Did anyone catch this in the Skins/Boys game?

I did not see it , but just saw it on an article with Wade Philips... The Cowboys actually caught a break from the officials against the Redskins. Replays show that on Dallas' winning play, two offensive linemen were down the field. An official nearby missed it because he was watching to see if quarterback Tony Romo crossed the line before throwing the ball. He didn't, so no flag was thrown. Asked if that came up with the league office, Phillips said: "No, because they weren't (illegally downfield). It wasn't called."

I was screaming at the TV over it.

Funny how Wade just dismisses it as no, because they weren’t. Can’t wait to get them in Dec. It’s going to be nice to either knock them out of the playoffs or out of a home field game.

by skinsymets on Nov 25, 2009 3:09 PM EST up reply actions

you have no chance of winning that game in December

why would you be looking forward to it? It would be like looking forward to Christmas morning when you know you’re getting coal or looking forward to a public stoning, just not something to look forward to.

by sduncan24 on Nov 27, 2009 6:07 PM EST up reply actions

Cuz the Cowboys....

played such a great game against us?? We look forward to these games because Cowboys fans don’t! They don’t because we always play them tough…..it’s a division game! Why do you guys look forward to the playoffs???? It’s like a girl looking forward to her High School prom when she knows she is going to trip and fall walking in the door! Good luck with Romo!

by shvd98z24 on Nov 27, 2009 10:32 PM EST up reply actions

I always look forward to this game

because I get a ticket from a good friend on mine with season tickets and I live in Redskins country so I still feel the hate. I never said the Cowboys played a great game against you guys, I never said I was looking forward to the playoffs, those are your words not mine.

You think you have a chance to keep us out of the playoffs (if that is where we are at that point)? You are crazy, the Redskins are in such disarray and will be playing “future” players by then. I will take Romo over your hoard of awful players any day. The sad thing is I think Campbell will be a good QB next year, for someone else and the Redskins will start over with a rookie or someone’s leftovers.

by sduncan24 on Nov 28, 2009 1:17 AM EST up reply actions

We are already playing "future players"...

and played tough. After watching that game…..how can you say we don’t have a chance of beating you in Dec??? I haven’t said we will……but we damn sure have a chance!!!! As far as keeping you out of the playoffs…..unlikely since you will have a decent lead in the East after we beat Philly tomorrow…..but we can hope to kill your momentum going in! We don’t have much to look forward to this season…..that would be a highlight!

ha

You think you have a chance to keep us out of the playoffs

Actually, you all have proven to be pretty efficient at doing this on your own. Anyway, to say that we don’t “have a chance” of beating you next time, after we played you to a near draw in your stadium is ridiculous. Do you REALLY think that, or does your hatred for the Redskins win out over your common sense?

by CJHutch on Nov 28, 2009 2:29 PM EST up reply actions

My common sense

says you played way over your heads and we played below par. I imagine the game will look something like the game in Washington last year when we were making a playoff push with you going nowhere.

by sduncan24 on Nov 28, 2009 7:06 PM EST up reply actions

obviously

no point arguing with you. For the most part, I’ve found that the people who get on SB nation are at least somewhat knowledgeable sports fans. And if one engages in a back and forth, they will at least be honest and realistic.

Do I think we are better than you all? Nope, not at all. But

you played way over your heads and we played below par

is an idiotic statement given the history of these two teams. Hell, forget about these teams, and focus on divisional football. For those of us who know what we’re talking about, division games are NEVER about the record. Yes, you all are playing much better than us this year. But our formula for outplaying you most of that game was nothing new. We kept pressure on Tony Oh-No, and we attacked your secondary. Not rocket science. But, again, all that aside. To just dismiss a close game between these two teams as one team “getting lucky” is a clear indication of a complete lack of knowledge of the history of the rivalry. Did you follow the Cowgals in 1989, or are you yet one more of these people who jumped on after ’92? Either way, check the old game logs, and tell me the ONE victory Dallas had that year.

oh yeah…

when we were making a playoff push with you going nowhere.

How’d that work out for you???

by CJHutch on Nov 29, 2009 8:12 AM EST up reply actions

There really isn't a point

because for the most part I just felt like throwing around blanket statements along the lines of my team is better, we will beat you, yada yada yada.

With that said, I stick to my statement that we played below par on offense, I never thought we were going to blow you out because the Redskins have a good defense but we played poorly and missed a lot of opportunities on our own without you.

You putting “pressure” on Romo did not force most of the errant throws and missed chances.

I never said the redskins got lucky, so I’m not sure where that came from.

I was not quite old enough to follow the 89 season, I was only 5, but I am well aware of the 1-15 team that beat the Redskins, my point is saying you will not beat us is that game, coming mid-season, did not keep you out of the playoffs. You beating us in week 16 and your claim that you will keep us out of the playoffs won’t happen. I used for example last year’s second match-up.

It didn’t work out well, but in a similar scenario, the Redskins not having anything to play for, and the Cowboys in the hunt we stepped it up and won.

by sduncan24 on Nov 30, 2009 10:37 AM EST up reply actions

oh, OK

you mean like you did against Philly last year?

