Where were the delay of games?
All I heard all week from cough, cough GeoFly, Scott E, poopo, smuts, etc. is how many delay of games that we were going to get and how chaotic the play calling was going to be, along with stupid bingo jokes all week. Where was the chaos? Was it b/c they used a number system with an armband!?!?!?! Who would of thought...
Anyways I think its time to let the youth play! Fred Davis had his best game of his career, Cooley is done for the year (I would imagine). Give me some more Jarmon!
Not that it really matters (acutally kind of does) but did anyone else think that on Jackson's first TD that Maclin was holding Rogers for like 15 yards and Rogers was the only potential player with a resonable angle. And what a messed up no call on the late hit penalty in the second half, I didn't know you could tackle players on the bench?
What was kind of crazy last night is that JC had his WORST game ever and we still almost had a shot to pull it out. Especially if you eliminate his dumbass turnovers.

A loss!

I’m not sure it was his worst but it highlighted a major issue with the offense, the ability for a QB to make adjustments and quickly make decisions with or without 6 sacks.
Mistakes show a lack of coaching.
ARE: Muffed fumble
Campbell-Fumble, batted ball interception
Portis false start on 2nd-5
The Defense gave up 2 stupid plays which amounted for 14 points
The Offense scored 17 points the game should have been the Redskins
but the Offense gave the Eagles another 13 points because of poor discipline and poor decision making by the offensive players.

Who taught ARE to catch a punt with his facemask? Just when we where showing some momentum….ARRGGGGHHHH!!!!

No dumbass turnovers =
3rd straight win over the Eagles. Given the way this season has been, I can’t say that I’m particularly shocked, surprised or even too upset about last night. There are actually some things that I feel okay about after the game, all things considered. Fred Davis showed that he can step it up when we’re counting on him. For him to do that in the same game that Cooley goes down is huge. After all, last night was exactly the reason we drafted Sleepy in the first place. Devin Thomas actually making an impact makes the loss a bit more tolerable as well. Given the choice between him and Kelly stepping up, I’d much rather have Devin Thomas. He is certainly the better of the two, talent-wise.
But yeah, no pick-6 = totally different game. It almost seemed like the whole stadium except for Rock, Sleepy, Devin and a couple others on defense mailed it in after that.

Anyone else notice the obvious
The Eagle interior lineman and DE’s were in the backfield and in some cases behind Jason Campbell before most of his drops were even complete. This is the main source of most of his problems. While their are other problems most others are irrelevant. Even if these others are fixed 100% this team will NEVER go deep into the playoffs unless this one if fixed.
I think it’s even a worse problem that their was no false start problem and yet the game and outcome was the same as usual.
In other news, Vinny Ceratto to announce juggling clowns will be brought in to Redskin games for added entertainment and to justify increased ticket prices next year.

OK, Pas...
You called it right, so kudos to no delays of games. Apparently, this team is talented enough in the screw-up dept. to lose the game with good play calling (the plays and the smoothness of getting them into the game). A little help from the refs and its nolo contendre all over again.

I thought
There was going to be a delay of game penalty here or there, but I didn’t think it was going to be some type of disaster or anything like that. Like Pas said about 2,000 times before, Lewis has many years of experience in the NFL so he probably knew what he was doing.
Also, seeing Fred Davis catch all those balls reassured me of something I had originally thought. It’s not that the young receivers aren’t capable of performing, it’s that they aren’t given a chance to perform. Did Davis become more talented all of a sudden? No. He was given a chance to perform and he did just that.
Devin Thomas was talking to Brian Mitchell on Comcast Sportsnet about wanting to return kickoffs and punts, and just wanting to have more of a role within the offense. The guys on CSN then started talking about why Desean Jackson has been able to perform for his team and they said it was basically because the Iggles wanted to make Jackson their primary receiver, and that’s basically what he’s become.
I’m not saying any of them are probowlers, and there’s been some dropped passes and miscues, but look what happened after Davis dropped that pass (would have been a very difficult catch) in the end zone. He was given another chance and he got the TD. Who knows what these young guys are capable of if they aren’t given enough of a chance. Play the young guys!

