So this is what winning feels like. I remember now!

I could not help but notice a little extra fire in JC's eyes yesterday.  I had to ask myself a few questions that I'm hoping you all will comment on.

1)  Was JC a little bitter that Denver chose Orton over him?  When Orton made a big play in the first half, it seemed JC was trying to be more aggressive than he has been.

2)  Did someone teach JC how to move his feet, or did he really have that much more "Time"?  I kept referring to him as twinkletoes because I never saw him stationary.  He was always on his toes, and seemed to have a lot more pocket presence.

3)  Was JC's decision making better yesterday, or was the playcalling finally fixed?  He had a couple great scambles when things broke down.  It seemed like he really just came to play yesterday.

Kudos to Ladell.  Good game yesterday.  Why can't we get the ball into Malcolm Kelly's hands more.  He is a man-child!

I wanted to see a few things before the game,

I wanted to see the ball get spread around, which I did!
I wanted to see MK’s Awesome hands, Which I did!
I wanted to see DT make people miss, Which he did 4 times on 1 play!

Unfortunatly I saw something I didn’t want to see, a sweep on a short yardage play…. But it’s Monday and the skins had the only win in the division so i’m happy!

Also I noticed that myself and the three others I was watching the game with had forgotten how to cheer, we sat in silence for the entire first quarter waiting for something terrible to happen, luckly we got things turned around with the hunter smith TD pass, it sparked our fandom and clapping, hugging and jumping around soon ensued

man

the people I was sitting with were the same way (myself included). After we scored on our first drive, we were all just sitting there waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Well....

until they corrected the secondary looking like what happens when you kick an anthill, it was a totally emotional yo-yo. I didn’t know what to think except that I had hope. Yoder does it again! Another awesome TD catch! And it kept everyone on the team into the game.

Once the secondary settled down, then we started hitting on most cylinders – and of course the play with Hunter to Sellers with it being set up with the “fake confusion time out” (at least I’m sticking to the theory it was all orchestrated) that got me going. When Orton didn’t come out the second half and we were running the ball, I knew it was going to be a W.

Also,

I think Jason’s ankle was feeling better, which helped.

But...........

If he doesn’t learn how to slide, he’s gonna get hurt. That face first slide/dive was embarrassing!

I suspect

Jason’s first really cool Christmas present was a Slip ‘N’ Slide and he only went down it head first.

MK's hands

I pretty sure it was in the 3rd quarter, but he caught one over the middle, lined up the defender, and ran straight at him trying to run him over. I loved it, and want to see more!

My opinions.

1) I don’t think he was bitter towards Denver at all. That whole scenario was over-blown.
2) I think that extra second really does help Campbell keep his eyes down field. The other thing I noticed was that even when the pocket was collapsing, the linemen were still holding their blocks instead of whiffing and letting the defender by. Then Campbell can find open holes in the blocking to run through, if he needs to.
3) I’ve always been impressed with Jason Campbell’s decision making (with momentary lapses – he is human). I think this stronger offensive showing is largely a result of the cohension between Sherman Lewis and Jim Zorn (and somewhat Sherman Smith). To call the plays, and create the plays and scheme, everyone needs to be on the same page about what is trying to be accomplished. I think two (or three) weeks of chemistry has really helped the offensive coaching synergy.

I also think you could throw in.....

Levi Jones holding up at LT! Wasn’t a Pro-Bowl performance….but he got in there after nobody in the league wanted him…..just signed a couple weeks ago……and did his job! I questioned the signing….a la Mike Williams…..but feel much better about it now!

Make no mistake

while the secondary stories (Levi Jones, D. Thomas/M. Kelly, the emergence of the go-to-guy Fred Davis, Campbells continued ability to look very bad and very good within the same game) were nice, this game was about Ladell Betts and Rock Cartwright. They displayed more burst off the ball than we’ve seen from ANY of our guys all season. They both ran with purpose, and WANTED the extra yards. These things have been lacking all year. And I hope that when/if CP comes back, they at least let Betts get a couple of SERIES a quarter, and not just a few carries here and there.

I mean seriously, like I’ve been saying all year, Betts is A BEAST!!!

by CJHutch on Nov 16, 2009 2:54 PM EST reply actions

Portis or Betts ??

