new stat required
I used to beleive that Sacks were an overrated stat, and then I started to understand the game and realised how vital they were, by understand the game i mean understanding how the NFL is pretty much the only sport in the world where every single possession is important in a way, thats what makes it so great.
BUT
There is one place where the sack is overrated and that is when a first down still comes after the sack. like today when Griffin got the sack and then jones ran for 20 yards or something and we lost all the momentum the Sack had given us. The same thing happens in Tennis with breaks of serve, and John Newcombe always says a break is only a half break until you then hold serve the next game..... and thats what I propose for sacks... yes the player still gets the Sack regardless but the team should only get credited with the sack, when the whole team 'holds serve' and forces a punt of FG after the sack, could be called "Forced Kick Sack" or "Sack to change possession or something, still havent got the name worked out, but yeah after a sack the D needs to drive home the advantage and that is whay I think this stat would help to truly credit good D, rather than just rating all sacks as equal as currently happens...
Is this crazy??? what do you all think???

I think you will find that, generally speaking of course, sack generally result in a positive defensive stop. Not all the time….but you will find….defenses with higher sacks have a higher 3rd down success rate. I don’t think breaking down the stat line anymore is beneficial. I am sure there are people who keep similar stats just for comparison purposes….but I don’t see it beneficial to make this an official defensive stat! Just my opinion…….maybe the sentiment goes the other way!
well screw you then SHVD!!!!
LOL
Hahahahah, only joking, i am actually fairly certain that Football OUtsiders or something owuld keep it
Pommylee
It is definitely....
a worthwhile stat…….I just don’t see it becoming official. Good thoughts as usual Pommy!!!!
there you go
THINKING AGAIN. You obviously have way too much time on your hand. Feel like babysitting?
The bottom line is, ALL big plays are game changing, until another big play comes along. The onsides kick return. The Tryon interception. Jason’s scramble. All of those would have been big plays if we had won, but they didn’t matter in the end. People always talk about putting out the other team’s playmaker. Well, we’ve given concussions to the Uggles’ top playmakers BOTH times we played them this year. Once again, in the end it just didn’t matter. Until we learn what to do with success, we just won’t experience it.