AMEN
put Wilson at LB
Orakpo and Jarmon at DEs. (Carter should rotate through. Jarmon has looked good at tackle too, Carter has stepped it up as of late and shouldn’t be punished)
Williams and Levi Jones at the tackles, Heyer is garbage.
I don’t know if he looked better on ESPN, but Sellers looks like garbage from the stands.
Give Cartwright the start at RB, he has more heart than the rest of the team combined. I was very impressed with him last night, if the rest of the team would have rallied around him, he could have willed us to the victory.

I agree completely
It’s not that the young receivers aren’t capable of performing, it’s that they aren’t given a chance to perform. Did Davis become more talented all of a sudden? No. He was given a chance to perform and he did just that.
You can’t just look at the stat line or how many times they are on the field. Are they being used in the offense when they are on the field? I don’t think our top 3 picks from last season have been a focal point of this offense once this season. Have they all blown some golden opportunities at times? Yes. But, I would love to see one game where Devin or Malcolm or Fred (or Marko) is thrown to more than Moss or made the 1st progression for Campbell. We need to see if these guys really are busts (like so many posters on HH have asserted), OR maybe one or more of these guys is worth keeping around. It’s time to figure out who’s staying and who’s going.

Besides the fact that....
TEBOW BLOWS!!! Tebow will NOT be an elite or even decent NFL QB…….and definitely not in the NFC East!!!!!!! Why does everyone love Tebow so much??? Does he have little chocolate candies hidden in his nutsack? He is a great COLLEGE spread/option QB! Unfortunately……neither over those transfers to the NFL really well (ie: Charlie Ward)! We need a pure drop back passer (ie: Pike or Locker)!

I thought...
Campbell had a shot to really shine in the 1st half. The O-line wasn’t doing a bad job and he had time to look downfield. It was as if he expected to get crunched every play and was dumping it off before a play could develop. He looked really unhappy out there, did not want to be there, total head case. I wonder what they’ve been telling him?

I have been a Campbell supporter
and I still think that if we seriously address the Oline over the offseason he will be a fine quarterback for the NFC East offense we will hopefully return to. But, I doubt that our FO will have the patience to re-sign him, making him essentially a lame duck. Given this situation, I almost wish we could just throw Colt Brennan in there if he wasn’t on IR and let him get sacked the rest of the season. At least he has the ‘gun-slinger’ mentality that can be somewhat entertaining.

Pas, JC sucks!
He is a terrible QB, good OL or not. He does not know how to read the field. He is not sharp. He looks confused even on plays that are somewhat successful. He studders, and splutters way too much. He pushes and presses towards pressure most of the time and ends up sacked.
We have a failure as an orginization. Wow, no delay of games….

Ohhh let me in on the fun
Point is the play calling was a made-up issue, many teams use the system where plays are sent in from the coaches boxes to the field and then to the QB, which the Head coach monitors…This occured last night and worked well. Which is not what Poopo said would happen, you said:
Is it me or do we seem to be continually rearranging the deck chairs on our proverbial titanic?
The Washington Post is reporting that Redskins OC Smith will move to the sidelines and will relay the plays to QB Campbell after getting them from OC Sherm in the box…. HC Zorn will still be allowed to listen in but do nothing….The title of the article should have read:
“Redskins offense is going to be playing telephone on the sidelines while the Eagles devour Jason Campbell”.
Seriously, how much farther will this circus go?
The circus continues with players such as ARE and Campbells performance, Zorn’s lack of direction and discipline. A lack of heart in too many players, which must be the “medium” level Zorn talks about. What is not a part of the circus is how the play calling went on Monday, and Pas493 was highlighting a positive amoungst them many failures….No circus with the play calling

