O-Line or QB?? WWBD???
- That is probably the question that our FO will be asking themselves in April & with our record it will probably be a top five pick. It looks like Hogs Haven is pretty evenly split on which direction to go with all agreeing that O-line needs to be addressed but disagreeing on the 1st pick. Both sides have a very good argument with some very good QBs coming out this year (Claussen, Stafford, McCoy, Snead, Tebow & most likely Locker) on one side & the need to be able to protect whoever is behind center on the other. It is also a relatively weak year for O-line this year as well which also confuses the picture. IMO tho, it is crystal clear, this team needs a stud Left Tackle to anchor what should be a totally revamped Offensive Line. The Offensive Line is the multiplier on any football team, they make the QB twice as good if they can give him 4.5 seconds to throw or half as good if he only has 3 seconds to throw ( JC seems to have about 2 seconds ) They give the WRs more time to get open & bigger holes for RBs to run through. Great O-lines are Redskins football ( hence the name Hogs Haven ) & us having such a patchwork Line is ridiculous. We already have one of the young "can't miss" QBs in Colt Brennan & it would be nice to see what JC can do with a little time in a system that fits our team. A couple of years ago Bill Parcells was in this situation, he had the 1st pick & could have taken a QB, he took Jake Long over Matt Ryan knowing that a good Line will make a mediocre QB look good while a crappy Line will make an entire offense look like S%$T.

Really?
I don’t think I’ve read a single person on this board who advocated picking a QB in the 1st round of next year’s draft. Also, Colt was a 7th rounder who played his college ball in Hawaii… that’s about as can-miss as they come.
But you should start a poll and find out. I bet 90% of the folks on the board would tell you that if Russell Okung falls to us, we have to take him. If he doesn’t, our best move may be to trade the pick.
BOLA in 2010.
Yes...Really
I know that Brennans draft stock dropped after Georgia beat the crap out of Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl, but before that he was a Heisman candidate stud QB just like the ones I noted above. Every year there are stud QBs that fans & FOs think will be the bridge to the playoffs & beyond. Last year it was Stafford & Sanchez, next year it will be Bradford or Claussen or Locker playing for the Rams or Browns & getting drilled every Sunday. I also think that if any of those three are available when we draft that will be who we take which IMO is a mistake. I disagree with you about trading down for more picks, I think that we take Okung or Williams or my favorite, Charles Brown out of USC. It is a lean year for O-line, but maybe more Juniors than expected declare & it gets stronger. I agree with you on BOLA all the way tho I hope that our 1st four picks are O-line
I disagree about people on this board not wanting a QB, I think that most of the people who don’t like JC would like to see us take a QB.
I also think that Brennan has a lot of potential
If the FO hasn't offered JC
a contract extension by now, it’s not happening. I’d love to see Colt get a shot, and maybe he will regardless of weather we get a QB or not in the draft. I do however agree with ENsDad that the elite crop of OT’s in this years draft is very weak. Okung may be the only tackle worth a top 10 pick, and he could be gone before we even pick. The new coaching regime will certainly have a say as to what they will want in a QB. If there is a guy like Clausen or Bradford avaliable, I cant see us not taking them. There are some guys in the second round that may be worth a look at OT. If we can draft one of these players, and possibly sneak back into the late second, early third to grab another, we may be alright, assuming we grab at least 1 big name free-agent lineman.

After Sunday
I’m thinking it is a little too early to start making judgments about what to do in the draft – especially since, and I’ll be the first to say it, I think Zorn is going to end up here next year.
I will also say that Zorn is adapting his WCO to the more traditional Skin’s style and will be using the existing personnel to better effect. I’m not backing away from the fact that we need O-lineman, I’m just prepared to see JC as the starting QB at the beginning of next season.

And if that don't start any controversy....
don’t know what will.

WHAT??!!!!! Scott dude…… really? You know what… Here’s the deal… Snyder called me the other week and said that he liked some of the things I was saying on here. He asked me if I wanted to come aboard and be the interim Offensive coordinator thing… I was like nope… No way Danny boy…. I have to fill in at the BINGO parlor because some Sir citizen said he was going to do it then backed out… So im pretty much done for the rest of the season…..
Point is…. Scotty,,, that Zorn is not call any shots. None… He gets a couple of decisions a game… thats it. I doubt he is even setting the line up each week for the games… he is there still cause Snyder wants him to quit so he does not have to pay him what was promised and Zorn wont quit cause he wants what was promised…
Zorn is already gone…. He just has a really good seat.
what we need….
New staff from GM down…
2 rookie tackles, 2 vetted FA guards(280+lbs each)… and the fatest, strongest nose guard (300+lbs)we can find…
The Young receivers that we have need to be in an all post season training camp..(I will coach it in my back yard free of charge of course…
Im biting my tongue here but Campbell needs to get a one year extension until next draft at least.. He is good ENOUGH to get us through the next couple of years. During this time Colt needs to step it up and evoke the power of Peyton…
The way I have shown above gets us decent talent on the line with minimal drat picks.. Could get more picks for Randel. and maybe we could traid Scott E for more jock straps or something. Sorry SHVD we would trade you but it turns out your not worth anything. Sorry…

"When the rich wage WAR its the POOR that die!!!"
no worries milc
you have damn good opinions on a lot of things around here, and though I disagree with you on JC, I certainly respect your opinion because you put thought behind it, and can actually back up what you’re saying instead of relying on the old BS that our new friend Dave so eloquently put on display for us last night.

Awesome post, Milky
The only thing I’ve disagreed with was the fact that, if we continue to play well, I would expect that Danny would then be able to keep Vinny and keep Zorn – not saying I wish it or like it.
Zorn does more than not call the plays – like most HCs who don’t call the plays. Since he did not go thru the normal hiring process for a HC, we are finding out what he is good at and having to adjust accordingly- some say nothing, but… we found out the team plays better when he yells at them and someone else calls the plays.
I’ve posted before that we should keep JC for a yr or two – no argument there.
Don’t disagree with anything said after
what we needexcept that I’m good for a ton o’jock straps, IMHO. :)
