Well, we yam what we yam and that's all what we yam

I don't see spinach really helping us here, so I think it's time to face the muzack. No more booing after a 2 point win, no matter who it's to. No more Armageddon  attitude after losing to a bad team. This is us, take it or leave it. We can lament the owner, the coaching staff, maybe even the QB. But we need to start being happy with a win, no matter who it's against.

Star-divide

Will REAL coaching make us play better? Definitely. Would a respectable front office make our team better? Absolutely. Will our players showing the pride to step up and beat the man in front of them give us a better outcome? Of course. But the first two probably aren't gonna happen this year, and the third we have no control over either. What we, as fans, need to decide is if we are capable of cheering for a team that will play low scoring games, play to the level of their opponent, and need some serious breaks to make any sort of playoff run.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying any of this to make excuses. I was disappointed with how we played. But I am happy with the win. And if you're not happy with a win at this point, then you need to look elsewhere for a team to cheer for.

Maybe we're not that bad...

I was able to watch the second half ( lucky I missed the 1st half ) & if you missed it the Skins looked good, & I mean really good:o) Remember a couple of years ago, the Giants sucked & they were going to fire their coach & then they pulled off a big upset win & ended up winning the Super Bowl ( & no I am not saying we are going to win the SB ) but the boys did look good today, & they played with heart & yes JC did have three int.s but he played well & with everything he had. Go Skins… Win or Lose this is the team we Love

Back at .500!

Now let’s get it rolling!

I know I said I wouldn’t wake up early to watch this one, but I just couldn’t help myself. Was sure Campbell was going to get pulled after that first half, but somehow stayed in and threw 2 back to back TDs. That one to Santana was awesome! Some excitement is what we needed.

You’re right. We need to lower our expectations and accept that we will be a team who grinds it out every week no matter who we play.

Let’s grind it into the playoffs!

I enjoyed todays' game

That’s what the NFL is about…entertainment. And today, the Skins entertained. The offense played with enthusiasm and staged a second-half comeback (something new this year). The defense played aggressively and finally shut someone down on third downs. Made a nice defensive stand at the end of the game. All in all, a fun game to watch.

If the Redskins can entertain like today for the rest of the season, I’ll consider it successful. Wins and losses aren’t everything (did I just say that???).

Well, thank God for

Alzheimer’s, huh? What did you, forget the plays as they happened? I guess sometimes it is beneficial to be a relic.

I am happy with the win, but I’m not sure “entertaining” is the word I’d use for that 1st half. If I had hair, I would’ve pulled it all out by intermission.

TB's points

came off of Campbell’s turnovers. This was one of Campbell’s worst games with 4 turnovers. He was like a 4 cylinder engine running on 2 cylinders. The Portis picked up the running game some. It looked like he still had some moves.

There were some missed tackles on special teams. Cartwright missed at least one.

At this point, a win is a win.

by Jefferson1935 on Oct 4, 2009 6:26 PM EDT up reply actions

The fact that

Campbell came back strong after 3 first half turnovers to make some huge throws and big plays with his feet in the third quarter says a lot about his heart. The fact that the defense overcame those blunders to make some big plays themselves showed that they still have it. The fact that Shaun freakin’ Suisham stepped up in a big way to keep the punting from being a liability shows that…. I don’t know what it shows, but it sure was sweet.

And that last defensive play was perfect (JARMON!!! HORTON!!!) Man a win feels good.

Lighten up CJ

You’re right, the first half sucked. But the skins did some good things in the second half. And, I’d rather have a good second half and win, than a good fist half and lose. Been there, done that too many times.

Campbell threw 3 pics, but still led the team to scores when it counted.

The defense looked like shit against the run in the first half, but stiffened and held TB in the second half.

And, as for the Alzheimers, I really am doing much better. The docs say that with a little luck, I may be able to leave the home on weekends.
Oh, yeah…if ya need hair, I got some to loan. It’s grey, but it’s there!

by grandpa grouse on Oct 4, 2009 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm light

don’t get me wrong, I was just saying that that first half was hard to watch. The 2nd half has me a little giddy at this point. Sure, it was just the Bucs. But if there’s anything we’ve learned over the past several years around here, it’s that we have to take every team seriously. So the fact that we battled back 16 down while shutting out a PROFESSIONAL team makes me happy.

Was I upset with Campbell’s performance? Of course. But I was happier with his 2nd half performance than I was upset with his 1st half debacle. While I readily admit that JC has his faults, that game proved his resolve. He showed the ability to make plays when many QB’s would have crumbled or packed it in after playing so awful in the first half. All the JC haters who want to chide him for his 4 turnovers – fine. He deserves it. But you have to be equally willing to praise him for the comeback, realizing that PLENTY of NFL QB’s have had awful performances, and not all of them are able to bounce back IN GAME and pull out the win.