Anyway, you can claim a subpar performance all you want. But if you do, I will be forced to remind you that we were playing with a savaged roster. Be realistic, would you expect to win a game, or even be close, without Ware, Barber, Felix Jones, Witten, Flozell Adams, and Leonard Davis? Cuz that’s the equivalent of what we were missing. Now, get this straight – I’m not using that as an excuse. Personally, I like that we played you all to a near draw without our best players. What I’m saying is that if you want to use that “we didn’t play our best” mantra, you have to be honest with yourself and realize the Redskins didn’t either.

by CJHutch on Nov 30, 2009 1:14 PM EST up reply actions

You are not missing

players near that caliber, don’t kid yourself. You don’t have a player on the roster in those positions, or similar ones, that match up with the guys you named. But to answer your question, I would expect a loss. I am being completely honest with myself when I say that with the players you put on the field, you definitely played just about as well as you could have hoped to, I don’t think you can honestly say that that group played below their abilities.

Oh, and the Eagles and Redskins are two different times with two different situations, I stand by what I said earlier, if we are in the playoff hunt, and need that game to make the playoffs, on December 27th the Redskins have no chance of beating us. NONE.

again

I don’t know why I’m arguing with you. You obviously have no grip on real world reality. You are just one more of these typical Cowboys fans who thinks their team is the be all end all. You say you are being honest with yourself which, if true, proves how out of touch you are. If you really think Cooley is not on par with Witten, you’re sick. At the time of his injury, Cooley’s numbers were BETTER than Witten. Portis (a pro bowler last year) and Betts were our 1 and 2 RB’s, Samuels is every bit as good as Adams, and you need to stop reading the fluff on Haynesworth if you think he doesn’t “match up” with Ware. Just 3 weeks ago, SI did a poll BY THE PLAYERS asking who the most dominant defensive player in the league was. Haynesworth was picked first by far, with Ed Reed coming in 2nd. Ware? He was 4th. Again, stop drinking Jerry’s Kool Aid, and come join reality.

As for your “playoff hunt” scenario. You copped out. You basically ADMITTED the lack of heart your team has.

Oh, and the Eagles and Redskins are two different times with two different situations

Yeah, the situation was, you needed to beat Philly to get in, and they needed to beat you to get in. What happened? You got SMOKED. Like I said, heartless in December. Hell, we should be FAVORED to win that game, unless you all are out of it already by then.

by CJHutch on Nov 30, 2009 8:27 PM EST up reply actions

I have plenty of grip

Cooley is not as good as Witten, you can think he is, but he isn’t, ask any NFL “expert”. Portis was a pro-bowler last year, and this year even when healthy looked like a shell of his former self (he also made the pro-bowl on a great first half and had a pretty poor second half of the season, which went along with O-line injuries). Samuels is not as good as Adams. I watch plenty of Redskins football, since I live in Virginia, and Haynesworth is not the player he was the last two years in Tennessee, he has played no where near his top level, but that is because he has always had issues with playing hard and taking plays off. He is very dominant, when he wants to be but he doesn’t look to “want” it but every other play he is in there.

Where did I cop out? If we are in the situation we were in two years ago, where the game against you meant nothing to our playoff standings, and we pulled our starters in the 1st quarter then of course all bets are off. You should review my “basic” admittance again.

Have things gotten so bad in Washington that you have resorted to talking trash about an Eagles win? That is sad my friend, we came up to see you last year late in the year, when you started 6-2 and came into your house on a playoff push and beat you. That is the game that affected you, so you should remember that one, not dream about how nice it would be to be an Eagles fan.

by sduncan24 on Nov 30, 2009 9:25 PM EST up reply actions

Win a playoff game.

Then talk smack. Because it’s been a very, very, very, very, very, very, very, LLOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG time since the Cowboys won anything meaningful. :-)

by williamhudsonlink on Nov 30, 2009 10:01 PM EST up reply actions

again

your judgement is clouded. My point is that you NEEDED the win against he Eagles last year, and couldn’t get it. Yet now you claim that there is “NO WAY” you will lose if you need the win this year. Exactly what makes this year any different than the last 15?

Now, for the rest of your clouded judgement. Cooley and Witten are COMPARABLE. You say "ask any NFL expert. Then you say that Haynesworth is not as good, when the “NFL EXPERTS” said he is. Again, your Cowboy love does not allow you to recognize talent on other teams, at least not on the Redskins. You say you “watch Redskins games”, well, if that was the case, you’d see the impact Haynesworth has made. He’s played here JUST AS MUCH as he played in Tennessee, when he made multiple Pro Bowls and earned the rep as the most dominant D-lineman in the league.
But, you have somehow skipped past my entire point. The point is that we were missing our best players, ALL PRO BOWLERS, and we still played you to a near draw. If you were missing HALF the players of yours I named, the outcome would have been different.
Oh, one more thing. your statement

Haynesworth is not the player he was the last two years

the same could be said for Witten, Ware, and probably Barber. If you just go by numbers and stats. But anyone who knows football knows that stats aren’t everything. The fact that Carter is having a career year EASILY shows the impact of Haynesworth. AMong other things.

Wade Phillips

there’s an article on ESPN of him complaining about officiating in the game against us.

It’s ridiculous, he’s complaining about how the officials messed up the call right before half time AGAINST US, then when asked about the o-lineman downfield he dismissed it like you all said.

i wish I could get this rule explained to me,

I’ve been told “down field” does not mean across the line of scrimmage. If engaged in a block it means five yards from the line of scrimmage and the linemen are given a two yard grace.

If that is true, that is nuts! How do you expect an official to call that?
