 PM EST reply actions

I wouldn’t even call it close. Remember he has to have every part of his body cross the line of scrimmage for it to be an illegal pass.

I refused to celebrate until that extra pt snap.

by Boo. on Nov 29, 2009 2:58 PM EST up reply actions

I was nervous because the blue line of scrimmage that is usually on the screen picked a great play to not show up on. Or at least I didnt see it.

by Knubles and Bits on Nov 29, 2009 2:59 PM EST up reply actions

He was mostly behind the line

that was the best drive I’ve ever seen Campbell orchestrate. He’s building some confidence for next year when he’s the Bills QB after the Skins draft Clausen.

Campbell is on pace for another 3000 yd season and I think that was his 12th or 13th TD pass on the year. He puts up solid numbers and he needs a chance.

well, the second one was just before the end of the half and led to their field goal.

it really resulted from the weak O line which held for maybe 1 sec before jason was hurried

by superjuan on Nov 29, 2009 3:15 PM EST up reply actions

I think the play makes sense.

by SSBlitz on Nov 29, 2009 3:18 PM EST up reply actions

At the 40 yard line. Even if you don’t get it, it’s a high percentage chance of mid yardage against cover 3.

by SSBlitz on Nov 29, 2009 3:19 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I’ll agree that situationally it’s a good call, but I don’t like it against this Eagles team (who has stopped the screen pretty well so far). Besides, Zorn seems to call screens whenever they’re at 3rd and longer than 10.

by superjuan on Nov 29, 2009 3:28 PM EST up reply actions

4-5 plays decide almost all football games

this one is no different

remember when we used to win…we owned the 4th qtr and would ram it down their throats

now we are on the opposite end with our head spinning like we were almost there

by les boulez bomber on Nov 29, 2009 4:03 PM EST reply actions

Unfortunately no,

I don’t remember winning. It’s been far too long.

C'mon Barnes

by CJHutch on Nov 29, 2009 4:04 PM EST reply actions

by VA_Skin on Nov 29, 2009 4:04 PM EST reply actions

well..if the O line were good…we would be threatening to score with time running out and the prevent would not come into play until later

by les boulez bomber on Nov 29, 2009 4:04 PM EST reply actions

Too bad Barnes doesn’t know how to jump a route.

by superjuan on Nov 29, 2009 4:04 PM EST reply actions

I swear to god

our games are scripted. It’s like the WWE.

by CJHutch on Nov 29, 2009 4:05 PM EST reply actions

this was set up for one long end game winning drive by us…but we could not move it…cant run block when we need it and very rarely can pass block for more than a couple seconds….so phil assumes that position

by les boulez bomber on Nov 29, 2009 4:05 PM EST reply actions

We never

stick to what’s working. They could barely move the ball and now it’s wide open for em

have you been a Skins fan

long enough to remember Norv Turner running David Akers outta town here?

by CJHutch on Nov 29, 2009 4:09 PM EST up reply actions

Just a quick SB Nation lesson…. Instead of just keeping the thread going, hit “reply” under the comment you want to reply to. That makes it a little more organized

Fehr is fair, but I like Laich

Oh ye of so much hope.

by superjuan on Nov 29, 2009 4:10 PM EST up reply actions

ok..second chance
lets see if this line can protect long enough to give the offense a chance

by les boulez bomber on Nov 29, 2009 4:10 PM EST reply actions

The key to a 2 minute drill is protection… and that’s exactly what the Skins suck at.

by superjuan on Nov 29, 2009 4:11 PM EST up reply actions

I bet it stays penalty free… and it definitely doesn’t go to overtime.

by superjuan on Nov 29, 2009 4:11 PM EST up reply actions

that was a good attempt- any shorter and intercepted

by les boulez bomber on Nov 29, 2009 4:12 PM EST reply actions

I wish there was a stat for passes overthrown. JC would dominate.

Good effort Snydkins

You have to hate losing more than you love winning.

by Mr MaLoR on Nov 29, 2009 4:16 PM EST reply actions

Isn’t there another Ravens loss you should be watching?

by superjuan on Nov 29, 2009 4:19 PM EST up reply actions

it was a good effort

by an extremely undermanned team. Something the underachieving Ravens could learn from.

by CJHutch on Nov 29, 2009 4:20 PM EST up reply actions

this was another good effort…they are playing hard and much better

the team is poorly assembled and their weaknesses get exploited in crunch time…cant blame them for that

someone needs to tell vinny and danny that u need to field all positions with quality starters and backups

u cant just grab superstars- who inevitably get hurt- and leave gaping holes in the offensive line

by les boulez bomber on Nov 29, 2009 4:18 PM EST reply actions

Frankly

I couldn’t ask for any more out of our offense given all of the injuries we’ve had. 24 points is stellar from this group if you ask me. We are getting everything we could expect from this offense given the circumstances. Putting up more points per game than the starters did when they were healthy and against better opponents.

by Kurtstack on Nov 29, 2009 5:34 PM EST reply actions

Defense

Unfortunately our defense has no idea how to protect a lead.

by Kurtstack on Nov 29, 2009 5:35 PM EST reply actions

i just dont agree the d is the problem…we went three and out twice with under 7 min left in the game and a chance to win…u just cant keep em out there against good teams

by les boulez bomber on Nov 29, 2009 5:41 PM EST reply actions

Good Defenses

Win games with an 8 point lead in the fourth quarter. Not the problem but certainly not a bright spot either.

by Elaw6 on Nov 29, 2009 5:46 PM EST reply actions

So much

For Levi Jones being the answer at LT. He was a turnstyle for the Eagles RE which made it nearly impossible for us to move the ball. Amazing we scored 24 points in spite of his poor performance.
