First game thread experience

for me, but unfortunately it will also be the first game I’ll miss this season.

Hopefully

I can absorb the experience through you good people…

EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHERS

is picking against the Skins…and I am tempted to agree. We can all keep wishing to have a break out game, but that seems less realistic each week. I think the panthers are much more likely to have break out game if Delomme doesnt screw it up, especially after the bye and at home. They have some serious weapons (Smith, Williams, Stewart) who can all bust a huge play on any down. I have an ugly feeling about this one. Say it aint so? Come on Skins, prove me (and everyone else) wrong!!

PS…LOL at the two coach pics at the top

by burgundyNgold on Oct 11, 2009 12:52 PM EDT reply actions

PPS...the Skins

are the underdog against a winless team. OUCH.

by burgundyNgold on Oct 11, 2009 12:55 PM EDT up reply actions

if Kelly is

“injured”, why don’t they activate Mitchell? And when is Alridge gonna play? We may need him as a 3rd back today once Sellers skips out on his block and CP gets mauled.

by CJHutch on Oct 11, 2009 12:57 PM EDT reply actions

Did anyone notice

That Rinehart is inactive today and Mike Williams will start?

by bigrm18 on Oct 11, 2009 1:02 PM EDT reply actions

at guard?

Shit. I’m so tired of this crap. I didn’t think Rhino did bad last week. If they don’t think he can play, then cut him.

by CJHutch on Oct 11, 2009 1:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Whoot! Good start for D.

However, that’s not a scrum.

by snowburnt on Oct 11, 2009 1:06 PM EDT reply actions

holy crap!! break out game comin up!! lol

by burgundyNgold on Oct 11, 2009 1:06 PM EDT reply actions

best part of that fumble

haynesworth should have not gotten that recovery….the ball just sat there. he went down and then wrestled it away…so studly

by Sugar on Oct 11, 2009 1:06 PM EDT reply actions

yeah

I was thinking the same

by CJHutch on Oct 11, 2009 1:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Well that was a pleasant surprise!

by superjuan on Oct 11, 2009 1:06 PM EDT reply actions

Oh god

Chris Samuels is injured…. why oh why?

by bigrm18 on Oct 11, 2009 1:06 PM EDT reply actions

based on the angle either left knee tweek or left ankle tweek

by snowburnt on Oct 11, 2009 1:08 PM EDT up reply actions

didn’t look like anything. NOTHING happened. He just blocked the guy, then went to a knee

by CJHutch on Oct 11, 2009 1:08 PM EDT up reply actions

samuels goin down is gonna hurt

by CuseSkinsfan1 on Oct 11, 2009 1:08 PM EDT reply actions

Portis is going OFF today!!

So glad I started him… despite what Sugar said. :-D

by VA_Skin on Oct 11, 2009 1:09 PM EDT reply actions

Now they can attack both sides of the line…lets hope Jason brought his running legs and head swivel

by snowburnt on Oct 11, 2009 1:09 PM EDT reply actions

So is Hunter Smith playing?

I thought he was out, why we cut Wynn

by CJHutch on Oct 11, 2009 1:09 PM EDT reply actions

No, he's inactive

Unless someone was lying when they put out the inactive list

by bigrm18 on Oct 11, 2009 1:10 PM EDT up reply actions

I think he was just

taken aback at how the game has started. This is the kind of stuff that happens AGAINST us.

by CJHutch on Oct 11, 2009 1:11 PM EDT up reply actions

crowd is quiet but

A good underneath rumble when the skins scored. A lot of empty seats still

Samuels

isn’t getting younger is he? Damn we need some solid young o lineman bad

by williamhudsonlink on Oct 11, 2009 1:10 PM EDT reply actions

Think

we will spend a first rounder this year on a left tackle? that would be great in my book.

by williamhudsonlink on Oct 11, 2009 1:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Wowzers

The Panthers are looking bad at everything thus far.

by bigrm18 on Oct 11, 2009 1:11 PM EDT reply actions

Their QB is #17 as well

But he had that number before Campbell of course

by bigrm18 on Oct 11, 2009 1:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't want to get too far ahead

But, today’s looking like a break out game for us. But you didn’t hear that from me…

by bigrm18 on Oct 11, 2009 1:14 PM EDT reply actions

Ehhhhh… I expect a lot more east west running from a typical Randel El return

by superjuan on Oct 11, 2009 1:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Thank

God for the defense. Or the last 5 years would have been really bad

by williamhudsonlink on Oct 11, 2009 1:15 PM EDT reply actions

Batiste?

