Mike Sellers and Clinton Portis Have Verbal Fight
No punches were thrown, but it was a heated altercation. Per Insider: While speaking with coaches, Portis requested to have blocking tight end Todd Yoder take Sellers's place in the backfield against the Buccaneers. Apparently, Portis's frustration stemmed for the ill-fated fourth-and-goal play in the 19-14 loss to the Detroit Lions on which Sellers failed to execute his blocking assignment, Portis failed to score and Detroit took over on downs."

I can understand the frustration
on CP’s side but it’s certainly not good news. But maybe the blocking will improve if people are held accountable when they miss their assignments.
Hmm
Sellers is still a talented NFL runblocker, whereas every time I watch Portis he looks older & older.
Hmmmmmmm
It's all Dan Snyder's Fault
I disagree, I really see a lot missing with Sellers. Its like he’s lost his mean streak and ferocious mentality. He’s been lit up a couple times this year and he struggles with catching the ball out of the backfield.
Portis is by far the best blocking back that we have.
I don't see him missing blocks, do you?
and pass catching isn’t really related to Portis’ criticism of him, or my analysis of who’s doing their job better.
It's all Dan Snyder's Fault
Yes,
I’ve seen him miss more than one key block already this season.

Did I hear
somewhere that Sellers may have a hamstring injury that is lingering; has anyone else heard that?
I remember...
screaming at the TV last week when Sellers caught a pass out in the flat and stepped out of bounds when approached by a DB. He could have blasted his way for another 4 yds easy.
I mean he must have had 160 lbs on the dude and ran outta bounds. That pretty much says it for this team; although I’m still hoping they will get their collective acts together. They are turning this season into a soap – As the Stomach Turns…..“Wait until next week when we’ll hear Coach Zorn say yet again that we are improving.”
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
I remember that
I think it’s the first time I’ve ever seen him do something like that
It's all Dan Snyder's Fault
I have $20 on Sellers
Even though Portis is thick, I think Sellers is just too big. No contest. Any takers?
Not me
Figuring a journalist asked multiple Skins in a Battle Royal where all the Skins are in a ring…who’d survive…most said Sellers.
was that question asked?
That is awesome! That had to be Steinberg. I can’t think of anyone who could beat him.
This is bad.
Note to Snyder and Cerrato: if you’re going to blow the team up, just do it. What you’re doing right now is messing with guys’ heads. No one on the team or coaching staff knows what to make of the situation, and so they’re fighting with each other and refusing to talk with reporters, and God knows what else that hasn’t been reported yet. I think it’s a bad idea to blow up this team, but since it’s pretty clear that you’re going to do it anyway, stop pussyfooting around and pull the trigger. I don’t think anyone in ownership/management knows what they’re doing, though. There’s no plan. At least we can say that Jim Zorn has a bad plan when he goes into these games. It’s a hell of a lot better than no plan at all.

Pointy haired manager speak
As soon as you said “I think it’s a bad idea to blow up this team” Snyder, being the pointy haired manager that he is, translated that to mean “hey, we should blow up this team” . :P
Pointy haired manager?
Is that a reference to something?

