Clinton Portis to Miss First Preseason Game

Step away from the panic button, this action isn't due to any current injury. The Washington Times fills us in:

Coach Jim Zorn said running back Clinton Portis is not likely to see any action in the team's preseason opener Aug. 3 against Indianapolis. Portis didn't play in any preseason games last season because of a knee injury and separated his shoulder in 2006's first exhibition contest.

in one of the first practices of the year, Cliton Portis rolled his ankle causing many cheast pains througout Redskins fandom. Being the hardcore RB that he is returned to the field for the afternoon practice only to get blasted by H.B. Blades and Marcus Washington. Portis summoning his inner Fred Smoot ,rebounded and popped right back up.

Personally I wouldn't mind if CP didn't touch the rock at all in the preseason. Ok maybe one game but no more. No he isn't LaDainian Tomlinson who hasn't had a carry in the presason yet, buit the man knows how to play ball and doesn't need the reps in the preseason. I think one preseason game would be enough for a game-speed warm up

It would not suprise me if he played only a few snaps during the preseason and I very fine with that as you’ve clearly stated.

I agree keeping Portis out of the pre-season would be wise. I have no problems with Clinton playing “tough-guy” foot-ball.. as long as it “smart-tough-guy” football. Let not go make any unnecessary risks. Also, I think that gives great oppurtunity to Mr. Ladell Betts and Mr. Rock Cartwright to get some reps, and show the NFL that our deth at RB is as deep as any other team (steelers, vikings). Lets no forget the year portis separated his shoulder and broke his hand, betts rushed for 1000+ yards, and had his best game against philly.
