Redskins Sign Guard Paul Fanaika from Eagles' Practice Squad
Height: 6'5
Weight: 327 lbs
40: 4.23 5.23
A quick look at his scouting profile:
BIOGRAPHY:Three-year starter twice named honorable mention Pac-10. Spent most of his college career at right guard as a walk on at Arizona State. 7th round pick by the Eagles.
POSITIVES:Former walk-on who's shown a lot of ability the past four years. Blocks with good lean, quickly gets off the line, and immediately gets his hands into defenders. Stays square, jolts opponents with good hand punch, and rides them from their angle of attack. Seals defenders from the action with good body positioning, and turns them off the line. Plays with a nasty attitude, and looks to hit as many defenders as possible. Gets chips on linebackers at the second level, and flashes ability blocking in motion.
NEGATIVES:Haphazard in his movements and must improve his blocking balance. Adequate strength at the point, yet not overwhelming for such a large offensive lineman. Inconsistent effort and intensity on the field.
ANALYSIS: Fanaika possesses the natural size and underlying skill play at the next level, as either a guard or potentially right tackle. He must take his game to another level in all aspects to meet the expectations scouts have of him and reach his upper limit of a possibility.
Reading that analysis makes him the perfect project for Joe Bugel.

40 yard time is not 4.23
but rather 5.23. http://www.tfydraft.com/player_info.php?draftID=7112
Fanaika is about moderate speed for an offensive lineman.
The speed that counts is within 10 yards any how. Apparently he was not invited to the NFL combines. Quickness in the first step is important and we have no info on that.

Cant think of a better team to take their scout guys
watched them play Chicago last night and gotta say teh amount of quality youth on that team is scary, scary for us the Giants and the Cowboys, all their best players are young and have upside, I can see Phili dominating this division New England style for the next 5 years, hate to say it but i can see it
they draft for depth and they are not afraid to go young or let their guys learn on the job (see Justice. Winstone)

While I'm not upset about this
why do I get the distinct feeling that Vinny is slowly building a reason not to draft offensive linemen next year?

Is there a court in DC that would convict me
if Vinny were to have an ‘accident’?
As far as Fanaika goes, I like to read this:
Plays with a nasty attitude, and looks to hit as many defenders as possible.
Sounds like old-school Redskins football to me. I’m a fan. Let’s scour everyone’s practice squads for prospects at all positions. Bring ‘em in now, and we’ll know by April whether they have potential or not.

I hear there is a guy who played tackle in the XFL that currently weighs 525 lbs
I am on 24/7 ‘Vinny Watch’ outside his house.
Thank God Jared decided to start eating Subway subs, or else he would be on our team.

I think your instincts are right
“why do I get the distinct feeling that Vinny is slowly building a reason not to draft offensive linemen next year” – yeah, it’s what VC does. He obviously has no appreciation for the importance of the OL.

If the Skins can't draft capable Olinemen...
They might as well steal from the teams that do.