Some one explain how this adds up...
But the Sellers-Portis incident underscores the tension at the complex during a week in which owner Daniel Snyder hired an offensive consultant, Sherman Lewis, because of his dissatisfaction with the poor point production of Coach Jim Zorn’s version of the West Coast offense, and in which defensive coordinator Greg Blache, a week after emphasizing the need for personal accountability, informed team officials he no longer would answer questions from reporters – a mandated duty under NFL rules for all coordinators.
TimeLine:
Monday-Portis and Sellers have argument over what may or may not had been said on Sunday by Portis
Tuesday-Sherman Lewis Hired
Thursday-Blache stops talking
Very easy to see where Daniel Snyder’s hiring of an Offensive Consultant and Blache stopping his press conferences could be related, but to state the tensions were high on Monday which is what caused Portis and Sellers to go at each other is a lot misleading.
Tensions
I think the tensions are from Snyders hiring an OC consultant and the uncertainty that brings to the team. Anytime there is a change in management there is a (varying) degree of uncertainty that trickles down.
I see, my bad
I guess he’s just frustrated in general. Personally I think he isn’t the back he used to be and deep down he probably knows it – which would be frustrating.
It could get worse....
we could put Snyder in charge of the middle east peace process…and make him Ambassador to Iran. I mean, he is such a sensitive dude…and that glare should come in handy…
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
CP has a point but.....
that’s only one play. CP looks like he’s just about to turn 40 on most other plays. He looks like he’s running with his laces tied together. Want proof of this……..go back and look at footage of him just 2-4 years ago. You wouldn’t even know it’s him anymore. He is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT back now. So with that said I guess Snyderrato will give him an extra 10 mil a year until 2030.
On Portis’s and Sellar’s decline, this is what happens when you reward players with huge contracts towards the back of their careers, THEY QUIT playing!……….and it handcuffs the team for years to come.
According to Florio...
Sellers was probably knocked unconscious with a black eye and Portis had a busted lip and three teeth knocked out. And while trying to separate the two, Jason Campbell “inadvertently” punches Zorn eight times in the head. Meanwhile, Albert Haynesworth was kicked in the knee during this altercation and will be out for two seasons. There were four arrests and charges will be filed.
You thought
Our running game was bad at first? Imagine what it’s going to look like this Sunday.
I’m hoping and praying that this issue doesn’t linger on and negatively affect our game on Sunday. What if Sellers decides not to block the correct defender and lets that defender pile drive Portis into the ground? What if Portis decides not to follow Seller’s block and goes the wrong way, ending in negative yardage? However, it seems like that’s been going on anyway since the beginning of the year.
But still, I can’t see this having any positive connotations. It seems like EVERYTHING is just slowly but surely going downhill. Hopefully Snyder realizes that this team is self destructing and he decides to push the “blow it up” button this offseason and start from scratch. But we all know Snyder isn’t smart enough to do something so logical.
Imagine the passing capabilities if Yoder was in the backfield, though
It’s all a mess. The whole team is mediocre…too bad they can’t come together and be a team. blow it up.
Portis is Whack
Portis is probably right to be frustrated, but Sellers is the least of our problems. Portis doesn’t hit the holes quickly AT ALL…he trips over the painted lines on the field it seems like, and his YAC is terrible… Portis has not lived up to what he came here for…he gets a lot of yards every year, but they are not effective yards or crunch time yards….they’re just yards…. he hasn’t broken any big runs since his first run EVER as a redskin when he broke that 80 yd run…other than that… nuttin
He more often trips on TV added lines,
The Blue line
Always seems to come up short to the yellow or red line, must be afraid of those
Move along, nothing 2 see here.
Finally!! Some sort of emotion brewing from the offense. I’m hoping this incident will inspire Mikey Sellers to steam-roll Julio Peppers, paving way for 26 en route to 6
I can't believe Portis asked for Sellers to be replaced mid-game!
JReid said that a reporter who witnessed it said in a text message that it wasn’t all that bad, but if Portis is going behind Big Mike Jr.‘s back during the game, I can see why he would be pisssssssed. What a shit-show… One of the reasons why I’ve loved this team so much in the past is that there’s been zero drama. I can’t even put a positive spin on it with any sincerity… but I’ll still try:
At least we know these guys really care about doing their job right. They are trying to execute and of course its frustrating when Rabach is getting blasted back into Portis’ path, Cooley can’t seal a DE for 1000 peanut-butter, ham, and mustard sandwiches, Sellers blocks the wrong LB, and Clinton trips over his feet in the backfield to make it all a moot point anyway. I’d have more confidence in them being able to put it all together if the coaching ranks weren’t in such disarray.
Zero Drama?
Hey Boo! What team have you been watching for the past 10 years and at exactly what point was there zero drama? The Norv era was filled with drama…highlighted by the Michelle Westbrook beat-down of Stephen Davis. Then Marty took over and had the Jeff George fiasco and his own little “you’re fired” sitcom at the end. The Spurrier show was nothing but drama starting in Osaka with all of his cheap and available 2nd rate Gators. Gibbs took over and it was drama city. It started with Champ Bailey demanding out of town. So who did we get in exchange — Drama Queen 26 in the flesh who decided to skip out on DC workouts, not return phone calls and instead work out with his buddies at the U. Lavar Arrington had his contract squabble and subsequent mystery benching. Lav Coles got a free Plasma TV for complaining about all of the WO Screens he got. Clinton Portis bitched about the other team knowing our plays. Sean Taylor was murdered for Christ’s sake. Zero Drama? Zero Drama?!!! Good grief man! How can you say zero drama with a straight face? This team has been a disfunctional drama show since Gibbs quit the first time.

ZORN!
When Zorn says things like this…
When asked if all the things happening this week
“have created a perception that things aren’t going so well.”
Zorn Responds:
“Only if you [reporters] create that perception,” “There’s nothing in our locker room that would cite that:”
WHY THE HELL NOT! you are happy with not being able to score, the team is happy when a defense allows drives of 99 yards to occur. Everything is ok when you can’t get 1 damn yard.
Come on the preception in the locker room should be things aren’t going well BEFORE all the creations this week!
Wake the fuck up, Zorn!
I think
this situation would make a good sitcom. The 49ers are referring to Mike Singletary as Joe Clark, the principal who straightened out the thug-infused, underacheiving high school using a while carrying a baseball bat. Zorn is the ANTI Joe Clark. He’s the clueless history (maybe LITERALLY) teacher who can’t control the ruckus in his class and gets hit by spit balls whenever he turns around. How else do you explain his comments on the Sellers-CP thing?
“These guys love each other. They absolutely love each other,” Zorn said. "This is just how a team goes. I thought it was great. There’s no fisticuffs. There’s no shoving and pushing. These guys just, you know, ah, ‘You didn’t say hi to me.’ ‘No, you didn’t say hi to me.’ You know? I don’t know really what the discussion was.
His next 'speculation' on what the fight was about was
that one of them owed the other one a dollar. No joke.
All that is missing is Spurrier in those pictures.

They meant
that things aren’t going well in the locker room. Zorn’s just trying to say that, in his opinion, the locker room isn’t falling apart right now. Whether he really feels that way or not is hard to say, but we shouldn’t let this one incident (which might have occurred but not been reported had the team been playing better right now) convince us that the sky is falling (even though I acted like that when I first heard this).

Of course they fought
I would have fought too. Sellers missed his block and is as over-rated as full backs come. The guy has taken on local celebrity status because he runs a few people over every year. Big Deal. The fact is, he’s a worse blocking back than Clinton Portis. Unfortunately, Clinton Portis is a better blocker than he is a runner. I don’t know why people are just starting to mention that this guy trips over his own shadow. He’s been doing it for the last 5 years. The guy will get a little room and then fall down for no good reason. He hasn’t just started doing this…he’s done it since he came here. And this is in addition to his poor vision and inability to cut to the hole.
Bottom line, Portis isn’t good enough to get it in on 4th and 1 and Sellers isn’t good enough to open a hole to help Portis get it in on 4th and 1 and Jim Zorn can’t figure out a play that will work to get it in on 4th and 1. Did I mention that the offensive line is a joke? This entire team is hopeless. When can we start the rebuild?
