Marcus Mason Redskin or Not
Preseason highlights 4th back, no more practice squad
Everyone has an opinion on who is going to make the 53-man roster. A troubles spot due to available openings is the Redskins deep running back group. Obviously, Clinton Portis is going to remain a redskin if for no other reason than his contract. Ladell Betts is a sure lock and Rock had a good showing against the Jets and is noted as a team leader on special teams. Which leaves Marcus, the man who is showing everyone he can be a running back in the NFL,
His performance has been noted and documented, NFL Network
It's going to be tough to cut RB Marcus Mason: The Redskins' fourth-string rusher has been extremely impressive so far in the preseason. With Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts getting limited carries, Mason has had plenty of opportunities and he has taken advantage of those chances. After rushing for 178 yards through the first two games, he added 75 more against the Jets.
Read between the lines, Marcus Mason will either make the 53 man roster or will no longer be a Redskin as another team will take a chance on him. Decisions will need to be made...boring preseason (the Redskins are home next week, well my home) continues but the cuts down to the 53 man roster before the SEASON begins should be interesting.

This is what it comes down to for me
Marcus Mason’s possible future talent vs Depth/ team hit by injury bug.
Other then that the only thing I see going in his way is we didn’t trip over ourselves to resign Rock Cartwright. This could be Rock’s last year with the team, and if he isn’t resigned, Mason could slide into his spot.
I'm worried about the beer supply. After this case, and the other case, there's only one case left- Barney Gumble

Not if he ends up signing elsewhere

Yes but I was speaking as if he was this yr's 4th RB
and not put on the practice squad.

marcus mason
marcus mason is a at best third string rb he is very undersized at 5 9 214 pounds. He could be a strong special teams player but nothing more than that on the redskins. I could see a team like the chiefs take a chance at him because he would remind them of a priest holmes who was also 5 9 215.

He's short
but I dunno if he’s undersized. Portis is two inches taller but listed as only 4 pounds heavier, so they’ve got comparable frames. Ladanian Tomlinson isn’t that much bigger.

mason

Not the season
but I think the kid has room to grow. I base that more on (my pehaps ill-conceived notion of) the fungibility of RBs. Mason is a guy who goes forward without dancing and there will always be a need for guys like that on NFL teams.
I did read about him missing a serious blitz pickup in practice the other day, though, which won’t help his chances.

Can't believe anybody can see his worth
Marcus Mason has looked awesome for two preseasons in a row. If the Skins give him up, he is going to get snatched quickly. I am betting that the Dolphins will pick him up in a hurry. The “Tuna” will know his worth. Mason is not only not small and is stong enough to play the whole game as a first and second down back. What does a guy have to do in preseason to raise your eyebrows?

mason
how many regular season yards does this kid have i was just wondering. believe me im a die hard skins fan but i dont see this kid doing anything in a skins uniform. I would like to think that i am wrong but i will have to see some playing time in the regular season to show me wrong.

Your skepticism is well placed
He’s never carried the ball in the regular season. To his credit, he’s only in his 2nd year.
As much as I love watching him this preseason, the truth is that if all goes well he shouldn’t see field; the only way he’s out there is is CP or Ladell Betts gets injured. Best case scenario is that those two remain healthy all seasons, right?

Yea
I think that mason would fill in well if both of those players went down. The chances of betts going down are slim to none he hasnt missed a quarter of a season his whole carreer. Portis on the other hand is always hurt with his shoulder and other junk
