Thanks & Redskins Fans It's On
Just wanted to say thatnks for allowing me to join the group...We are in the midst of a new begining New Coach , New Philosophy and I for one am very excited to be able to witness it from its birth...This years draft was a waste to some and a revalation to others I see it as the begining of Jim Zorn's masterpiece . Now let me be clear it will take a season or two but once the pieces are gathered and all on the same page NFC East lookout.............HTTR

A lot of
good receivers in the draft came to the Redskins. Did the skins really need them?

I don't know if we need them all
but the team felt that Malcolm Kelly that late in the 2nd was simply too good to pass up. In other words, our draft strategy emphasized best player available over need.
However, there are questions about both Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly and so it doesn’t hurt to hedge your bets and diversify. Thomas really only had one good year in College and Kelly’s stock dropped substantially because of the questions surrounding his 40 time and subsequent blaming of Oklahoma. Those questions don’t really concern me at all - I think they’ll both make great WRs - but the team has been in dramatic need of a tall, possession receiver for some time now, and I’m slightly comforted by the fact that it will take two major day one draft busts (along with Anthony Mix not panning out) for that to happen. I view it unlikely that both Kelly and Thomas, people held as two of the best of this receiving class by virtually everyone, flop.

Yes!
The talk of the Redskins line getting old seems to be in spite of the Redskins WR are too. As skin-patrol stated the redskins have hedged their bets very well on having a top skilled WR, but if things go very well the Redskins also have a great chance of having a core group of WR for the next several years, a great position to be in as a Redskin.

And cheap
we’ll see how deep Kelly and Thomas rookie contracts go, but as 2nd round picks they will not break the bank at all and we’ll have them on the cheap for years. If both pan out as good receivers, that gives us a huge amount of flexibility down the road in who and how we resign. One of my big concerns with picking a WR in the 1st round is that we had already sunk a pretty substantial amount of money in WRs (ARE and Moss are on serious contracts) without getting nearly the value you’d expect for that money. We got two very talented WRs in the 2nd round, where they are substantially cheaper to compensate.