Why do you want Portis to come back? I am holding out hope that he is not able to play against Dallas. At this moment Betts is a much better back he hits the wholes much faster than Portis. If Portis plays alot next week the line will look like it has in the past. With Betts hitting holes like he was shot out of a cannon he deserves the start. Portis does not work hard in the off season that is why he stays injured. How can you say you work hard but walk around looking like your expecting a baby ?? Portis runs the ball like he is in quick sand this causes the O-lineman to need to hold their blocks longer.

by LETJASONPASS on Nov 16, 2009 3:25 PM EST up reply actions

Dont forget

I tend to agree to some extent that CP is not effective, but remember one of the reasons he is done (IF he is done, not 100% convinced of that yet, but nearly there) is that he put his body on the line week after week for this team, ackowledged as one of the best blocking backs in the business and being a physical runner just has to take its toll.

So I too want to see Betts get a number of series and a lot of carries, but I still think CP has earned enough respect from us to still be given the ’official start" even if Betts ends up getting equal or slightly more carries, CP has earned the right to be named a Starter.

Probably to sentimental of me in this “what have you done for me lately” league, but still thats the way I feel ‘at the moment’

Yes

you’re premise is correct, but you are also correct in that it is too “sentimental” to ust give Portis the start. He needs to earn it. Which means he needs to practice with the team, and prove on the PRACTICE field that he can get it done.

by CJHutch on Nov 16, 2009 6:31 PM EST up reply actions

I'm not saying

he’s done, but the best way to win is with the best players on the field at the moment, not the legends of old unless they are still forging their legacy. Portis has over 3000 carry’s, age doesn’t matter (see Ricky WIlliams), It’s age in terms of carrying the load and Portis is over the hill when it comes to the norm. I’d like to see him in a bit of a closer role, a fresh set of legs in the 4th quarter because it seems like betts needs to get into a rythym, while Portis can come in and go whenever.

by skinsfan28 on Nov 17, 2009 8:12 AM EST up reply actions

+1

But it won’t work if he’s been sulking on the sideline all game. He needs to accept his role…..not seein’ it, but if it happens, might work.

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

by Scott E on Nov 17, 2009 9:31 AM EST up reply actions

I don't

WANT Portis. I just know how this team operates. They don’t put the best performer out there all the time. They go by preference. And Portis has gotten more preferential treatment than any Redskins ever. Look, I know that CP has given a lot to this franchise. I think he probably sacrificed a hall of fame career to conform to “Redskins football.” And I’m not TOTALLY convinced that he is “done.” What I AM convinced of is that he has become so used to the pampering that this organization gives him, he has lost his edge. He used to want to prove people wrong about him, kind of like Gilbert Arenas. And he also used to be one of the top 5 backs in the league. The problem is, he STILL thinks he’s one of the top 5, when he’s clearly not. The problem now is, he has no interest in proving anyone wrong about it. If he did, he would be out there practicing and working with the rest of his teammates. Just like the TOP BACKS in the league do.

by CJHutch on Nov 16, 2009 6:29 PM EST up reply actions

maybe if this talk continues....

it could provide that edge back. It may be good that he is out and his back-up is outperforming him! He will hear the whispers….he will hear the reporters asking Zorn those questions today! Maybe that will revitalize him…..until next year!

by shvd98z24 on Nov 16, 2009 6:41 PM EST up reply actions

again probably too sentimental

but I found it encouraging that the shots I saw of CP on the sideline he was genuinly excited for the team and for Betts (they cut to him after some of the betts carrys in the extended highlights I saw) and this is a good thing I think…. positivity week and all may be influencing that view though …ha! :)

Another good point

I’d forgotten that. He did look seriously happy and supportive of the action on field. I’ll give him props for that, but my doubts per above remain until we see the new CP. Maybe he got the ‘tude kicked out of him last week….? Or he likes picking up a huge paycheck for watching….sorry, let’s stay positive here.

Yeah

it was good to see. He was superhyped when Devin Thomas made that catch-and-plow play. I still don’t see him accepting a backup roll, but hopefully he won’t cry like Carlos Rogers.

At least we ...

Can agree on something if not JC 17 !!! lol

I think Dallas is going to have

to work harder to play our offense now. Earlier in the year it was all stomp on Jason. Now they have to respect the run (with Betts) and this should allow Jason to feel more comfortable and hopefully show us how good you think he is. :)

interresting

just listened to McDaniels post game presser from the ’skins game, he opened by saying

“I’d like to congratulate the Chargers, Coah Zorn…..”

a lot of ppl on here made suggestions last week that we had a chance to win based on McDaniels maybe not taking us seriously enough, am I looking into this too much or is that significant that he accidently said Chargers
