Non-kool aid edition: How do you think the Skins will fair in '08?

[Note by Skin Patrol, 09/02/08 11:05 AM EDT ] Promoted, edited slightly, enjoy. I'm going to be a lot better at promoting things now that I've a) returned to a schedule of some normalcy b) the season is back.

Well people the preseason has finally come to an end and the NFL was smart enought to lead off the regular season with the best team in the land: Your Washington Redskins.  Taking everything we've seen in the offseason, OTA's, and presesason what are we to surmise as to how our team will do?

Things that are positive going into the season:

  1. We have good talent on both sides of the ball
  2. Great coaching staff that players have bought into
  3. We play the NFC West
  4. Great homefield advantage
  5. Good to possibly great D

Things that are negative going into the season:

  1. We play in the toughest division in the L (slang for league. I have massive street cred) (ED Note: No comment)
  2. New Coach + New scheme= FAIL
  3. Injury woes
  4. Depth chart at WR,LB,OL

It's futile to try and pick each game the Redskins might win or lose because what makes the NFL great is that you just never know who is going to come out on top. I will say this, 3 out of our first 5 games are against the NFC East and they're all away games. If we can go 2 for 3 in those we will be cooking with gas! Per the naked eye the other games in that span look winnable.

CptChaosSidekick's non kool aid outlook(s) for '08

  • Offense picks up WCO, injuries kept to minimum- 10-6- WildCard
  • Opposite of that- 8-8

I am however 100% sure to go apeshit should we piss games away like last year.

(ED Note: Poll attached involving CptChaosSidekick's predictions.)

Carolina Game still relavent

Before the Carolina game I was a confident 11-5 or 10-6 Kool-aid drinker, after that games performance I shrunk back to a 9-7 to 7-9 team. I’m afraid we are going to lose too many games we shouldn’t and it begins with the first half of the season. With the taste of kool-aid still in my mounth I have to hope the Redskins catch fire and are the hottest team the second half of the season but it may be too little too late.

Go Skins!

I'll go with

8-8. I think the division is tough enough where we should expect a 4-4 or even a 3-5 division. As nice as it is to play the NFC West, the AFC North ain’t easy, and we face Cleveland and Pittsburgh on the road I think.

Go register. Or else.

Scratch that...

we play them both at home. I’ll stick with 8-8 though that is fortuituous.

Go register. Or else.

Giants fan

I currently live in Bethesda, so I get more than my dose of Redskins news, but I just wanted to come on here and wish you guys good luck this year, not including Thursday ;)

If the Giants can’t repeat, I’m actually pulling for the Skins because I’m a fan of historical quirks, and both times the G-Men won the Super Bowl the Skins won it the next year, so it would be kinda cool if that happened again (again, only if the Giants can’t repeat!).

I think we will have to see how bad the Eagles

really are going to be before I can believe in my pick of going 9-7. I mean, in my mind, without any recievers to throw the ball to and a defense that is another year older, I’m thinking Philly might be lucky to win 6 games. But, then again, this is the NFL and weird stuff happens every year.

DeSean Jackson

I think he might have a big year for Philly. Then again, he is the only real receiving threat I see there. If McNabb can get the ball to him, they might have something there.

A defense 1 year older ?

Wow. Our LBs are 26 or younger, Parker is 30 but the rest of our DL is 26 or younger, and our secondary is in its prime, apart from Dawkins. We might have one of the youngest defense in the league, so, I really don’t get it. You saw that Trotter and H.Thomas left, right ?

Injuries...

…Will be key.

You have a solid OL, and a solid DL if Carter and Taylor stay healthy (Your DTs are average). To me, barring injuries, that’s a recipe for success.

London Fletecher was a tp MLB last year, Washington is declining but still a solid SLB and good pass rusher, and I’m a big fan of McIntosh( P.Gardent, a french player who was on your practice squad that I happen to know told me how impressive he is, and I started looking at him more closely).

With Rogers back 100 %, you have an underrated secondary, but again, if there is any injuries…

On offense, apart from Cooley and Portis who whill play in the Probowl next year, I really dn’t know what to expect.

I expect 8-8

I could live with 8-8

and I think with that record we’re as likely as not to make the postseason. NFC record becomes far more important, obviously.

Go register. Or else.

Me too

I’m not going to be extremely upset with any record we get this year. That is what’s so great about this year. With Zorn running things, you can’t make a guess because he has never coached an NFL game before.

Despite that, I still like what I see so far this year. I’m ready to see the offense let loose this year.Watching a 5-11 Jim Zorn team will be so much more fun than watching a 5-11 Joe Gibbs team. If anything, lets change those 9-7 losses into 35-31 losses so we can atleast have 6 days of decent stats to mull over.

I don’t see us going 5-11. Zorn has impressed me and I believe the players have been revived by his arrival. Yeah the last couple days were rough, but we didn’t have Laron Landry out there. He changes everything. So does a healthy Jason Taylor for an entire game (please?). Fred Davis and Chris Cooley are going to be special together. Santana has just spent his FIRST off-season working entirely with Jason Campbell, that will pay dividends.

Justin Tuck is a beast…but they still lost the guy that Jason Witten claims is the hardest guy he’ll ever cover and his star protege. That’s huge. I don’t trust Eli and I don’t trust the secondary, even though I agree that Phillips will be really good. It’s going to be a tough year for them. Donovan McNabb can’t just not play for a couple years and then step back in and say that they are still capable of being the squad that dominated for four years. It’s a completely different team and they have leaks everywhere. He will go down, guaranteed, and they will be awful again. Just because everyone is on the bandwagon, I’ll predict that Romo falls apart this year and the Cowboys win 11 games because of their defense.

Skins finish 10-6, second in the division. Let’s lose the preseason ball and chain and get this thing movin’!!
