Redskins sign Chad Rinehart
[Note by Skin Patrol, 07/12/08 9:12 AM EDT ] Promoted, many thanks to CptChaosSidekick for the update -- I'm at a wedding all day and will return tomorrow. Edited slightly.
From the official website:
The Washington Redskins today announced that they have agreed to terms with third-round draft choice Chad Rinehart. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. In addition, the Redskins have released defensive end Tommy Davis, center Kyle DeVan and quarterback Sam Hollenbach.
Chad Rinehart is a player to watch this training camp and I wouldn't be surprised to see him push for some PT. Contract details: It's a four-year deal that will pay $295,000 this season, $385,000 in 2010, $470,000 in 2011 and $555,000 in 2012. In 2012, Rinehart could earn as much as $1.2 million based on his playing time in the previous two seasons. There's a $611,375 signing bonus.
This makes 5 of 10 draft picks inked to deals. DE Rob Jackson from Kansas State; safety Kareem Moore of Nicholls State (who had arthroscopic knee surgery April 29); cornerback J.T. Tryon of Arizona State and safety Chris Horton of UCLA.
The release of Sam Hollenbach speaks volumes of what the front office thinks of Colt Brennan and should make our resident Redskin fan in Hawaii pleased. Still on the roster...Pete Schmitt. Remember that in previous times we had to release one player for everyone signed..well we droped 3 so that's some wiggle room for somone.
[Note by Skin Patrol, 07/12/08 9:14 AM EDT ] No tag for Pete Schmitt? Tsk tsk.

Peculiar releasing
The question is why?
Why do the Washington Redskins choose to release three players and only sign one player, when up to this point it’s been a one to one swap. It’s really two options
1. Free agent signings in the near future or
2. 5 of the remaining Draft picks are very close to signing
3 other options?
And… Adoptee Tommy Davis is no longer a Redskin leaving fellow North Carolina native “Red Snapper” and Cedrick Holt as the remaining NC natives still on the Squad. With Ethan Albright being the only lock to make the team at this point.