Ok then. This could get good. Batiste on Peppers… hmm…

by williamhudsonlink on Oct 11, 2009 1:16 PM EDT reply actions

by snowburnt on Oct 11, 2009 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions

may as well

play an extra TE. Batiste looks awful.

by CJHutch on Oct 11, 2009 1:21 PM EDT up reply actions

complain about Romo. I will trade em straight up campbell for Romo anytime

by williamhudsonlink on Oct 11, 2009 1:21 PM EDT reply actions

You're an idiot.

You should be banned for even typing that.

by VA_Skin on Oct 11, 2009 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions

didn’t waste a high draft pick on Romo’s sorry ass. That’s the difference.

by williamhudsonlink on Oct 11, 2009 1:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Regardless

Romo is overrated, at best.

by VA_Skin on Oct 11, 2009 1:27 PM EDT up reply actions

he might have just gotten a time out without actually calling time out.

It screwed up Carolina’s timing

if so

it was accidental. He wouldn’t figure that out on his own

a neck stinger?….cuz it looked like his knee when he went down?

If he calls Santana “Santonio” one more time I don’t know what I’ll do….but I’ll love it. I think it’s a blatant sign of disrespect for our oft injured “number 1” receiver.

I thought they were only supposed to black out home games…

by snowburnt on Oct 11, 2009 1:56 PM EDT reply actions

They apparently fumbled

and the refs are saying that an illegal player on the Panthers picked it up, so it’s Redskins ball on the 1 yard line. BUT, the Panthers have challenged.

what station

are Sony and Sam on? I can’t take this

by CJHutch on Oct 11, 2009 2:00 PM EDT reply actions

I'm glad we got it

but that was a sketchy call.

by VA_Skin on Oct 11, 2009 2:00 PM EDT reply actions

It’s not sketchy at all: On fourth down a fumble cannot be advanced by the offense. The runner fumbled before the ball and it was recovered in the end zone which is considered an advance of the ball.

by superjuan on Oct 11, 2009 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions

clever call there by zorny

by snowburnt on Oct 11, 2009 2:01 PM EDT reply actions

Was that Heyer?

that got pushed back like a little girl??

by VA_Skin on Oct 11, 2009 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions

it was portis who didn’t realize that the goal line is not something you want to be behind

by snowburnt on Oct 11, 2009 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m still blaming Zorn and his horrible run call.

by superjuan on Oct 11, 2009 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions

You can’t really blame Portis since he has to run the play that was given him (remember Zorn will pull you if you run anything else), but I would agree with blaming Heyer for getting beat bad and Sellers for completely missing the block.

by superjuan on Oct 11, 2009 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Heyer FAILED

and so did Cooley. WHy Zorn still thinks Cooley can block on short plays is beyond me.

That’s why I have no faith in this coaching staff… If we played a 3/4 it’d be different but he’s simply not a 4/3 outside linebacker.

by Rekka on Oct 11, 2009 4:23 PM EDT reply actions

I didn’t watch the game, but these stats. stand out:

