Redskins Undrafted Free Agent Signings
[Note by Skin Patrol, 04/28/08 7:41 PM EDT ] No more suspense, Redskins.com has the entire list up now. Anything you guys know about these players is appreciated in the comments section.
[Note by Skin Patrol, 04/28/08 7:35 PM EDT ] From Romans12 below, and I trust him:
Edward Williams, WR – Lane College
Brian Wilson, LB – Morgan State
[Note by TexSkins, 04/28/08 3:07 PM CDT ] Newest name, courtesy of the Redskin Report:
Bret Meyer, QB, Iowa State
[Note by Skin Patrol, 04/28/08 12:53 PM EDT ] The Redskin Report has more names, they are:
- Matterral Richardson, CB, Arkansas
- Kyle DeVan, C, Oregon State
- Dorian Smith, DE, Oregon State
[Note by Skin Patrol, 04/28/08 12:28 PM EDT ] Promoted and will try and update as new information is made available. Coach Zorn mentioned that the team had signed, I think, something like 13 undrafted players. Anything reader(s) know of these particular players (perhaps if you're from those regions and catch local CFB) would be much appreciated. Here are the archives at Tomahawk Nation (our Florida State blog) on Shannon Boatman. Redskins offensive assistant Chris Meidt hails from St. Olaf College, which could explain the signing of Horace Grant. Edited ever so slightly, enjoy.
NFL Draft Bible has an up to date list by team of rookie free agent signings.
WASHINGTON
OG Kerry Brown, Appalachian State
OT Shannon Boatman, Florida State
SS Kevin Mitchell, Illinois
OT Devin Clark, New Mexico
WR Horace Grant, St. Olaf
OG Kerry Brown is the only player I could find a profile for. According to NFL Draftcountdown.com he's a "mid-round" projection so this could be a huge value find for a postion that's very much in need.

A 2nd career as an NFL wideout? Not bad for an All-Star Power Forward.

Redskin Report has it as...
Horace GANT. No R. Dunno. Maybe he’ll still come with the goggles.

Kerry Brown
I’m actually really excited about this guy. i actually found an interview with him last night, I think it was on nfldraftguys.com but I’m not sure.
Brown is a big guy who had offers from a ton of big schools when he came out of high school. He decided to go to App. St. because he wanted to be somewhere that really wanted him and would continue to work with him even if things werent going great. He is pretty country so the abundance of outdoor activities was a draw as well.
The tape on him looks pretty good. Should be another versatile linemen to throw in the mix and provide some depth. Im pretty confident he will make the 53. He’s also a great interview, which I know we can all appreciate.
Im not sure I understand the whole adopt a Redskin movement we have going, but perhaps with Mix looking like he is going to be fighting for scraps at best this season, we may need to look for another underdog poised for greatness. Kerry Brown gets my support!

It's official...
Kerry Brown is now off the board for the 2008 Adopt-a-Redskin porgram.
And Romans, the program is all about hyping your player (in your case, Mr. Brown) over all the other players, even to the point of over hyping him. Think of it as your chance to be an online Flava Flav (best hype man ever) for your guy. And remember, Mr. Kerry Brown’s future on this team rests on your shoulder. Good luck to you and your player.

Thank goodness
The NC contingent by schools or sometimes residents was starting to become a major burden, Kerry Brown is a good choice for Romans 12
Tommy Davis DE is going to step up and be a “new” style player who breaks out in his second season, he’ll become that force on the Defensive line to help aid the lack of drafting less qualified players.
Cedrick Holt CB is focused on the challenge but plans to show he’s the fastest player on the team. His 4.4 40yd in 2007 was just the start, along with the new Draftees will challenge for nickle role this year.
Ethan Albright, needs no hype?

Kerry Brown
Kerry Brown was the CSN ( college sporting news lineman of the year for 07’. Chad Rinehart 3rd round pick from Northen Iowa was also a frist team selection. These guys can play. Why Kerry wasn’t drafted is a complete mystery.

No problem...
I will hype the hell out of Mr. Brown. He may be a small school prospect but he performed well in the biggest games. He had 21 knockdown blocks against Michigan this year and didnt let the Wolverines get to the QB at all. Also held his own against Glenn Dorsey last season.
Impressive kid. The video I watched of him was him practicing at one of the all star games. They were running simple linemen drills and he was the only one consistently blocking guys into the ground.
Not to get your hopes up…but the end of the analysis on Brown, the scout says, “Don’t be surprised to see Brown in future Pro Bowls.” (or something similar that includes Kerry Brown and Pro Bowls).
I’ll take that for an undrafted FA.
Now I’m just keeping my fingers crossed for Jo Lonn Dunbar or Wesley Woodyard to end up in Washington.

Also...
Wallace Gilberry, DE – Alabama – I’m not too sure why he didnt get drafted. Love the pick up for us. he may not have done anything spectacular in his college career, but he did steadily improve each year. This is a classic case of combine numbers ruining your stock. Ran close to a 5.0…blah blah blah. What I care about is that this guy had 80 tackles and 10 sacks last year, earning him first team all SEC honors. He was ranked #147 by ESPN this year and the #15 DE in the draft. Could be a steal. While his name would lead you to believe he is a character from the Andy Griffith show, he could provide some great depth on the line.
Darren Marquez, OT – Southern Illinois – have seen him on a lot of sleeper lists.

Never trust me...
I am usually wrong. Unless of course I am discussing the Pro Bowl potential of the greatest offensive linemen ever to don the maroon and black…Mr. Kerry Brown.
Gilberry and Marquez were up on Redskins Report. Would have been nice. Still like the haul though.
