Mission Impossible

Mission Impossible

- Sherman Lewis will be doing the play-calling from the Press Box.

Zorn: "It was strongly suggested to me after the game that the play-caller change. Very difficult for me...this is not an easy thing, but the production hasn't been there...I'm not going to speculate on how comfortable Sherm feels. I'll tell you this: He's been here for two weeks.

"We need change. We can't go on scoring six points a week."

Zorn still has the final say on which QB will start, which he hasn't decided yet. Zorn will also maintain his decision duties of whether to go for it on 4th down.

Sherman Smith and Stump Mitchell were not considered as candidates in the play-calling decision.

Chris Samuels is out Monday night. I can't imagine he sees another down this year.

"Right now, it's really just chaos," said one player who requested anonymity because of the fear of reprisal from management for speaking candidly. "It's just been one thing after another, and no one knows what's going on and how it's going to work."  [Insider]

So, Cerrato highly recommended Jim Zorn originally to be the Offensive Coordinator to Snyder, which has been a disaster from the start. Cerrato used three 2nd round draft picks, which have contributed nothing in regard to on-field presence. What else does Vinny have to do? This team is going backwards and no one is taking accountability. I certainly can't wait to see the play-calling Monday night. I'm ready for a good laugh. Like it matters though, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady couldn't score 20 points with this roster (offensive line).

Dan Snyder has turned this team into a never-ending circus

We are truly on par with Al Davis and the Raiders.

Bill Belichick and Tom Brady couldn't score 20 points with this roster (offensive line).

Yes they could
Cutler, Peyton, Brees and others could.
The line sucks but the play calling is worse, the coaching is very suspect and Vinny should take all the blame…leaving the organization.

so with that logic...

All Snyder has to do is bring in a new coach and trade away their 1st round picks for a top-tier QB….which he probably will end up doing.

No and yes

but with 32 teams and injuries it may work in the short term but it won’t work to build a team.

I have to agree

There’s no question we need a better OL, but our QBs aren’t helping the situation one bit. The only reason I disagreed with benching Campbell was because his backup is a step BACK in the wrong direction. But, Campbell played awful. There were a lot of missed opportunities this Sunday.

Also doesn't help...

But a fan called into the Junkies this morning saying he saw Cooley, Colt Brennan, and Sellers getting bombed at the Dock…a bar in Landestowne Friday night. 2 days before a game, but still unacceptable for a professional athlete.

campbell

also had devin thomas open on the sideline but threw the ball over his outside shoulder rather than leading him inside ! which would have been a big gain ! and did you not notice that I said collins hit the people that happend to be open which most of the time was just the running back ! also campbells pass to moss that hit his out stretched hands was over thrown and if it had been on target it probally would have been 6 points ! no one is usually going to be wide open , campbell just has to give them a chance to make a play on the ball like most WR in the NFL do ! they cant catch a ball thats not thrown to them.

Portis is old

and Sellers wasn’t blocking anybody. He lunged at the defender at the second and didn’t do anything.

probably true

but I’d take Campbell over Collins any day of the week. Collins is stuck in quicksand in the pocket. At least JC can tuck it in and pick up a 1st down with his legs. Collins can’t even pick up his legs. Also, I saw Collins miss PLENTY of passes as well. The one to Betts was horrible. How can you miss a guy who’s 5 feet from you?

by CJHutch on Oct 19, 2009 4:39 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

I saw multiple plays

where Devin Thomas and MK got separation, and Campbell wasn’t even looking or chose to go to his comfort zone – anywhere Moss is.

by aFan4Life on Oct 20, 2009 1:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes I was there

and I had a 45-yard line bird’s eye view. I don’t mean to imply that he had all day to throw on every play or that he always missed a wide open receiver. But there is no denying that better QBs would have made more plays and probably even scored. It was one of JC’s worst performances that I’ve seen live. He was rushing his throws and just looked generally inaccurate, even when he did have time. Regardless, he’s our best QB option and taking him out is a waste of time (no matter what Sonny Jurgensen says).

agree. A QB without an oline will just turn into failure

like that of Oakland (Russell), San Fran (A. Smith) or Detroit (Stafford).