A PLAYOFF RUN

This team is not going on any playoff run. Yes I’m happy with the win but I think it’s delusional to believe that this team is going on a playoff run. Especially after what I witnessed this afternoon. Do you realize how tough our schedule get’s after the Kansas City game. I hope I have to come on hear and eat some crow but I JUST don’t see that happening. I also know that the current status of our front office ineptitude has been beaten like a dead horse on HH but this teams future seems grim. I hope I’m wrong and a win is a win, I guess.

by jamie21224 on Oct 4, 2009 6:35 PM EDT reply actions

The FO is grim but the Redskins are showing some nice young talent, even a 2010 draft pick. What other team can say that?

by dr WNC on Oct 4, 2009 10:06 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Not many teams

on your schedule will give you the luxury of allowing three sacks, allowing your QB to throw 3 picks and lose a fumble and still pull off a win

you guys don’t look very good. With that said, you’re tied for 3rd in the division at a respectable 2-2 and only a half game behind us…

The season’s a long way from over, and if you guys can rally for the rest of it, like they rallied for the 2nd half you have the potential to be competitive.

"What did it feel like? That collision, I didn't feel nothing, because he was pretty much defenseless. It was like running through a cardboard box. Seriously. Cardboard box."- Sheldon Brown on his pounding of Reggie Bush in the '06 Playoffs

Yes, We ARE what We are

And a WIN is a WIN, The Redskins are 2-2 and could sneak into the playoffs because they are the middle of the pack. Hopefully, we are seeing the continuation of playing down to their competition.

The reality is as CJ states, A REAL NFL coach will make a difference, but again it will be starting over for the Redskins to build continuity. The FO and VP are not changing I’m sad to say, but if they can stay focused on the younger players and stop chasing the big name FA, there is hope. Jarmon, Orkapo, Horton, Tyron, Kelly and others are coming around and playing well. Redksins will remain a middle of the pack team until the coaching and players establish continuity and build a team, instead of building a one year wonder and hope

by dr WNC on Oct 4, 2009 6:43 PM EDT reply actions

I have to give it to you CJ

You said we should run the ball and stop throwing so much and look what happened. Granted, Campbell looked abnormally bad today, but I was impressed overall with our run blocking and with Portis— he looked a lot more like himself toady.

I thought to myself, “here we go again” in the first half with the offense and defense looking like crap, for the lack of a better term. However, the offense and defense came out firing in the second half, specifically the third quarter. I just don’t understand why we can never come out and play a complete game and why we always play down to our competition’s level.

Call me crazy, but I could see this team getting on some type of streak and getting hot. It’s not too far-fetched to think this team could get wins against the Chiefs and Panthers and even the Eagles. You never know…
I’d rather us start off bad and end up being good than being good in the beginning and end up being bad in the end (like last year).

Almost as good as a win is the fact that Dallas lost (which I thought they would do).

YAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

actually

I agree. But we have to stick with MY plan. :-) (that’s my cheese-eating grin for always being so goddamed right)

In all seriousness, that’s an easy call. It seems to be a recurring theme with us (aggravatingly so) that we open the year intent on becoming the 70’s Chargers, then come back to Earth a few games in and realize that we do better running the ball, or at least with a balanced attack. The year of the “Sean Taylor run.” That was done after re-committing to Portis. (NOT because of Todd Collins) Same with Gibbs’ first playoff run. That’s our identity. That’s “Redskins Football.”, I don’t care WHO the coach is or WHAT kind of system he tries to bring in. Samuels, Dockery, Rabach, and even Rinehart – they’re all road graders. (Heyer? not so much) It’s time we accept that fact and use it to win some games.

No, we are not very good RIGHT NOW. But try looking at your Supersize Value meal soda as half full. We tried the "coming out of the gates guns-a-blazing approach last year, and look where it got us. Now we’re NOT too full of ourselves, meaning maybe the team will actually keep trying to get better DURING the season. Even your drive thru manager knows that the best teams peak around November. There is still the chance that we could be looking at these last few weeks as building blocks. You have to taste defeat before you can WANT victory. Think of it as starting out as the fry cook, then moving to the cash register. You KNOW you don’t want to go back to that deep fryer, grease spitting out and burning pock marks in your already ugly-enough mug all day. So once you get a taste of that register (not to mention the few extra bucks a day you pocket instead of ringing up those apple pies), you don’t wanna go back to that fryer. Maybe that’s what will happen to this team. NOW to you understand??

Every game……including the Super Bowl. Don’t jump me….not saying we are going to the SB……just saying….if we win every game by 3 points…..I am fine with that. A win is a win. Will there be an asterick by our win in the Football records book bc we couldn’t demolish anyone? I don’t think so! This is the tune of the Day...however

Tampa is as bad as their record. And as bad as the Redskins played in all (4) FOUR games this year, which game did they have no chance to WIN…In my opinion none!
So, be it the Giants, Rams, Lions or Tampa the Redskins were in the game and could have pulled out a win or a larger victory.
And be it Carolina, KC, Eagles or Atlanta the Redskins will be in the games with a chance to win. If they go 4-0 it will be no better than going 2-2 during the first 4 games. It’s the way the REDSKINS ARE PLAYING, and being coached.
