Time for a New Wide Receiver (Or Two)

okay so after seeing devin thomas, or was it malcolm kelly? i forget..i think devin...miss that catch that could have won us the game yesterday are you guys ready to call him a bust? i always put the two second round receivers we drafted together in my thinking, and i consider them both a bust as of now. the problem is they've assumed a large role in our offense and our offense can't get going because they suck.  so were left with cooley (the man, i say our best player this year), and moss (number 2 or 3 on many teams) and randle el (ehhhh). thats our receiving core. why do we talk about all the talent we have on the offensive end...thats not really talent to me...

so then i wonder why snyder hasnt hooked us up with a ridiculous high payed receiver yet like he does at every other position...then i remember the brandon lloyd fiasco and i think snyder really didnt want to look that stupid again at that position. so for once he drafted guys to fill in starting sports on offense, and theyve both proven to be busts.

so what now? really, wide receiver is a huge problem for us and no one ever wants to acknowedge it.  now im gonna say something and all you guys can hate on me, but im gonna come out and say it. theres a certain wide receiver right now on a 1-4 team with a one year contract there whos not getting catches and who wants catches. hes played on two teams in our division during his career, and piled on yardage vesus us before. he plays in buffalo.

with a potential lack of salary cap next season snyder's redskins potentially become steinbrenner's yankees (even though we kind of already were considered the yankees of the nfl)...but we can pay TO what he asks, and he can come here and catch balls. substitue TO in for devin thomas and then look at our starting lineup. now thats scary.

now i know all you guys are gonna say oh he kills a lockeroom, oh hes an infection, never on our team. well guess what...our team is disgracefully disfunctional this season, the media is going crazy about our issues, our players are getting frustrated, and we just brought in a guy who zorn knows is gonna take over the play calling soon (probably after the cheifs beat us this week). HOW MUCH WORSE CAN IT GET?  hell at this point id WELCOME disfunction if it was about  a player wanting the ball more as opposed to all this whens zorn gonna get fired? whens campbell gonna get benched? is cp mad yet? bs. santana and randle el are soooo lax, I WANT A GUY SAYING GIVE ME THE BALL. i mean of all the positions do not go crazy with spending danny picks wide receiver...it doesnt make sense to me.  also, i think TO would LOVE to play against philly, and especially play against dallas, twice a year.

dismiss this idea if youd like, but just think about it a little bit first.

I agree,but

No T.O…………….. He would not be able to catch the ball either in our system…..He played well in Philly&Dallas because of the O-Line,Qb,and system. All above average…Look at him now, below average in all those areas in Buffalo….He is not having a good year….We need more than a WR….but yea, DT is a bust…….Kelly just needs more work and better system/coaching………

OK, This is stupid and when I hear..

people say D. Thomas, Malcolm Kelly and Fred Davis are all busts, what is the likelihood of that being true?
If ONE of them was terrible, I’d say OK, that individual wasn’t what people thought he was. But the fact that all three aren’t producing seems to indicate that it’s coaching AND the system they’re playing in (the system that can’t crack 20 points) more than it is a lack of talent/effort on the part of those three.

I wanna agree with you but...

….You’re wrong, dr WNC.

1) Fred Davis has TERRIBLE work-ethic and is not self-motivated. Even though he’s considered to be a “receiving tight-end” he runs awful routes in the packages he’s plugged into.

2) Malcolm can become a pretty good number two guy under the proper tutelage BUT that’s something he doesn’t have at present, and he current production simply doesn’t justify being picked so high. Thomas is a prima donna and is a failure on special teams duties assigned to him.

With all of that said, all fingers point to the offense line or lack of one. I don’t care how good Vinny Boy thought those kids were, if there is no protection for the QB how are they gonna get the ball in the first place?

Speaking of the QB, no one wants to point the finger at Joe Gibbs for drafting the bum. I don’t give a rat’s ass what any of you say: Jason Campbell is not a STARTING QB in the NFL. PERIOD! In my humble opinion the Redskins aren’t going to be an elite team again until Danny Boy steps aside, Vinny is stripped of his GM Duties and replaced, and we hired a Head Coach with some back-bone, large nuts, and a proven philosophy and system.