1) Our “supposedly improving” — according to preseason analysis posted here — young receivers/TE Thomas, Kelly, & Davis did absolutely squat again. I seriously wonder how in the hell whoever it was who kept saying that KelThomas were showing visible signs of improvement in the preseason said that, what a load of crap.
2) The Panthers smartly gave Cooley special attention on defense & held him to zero catches
3) Campbell’s completion%, QB rating was 73% & 104, Delhomme’s was 64% & 82
4) Campbell was sacked 5 times, Delhomme 3 times
5) Campbell’s YPA was 6.3, Delhomme’s was 7.2
6) The Panthers #2 receiver had more receptions than our #1
7) Redskins were 2-for-9 on 3rd downs, the Panthers were 4-for-12
8) Portis’s YPC was 3.0, DeAngelo Williams’s was 2.2 (Stewart’s was 3.9 but he is a steamroller, could start for many teams, & gets to come in when it’s ripe time for a big RB like him to trample tired tacklers – sorry for the alliteration)

My takeaway:
1) Malcolm Kelly, Devin Thomas, & Fred Davis are failures
2) It is pathetic that we are generating only 3 sacks with Haynesworth up front
3) Greg Blache is also part of the problem, his going into hiding from the media + inability to get the defense to maximize the abilities of our talented personnel is inexcusable
4) The O-Line is still a mess — I think Campbell could be a pretty great QB, his stats. are easily better than Delhomme’s and a good number of other decent staring QBs, but he is being forced to throw with a protection area the size of a NYC phone booth, and whoever called the game (is Zorn still caling it? or was Sherman Lewis in?) was probably too conservative at exactly the wrong times.
5) Blaming the refs is for losers unless it was a crucial, end-of-game play

My questions:
1) First I did not watch the game so my opinion is limited to the statistics I could examine
2) Any details on the safety?
3) Was King’s catch just a good catch, or was it blown/inadequate coverage?

Conclusion:
1) This is the 2nd winless team that we have lost to this season. Even after obtaining a 17-2 lead early in the 3rd quarter, we ended up losing the game. We need a new coach, now. Hiring Sherman Lewis does nothing to boost any confidence in Jim Zorn, who is easily the least capable in the NFC East, and by NFL standards a pathetic head coach. If anything really underscores that he is in over his head, this jump-start to another team with 0 wins should do that. We need a new coach. Now.
2) Blache also needs to be fired now. His insecurity is stymieing to me, and embelmatic of the fact that he can’t do his job, and is afraid of losing his temper and/or losing face if he is called out for not getting the job done.
3) We need to draft O-Line help the next draft. We are going to be last in the NFC East.

Not only that play, but the other scoring drive that the panthers put together started off with a long kick off return. The kick off return that was aided by 2 blatant holds on Devin Thomas. Not one ticky-tacky no call 2 GD blatant jersey pulling from the side holds.

Additionally there was a chance in the red zone that stalled on a play that should have been illegal contact or defensive holding in the end – zone. These refs were confused and unfit and it took points away from us and gave them to the panthers.

by snowburnt on Oct 11, 2009 6:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Campbell

You can do a lot of 5 yard passes and complete them and get your % up, and then score the occasional TD to get a good QB rating, but that does not make you a good QB

a. teams know that Campbell is hesitant to throw deep, so they stack the box so they can stop Portis.
b. teams know that when Campbell throw deep, he gets intercepted (like last week) so they stack the box to hope he try to throw a deep pass.
c. A 5 yd per pass attack is ok, until you hit that mistake (a miss 3rd down/a sack) which will force a 3rd and long, which Campbell is not capable of handling
d. throwing a 4 yd pass on a 3-6 is good for the QB rating, but makes you a bad QB, and we have about 50 of those already this season.

Last week, we test the opponent D and while Campbell threw 3 int, we won. Against Det and Car, we played it safe, the other team wait for our mistake and capitalised and we lost.

Campbell need to test the other team’s D, or we are not going to win

Can the revolution begin yet?

If you have season tickets and have the option- don’t renew. If you’re stuck and don’t want to eat your tickets, go to the rest of the games this year and have fun…but don’t buy any concessions. Sneak in as many paper bags and fire danny t-shirts as you can. Stop buying merchandise. Boo the team mercilessly. This is our team and they aren’t living up to our standards. This is a failure of the entire organization and none of them should be let off the hook. But the most important thing to do is to cease all financial support.