Scott E.?? Peyton Manning could not shine behind this line !!
Come on man !! The majority of the game he was being rushed before he could drop back. How many times was he knocked down?? Maybe you did not listen to Trent Dilfer after the game say that with t starts with the Offensive line not the Quarterback.. Look at Matt Cassel last yer versus this year. Look at Cutler last year versus this year. If you have a weak Offensive line it does not matter who you are. By the way on a three step drop slant play. The offensive linemans job is to cut the defensive lineman (get his hands down) in order to create a throwing lane for the quick short pass. The interception should have never happened. Why do we do very little if any cut blocking like people use on us ??
by LETJASONPASS on Oct 27, 2009 1:26 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Actually...
I believe P. Manning could shine behind this line. But he is at least 3 levels of play above JC. Aaron Rodgers is sacked many more times than JC, they have no running game, and yet he almost beat Favre in MN. He was incredible. Yes, our O-line sucks, but we did have opportunities to have a pass play develop and JC took the snap and threw directly to the dump off guy. I’m not saying we don’t have problems with our line, but Jason had opportunities and you could just see how painful it was for him to be out there. His frame of mind looked terrible – now there are a lot of reasons for this, many not his own, but he had a chance to show some real leadership and go out and do it – but he did not, and he made a lot of costly mistakes.

The offseason actions of trying to bring in another QB has effected JC, as well as the lack of performance this year, being benched this year. He actually led and played better last year than he did in this game. As Scott E states he had a great opportunity to turn not only the game but the season around meaningless interception, a fumble…with some ARE help the season was doomed.
by dr WNC on Oct 27, 2009 1:59 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Offensive line (hoggettes) are the problem not Campbell !!
1. If he had a Offensive line he would not have been running for his life so early in the game the fumble never would have happened ( yes he should protect the ball better).
2. Offensive line play 101 – When running a quick slant play you must fire off on your man and chop him after making contact with him to get his hands down if not the ball will be batted down. By chopping your man this creates a throwing lane. This is basic o-line play commonsense.
3. It does not take a stud offensive line to chop block this is a basic block any idiot can do. Seems like to me we need to start placing some blame on the OFFENSIVE LINE COACH !!!!! IF YOUR MEN CAN NOT CHOP BLOCK you are a bad coach.
Good o-line play none of these plays would have happened !!!!

Actually you are wrong !!
Besides being wrong we will never know how he would do behind a sorry o-line because he has a good one.
Maybe you guys forgot how JC was moving the ball early in the seaseon before
Chris Samuels went down. The problem at that time was that we had poor play calling / selection by jim zorn in the red zone. Does anyone not recall Portis left, left, left, left etc. etc.?
If we had Sherm Lewis as our playcaller we would be 6-1 not 2-5. Zorn is a coward he plays not to loose which in turn is how the team plays. They have been playing scared all year long. Sherm Lewis actually was more creative and at no time did I ask myself why he ran a certain play ?? That was a major difference watching Zorn call plays you are constantly wondering why in the world did he call that play

Wrong
While Green Bay may have a bad offensive line, it is FAR BETTER than our offensive line. Nobody in the league aside from Kansas City has an Offensive line that is as piss poor as ours. Really no point comparing. INSERT ANY QB NAME HERE would perform awful behind this line. Green Bay also has some sort of running game to keep teams off balance, averaging 4.3 yards per play, and 708 total rushing yards through 6 games. Averaging more than 100 rushing yards per game. It’s laughable to compare Green Bay’s O-line to ours!!
by Kurtstack on Oct 28, 2009 8:43 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
How do you explain?
That Aaron Rogers is the #2 ranked QB in the league as of today with a 110.2 rating and yet he is the most sacked QB in the league (25 sacks for -164yds)? (Jason a close 20 for -112).
The answer is: AR continues to look down field for receivers even when the pocket is collapsing, he feels and understands where the pressure is coming from and moves to avoid it, and he stays with the play and even makes great plays while scrambling to avoid the rush and does a better job protecting the football (1 fumble lost, I believe – will double check that).
He is in command of his offense and doesn’t look like an angry deer in the headlights, and is leading his team to wins consistently.

