Chalk up another draft pick & NFC east Poll

Per the Offical Site:

The Redskins have signed rookie safety Kareem Moore, the team announced on Friday. Moore was one of three sixth-round picks by the Redskins in last April's NFL Draft.

To make room for Moore on the roster, the Redskins released cornerback John Eubanks.

As some of you know Kareem Moore had knee surgery in April and missed all of the Redskins off-season workouts. Coach Zorn expects him to be ready by the second week of training camp, yet however is cautious and says It may not be until the third or fourth [preseason game], but we expect him to play."  Well the good thing is that the team doesn't seem to be worried about the status of his heath because why would they sign him then mmmm? Anyone else notice that the saftey position on our team, once the worst for depth now has a hella amount of depth?

This brings me to my poll question and before I ask it, include in your thought on not only the team but their fans as well.

Poll
Which NFC East rival do you despise the most?
Cowboys ( 87% of their fans are bandwagoners, not intelligent)
21 votes
Eagles (fans go out of their way to be dicks, holding the NFC East back with their non-championship selves

Giants (Well..they're..ehh..boring. I got nothing)

Moore...

I know nothing about this guy. I get the impression that Vinny and the crew are in love with him…maybe even more so than our other higher round picks. Has anyone seen him play or seen highlights or something?

A Safety or A CB

When looking at the Redskin’s defensive backs you’ve got to wonder how some of them are going to play out as far as the roster goes, no one else appears to be a little suprised that with Moore’s signing the Redskins released a CB. One which I thought was ok, not a starter but an ok back-up. Borrowing from the Times which is linked on the main page.

Cornerback (5)
Set: Shawn Springs, Fred Smoot, Carlos Rogers and Leigh Torrence.
Competition: Justin Tryon vs. John Eubanks vs. Cedrick Holt vs. Matteral Richardson vs. Byron Westbrook … all for one spot.
Prediction: Tryon gets the nod because he’s a draft pick. Westbrook is a candidate to return to the practice squad. The sixth corner will be an important decision for Greg Blache and Jerry Gray since it’s seems likely Rogers won’t be ready for the regular season.

Safety (5)
Set: LaRon Landry, Reed Doughty and Stuart Schweigert.
Competition: Vernon Fox vs. draft picks Chris Horton and Kareem Moore for two and possibly one spot depending on whether Rogers starts the season on the physically unable to perform list, meaning another corner will stay.
Prediction: Fox was limited to special teams last year (after starting games late in 2006) so his spot is up for grabs. But I’ll guess he and Horton survive the final cut. Moore missed all of OTAs because of injury.

You have to agree that the 3 safety and 3 of 4 cb listed as locked are really that, with Leigh Torrence being the possible odd man out. All 3 of the Safety “locks” are in place, does the competition a 4th safet come down to Vernon Fox or Chris Horton. With the real competition between the corner backs and versatility. The ability to play multiple positions for backups can be a key to the team taking 6 CB and 4 safeties…ramblings I know but when the team signs a safety and releases a CB you’ve gotta think….huh?

Great Analysis

I think a couple of factors can play into this. First, depending on what type of funky schems Coach Blanch uses could determine who makes the team. What I mean by that is, someone might be a saftey but they could line him up in CB’s position. Sort of like something coaches do to screw with a QB’s head. Second I think what amount of depth at each position is a factor. Some teams like to carry just two QB’s on a game day roster, maybe the Skins will keep more then the norm of CB’s and Safties on their game day roster as oppsed to other positions.

John Eubanks

was probably a casualty from day one. The team brought in a bunch of guys to compete in the secondary, already had a bunch of guys competing for position, and it became a numbers game.

I’m very, very pleased that Moore was signed. My biggest concern with him was injury, but the team apparently knows enough about it to get him inked. Great news.

Go register. Or else.