Im not interested in an older WR.

I would agree T.O. might help our offense, but if he was younger, it would be a more attractive trade. I dont know who you’re willing to trade though. That being said, T.O. is a major ticket seller in Buffalo, as sad as this maybe it’s a fact. We’d have to give up much more than he’s worth. As far as what he’d want in money is irrelevant due to him being under contract. Why trade for someone and resign them, especially if his deal is cap friendly (which it is for T.O.and even though a physical beast) a player that is as old as T.O.? Your aforementioned statements prove why you are not in NFL Team Management.

Its ignorant to say ANY player is a bust until 4 years. Everyone, including myself, wants results immediately. It is tomfoolery to desire these things from people. Very few people are naturally great at anything much less good at everything; thus the coaching aspect. whether or not its lack of experience or nerves or coaching. Let me repeat: It is ignorant to lay claim to the bust title this early. You just have needle dick syndrome and lack the testicular fortitude and foresight. #11, #12 and #86 may be busts. But to determine this now is a bit premature. Which I’m positive your boyfriend squabbles with you over your prematurity imensely.

if we signed

T.O., I would DEFINITELY give up on this team, at least until an actual management structure was in place. One player, ESPECIALLY a receiver, is not going ot fix our problems. And furthermore, Owens would MULTIPLY them ten fold. Besides, why would we spend that kind of money on a guy we’re gonna throw to for 8 yard pickups?

As for the young guys – I still think Kelly can be good. We have yet to focus on him. If Moss is taken away, we go to Cooley and/or Randle Hell. Thomas frustrates me because he had the perfect chance to make the play of the game yesterday, and therefor instantly justify his pick, but he blew it. And I still think he’s a prima dona in training. As for Davis – UGH!! OK, so he CAN catch. But he can’t break a tackle, and he jumps up every time he gets the ball. Is he playing football or hopscotch?

get real

guys, kelly and thomas are busts. they suck. call it ignorant call it premature but its true. we need a receiving core that demands respect in the nfl, and we dont have that

Gettting Real:

Based on what?
That the offense is a high scoring machine?
Thomas’ failure as a punt Returner?
Kelly’s failure to go across the middle?
Davis for jumping, ok I can’t argue that Davis is not a bust at this time….but he should have never been drafted by the Redskins and he has not had time to develop and be used correctly.
Alridge must be a bust too, he was re-signed by the team to add a speed back to the backfield and has been inacitve since being resigned….

it is premature

to say that about Kelly, and probably Thomas. But if you pay attention to what’s going on, you’ll see that the passing game starts with Moss. If he’s covered, then it’s Cooley. If he’s covered, then it’s Randle Hell. If he’s covered, then it’s the back out of the backfield. Whether it’s Campbell’s fault or Zorns (probably both), we are not looking to these guys early in the play. I am disappointed in them too, I hated picking TWO wide receivers, and I hated the Davis pick more than anything. But you can’t convince me that ALL THREE of these guys are busts. Not even the Redskins have that bad of luck.

Either way, you need to realize that receiver is THE LEAST of our worries. The truth is, we COULD win games just u;sing Moss, Cooley, and ARE, if we had to. But we *CAN’T win games where the line looks more like a bunch of maitre de’s than blockers.

Just 2 draft picks for tackles in 2008 and 2009.

The Skins could have gotten a good tackle in 2008 in the 2nd round and Michael Oher instead of Orakpo in 2009. They could have had a decent offensive line! Orakpo is going to be good for a long time but he wasn’t the urgent need. There were even better picks available in the 3rd and 4th rounds in 2008 than Rinehart.

What OL draft picks from 2008 and 2009

are starting and playing really well (that we missed out on)?

Michael Oher (Baltimore)
Max Unger (Seattle)………

I agree

that we should draft O-linemen every year. But I also think that Orakpo was a no-brainer pick. When they (our NEXT D-coordinator) start using him right, he will be a Pro Bowler. Oher would’ve been the pick if Orakpo was gone, but Oher is not the player Orakpo is.