JC
The problem with JC is that he waits for his 1st target to get open before releasing the ball. This takes 1-2 seconds longer and prevents him from moving on to his second and third reads. If his primary receiver gets open, he needs to throw a laser to him which requires that big wind-up that he has developed. If his primary does not get wide open, then he is going to his check down too often. If the check down is covered, it is a sack or he is running for his life. He can complete a lot of passes this way, but it limits making big plays and has hindered the development of Kelly and Thomas. When I watch other games, I see the Mannings and Bradys releasing the ball before the primary receiver is open, they are anticipating the receiver getting open and trusting them much more than JC does with his. I also see them throwing the ball away way more than JC (a third and ten does not seem to bother them like it does JC…JC rarely throws it away). Lastly, I see the better QBs trying to put the ball where only their receiver can get to it, even if they are covered. I was hoping that JC would take a step forward with some of these things, but it looks like that has not happened.

Casual Fan
Only casual fans blame the QB when the O-line is horrendous. Campbell is just a sacraficial lamb out there right now, and so would anybody else we put back there (Todd Collins) until we can address our O-line needs. There is no point to bringing in a top notch QB if you can’t protect him. QB should be the last piece of the puzzle. Stick anybody you want back there until you get that O-line together.

I'm not a casual fan..
and I agree that we can’t develop a QB with this line. But, as I pointed out, AR is doing an awesome job under similar situations with his line. Of course, he trusts his receivers, and sticks with the play – perhaps too long.
Did you not see in the 1st qtr when JC pump faked to Moss, which worked beautifully, but didn’t stick with the play and tried to find Cooley over to the right, while Moss was all alone for the TD. It was essentially the same play Jackson burned CR on for the TD in the second half.

This years draft
Every pick should be an offensive lineman. We’ll fill in the other holes once we’ve drafted 6-7 O-linemen and have a real competition in camp for the starting O-line jobs.
by Kurtstack on Oct 28, 2009 9:58 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree
I think urgrading to an average line or possibly better is very possible almost immediately. Vinny is to stupid to figure it out though. Here’s how.
- Dockery is set at LG. Even though Rabach’s replacement should have been drafted a few years ago lets give him 1 more year for this article. He’s not great but he is somewhat reliable. I’m not sure what’s going on with Rinehart, is he injured or it that they just don’t like him, their seems to be conflicting articles on this. I tend to believe he is really hurt. So lets say he’s starting RG next year.
This leaves the tackles positions. In the first round we take the best tackle available and in the third round, since we do’t have a second(ugh), we take the next best tackle available. In the fourth round we take the next best tackle available. I’m tired of hearing Vinny talk about how these guys aren’t worth the selection they’d be picked at. What’s the alternative? It’s what we have now. I believe both of our tackles made the Redskins by being picked up off the street. What kind of F***ing player personell picks up 2 tackles off the street, 1 to start and 1 as the 2nd string. Only Ceratto does shit like this. Also their is still a chance that both Samuels and Thomas come back for 1 more year providing even more depth to go along with what we have now. My bet is at least 1 of them will.
Of course this doesn’t solve everything by no means. Their will be more busts, more injuries, other holes to fill such as a good RB to go along with Portis and many others that’s to much to talk about. This is why it will take 2 good years of specific need drafting just to get back to being competitive. However this team needs to start somewhere.

Refer to O-line in this draft
Just we don’t have any f’ing draft picks to speak of per shvd98z24

I would be ok with a couple 'rebuilding' years
if I felt like the organization was moving in the right direction and addressing the needs the right way.
A couple years of need-based drafting will put us in a position to be good enough to make some luxury picks later. One of the problems with the Redskins is that it seems that the FO treats ALL of our picks as luxury picks. I guess if you subscribe to their philosophy that teams are built through free agency, then the draft really is just a luxury. Its so bizarre and back-asswards that it causes me to rant and go on tangents on message boards. Ugh.