Players going out on Friday night

I have seen a bunch of these guys out on Friday night before this year. Used to see Samuels at Kirkpatricks in Ashburn a lot. Last year, Sellers, Thomas and Betts were up at Clyde’s in Ashburn all the time and I was at the Dock this year for the kick-off party which Haynesworth, Hall, and Orakpo were at. Apparently, a lot of them hangout at Jackson’s in Reston Towncenter as well. It’s nothing new, and I don’t think it’s that big of a deal since it’s Friday night. If they were out boozing it up on Sat. night, then I would have an issue with it.

by tmarine17 on Oct 19, 2009 1:50 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I don't have a problem with it if we're winning....

but getting hammered and then still losing, especially Sellers who for a 3rd straight game missed a block the resulted in fewer points.

by KevinE on Oct 19, 2009 1:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Do we even know

That they were hammered? How do we know that weren’t there having a good time with one another and drinking soda, juice, or water? If they did drink alcohol, how do we know that it wasn’t only one drink? According to you, someone just called and said that they saw them getting bombed. But who was that someone and what would force me to believe him?

Are we also going to fault them for making love to their wives because we’re losing? They’re football players, but they’re humans first and foremost. It seems a little ridiculous to get mad at the players for having a few drinks (IF they had a few drinks) two days before the game, whether we win or lose. According to recent comments, it seems like this team has forced a lot of people to start drinking.

it's just a rumor

but regardless I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect people who are being paid millions of dollars per year to not drink for a few months. There’s lots of jobs out there where you can drink but they don’t pay the millions.

Caller

Yea, who knows if it’s true, but the caller said they def were not drinking water/soda and that they were quite awhile. The Junkies took it with a grain of salt, but said they get a lot of these calls and even they have seem them out, so it prob is true. Who knows…just another sign the Redskins organization is a gravy train.

by KevinE on Oct 19, 2009 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

at this point

I don’t think I really care. I mean, can you blame them? Hell, I’d get hammered too. These guys MUST know that they’re wasting the prime of their careers spitting into the wind with this horribly run team.

by CJHutch on Oct 19, 2009 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

to a point

I’ve worked for crappy management so I know how frustrating it is but I think I’d care a bit more if I were making millions.

Given the multitude of other problems with the team, I doubt it would really matter if the whole team showed up hammered to play the game. We’d still have the same vanilla game plan that we’ve used for 6 weeks straight, our Cbs would still be playing 10 yards off the line of scrimmage, we’d still blow time outs left and right, and we’d still use our “tiny” WR package in the red zone.

by aFan4Life on Oct 19, 2009 4:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hell, if they

WERE hammered come game time, maybe they could start getting open. The other teams defenders wouldn’t want to risk being hurled on.

yikes

it makes sense but I’d hate to see it. That seems to be the way it goes on horrible teams though. Why would a good player like Cooley want to stay for this nonsense when they could go to team with better chances?

by aFan4Life on Oct 20, 2009 9:28 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would agree if they are getting hammered

but every time I saw them out last year, they were gone by 11 and didn’t look all that intoxicated. Maybe this “fan” was bombed and really didn’t know if they were or not. Regardless, they obviously don’t give a shit either way and are just punting this year away. I think in the last 6 years the discipline around here has been lacking and it’s starting to show.

by tmarine17 on Oct 19, 2009 2:05 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

if they were winning

I wouldn’t care but they’re losing, badly. And the evidence that alcohol diminishes athletic performance is overwhelming so considerign what these guys make, I think it’s reasonable to expect them to lay off for a few months (during the season).

You missed the best one!

At the end of the press conference, Zorn is asked: “Are you aware of the perception around the league that Sherman Lewis really is not a very good play caller?”

Zorn: “You’ll have to ask Vinny about that.”

Vinny is going down with the ship folks. He has been completely in charge of all decisions since Gibbs retired, and they have all been terrible. Of course Snyder is to blame, too, but I find it impossible (even trying to think of the most impossible occurrence possible) that Vinny is around next year. I hope.

when exactly did VC take over personnel decisions

Was it the 2008 draft or did he have some control before that?

by aFan4Life on Oct 19, 2009 5:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

it was a 2 part question

At the end of the presser Zorn was asked the “are you aware” question of Lewis’ play calling rep. And Zorn responded “No, I’m not aware of that”.

The the question: “Is Viiny aware” of the perception…… Then Zorn gave his response: You’ll have to ask Vinny about that".

However, Vinny is not talking. Snyderatto leaving Zorn to air dry himself. Zorn playing team guy will not back stab Lewis and Vinny hiding without accountability
