Things Blogtastic
Wow we went from very little news over numerious weeks to Redskins news from every direction. The 'Skins are back in the National media for the Jason Taylor trade, to local outlets that provide more of inside view on things. Just a quick quote before I forget it. " Andre Carter & Jason Taylor, wow that's cooking with gas!"- Adam Schein NFL Network.
Lost in all the big news of two DE's being lost for the year while adding a future HOF'er was that Starting corner Fred Smoot sprained his left ankle in the afternoon practice, during an 11-on-11 drill. Oringinally Coach Zorn thought he could be out for a week. As the Redskins Insider reports, Fred Smoot is made of Adamantium.
CB Fred Smoot was able to practice fully today, more quickly than expected, a day after rolling his ankle.. "He did a great job today," Coach Jim Zorn said. "He was out there giving 100 percent."
Over at the DC Sports Blog Dan Steinberg informs us all that Coach Zorn is not about rookie hazing for he thinks it could distract them from more important things.
The highlight of the first-day hazing--besides veterans calling Fred Davis "Big Sleepy" and "Z's"--was last night at dinner, when the rooks were supposed to stand up on a chair and sing. Davis declined; "I just didn't know any songs off the top of my head to sing, because I'm not really a great singer," he said.
Some might not know but the Redskins now have an offical blogger. I tried out for the spot but I was told I dont read and spell so good. It's a different format and seems to be more interactive and detailed like this little tidbit from this mornings practice.
There were ups and downs in practice, of course, but the highlights were almost all during the TE/RB vs. LB/S drills. Sellers continued his strong practice, with a jugggling catch off a tipped ball and some nifty moves. RB Marcus Mason put an insane juke on LB Rian Wallace to get free and make a catch. And the drill ended with Portis scoring a TD over London Fletcher and spiking the ball emphatically. It was the liveliest practice got, and everyone seemed happy about it.
I suggest you(s) check it out and repeatedly click the refresh button to satisfy your need for Redskins info.
If you live under a bridge, then I guess it's okay that you didn't know Chris Cooley had a blog..but really it's not.. However if you want forgiveness click here. Cooley give his take on the first practice and other things in only the way he can.
A couple funny notes from our training staff. A player cannot call in sick to work; they will actually have someone come pick you up from your room and take you to the hospital. Also it's a hundred dollar fine for a player who does not record his weight before and after every practice. The player is responsible for weighing and recording them on a little chart. I'm complacent so I'm sure I'll be in debt a few hundred to the Skins...whatever.
Well that's it for now, Andre Carter is supposed to have a presser today however it's TBA as of now. Once I find out when, I'll throw it up on the fanshots.
Hail!
