Around SBN: Are The Orioles Bad Or Unlucky With Their Young Pitching?

Jim Zorn on Sirius Radio

Just before I pulled into my house after work our coach made an appearance. So I stayed in my car to hear what he had to say to radio hosts Tim Green and Ross Tucker (former Skin)

Star-divide

These aren't exact quotes. On drafting a TE Fred Davis the hosts mentioned that some people didn't understand that pick, but before Zorn could answer they said that people don'r realize that you need 2 TE's in the West Coast offense not to mention in any. Zorn agreed and also mentioned if Cooley got hurt the Offense wouldn't miss a beat.

On drafting 2 WR's: again the hosts loved this saying that we're guaranteed that one of them is a playmaker from the get-go and it really helps Campbell. Zorn mentioned  Devin Thomas' leaping ability but talked more about Kelly's speed "concern". He mentioned the importants of route running and that off the line, he's blazing. Also mentioned Steve Largent ran a 4.6 or something around there.

Chad Rinehart has another pick the host love, primarily for value and versitility. He manned the G/T postions at N. Iowa and according to the Insider will be taking some snaps (literily) at the C postion.

They did bring up the lack of a CB, or pass rushing specialist in the top 3 rounds to which Zorn said just because they're drafted low doesn't mean they can't produce. Personally I think they went strictly by value and there was none at those positions during their picks. Zorn then mentioned the 13 rookie FA's we signed to which, currently I can't find a list of...

Jim Zorn on the radio

CapSideKick:

I wish I could pick up those broadcasts. Yes, the free agent signing list would be extremely interesting to see. I think the potential that the Redskins got a future all-pro Wr is probable. I would also think that the offense should generate much more ball control (converting 3rd downs and staying on the field for longer stretches). This is provided the O-line stays healthy, Bugel continues his great coaching with Heyer (maybe Alexander?), and the new draftee interior lineman, and Zorn’s teaching is quickly picked up by Campbell.

My thoughts are, whether some fans like it or not, the Redskins coaching staff and front office are solidly behind Jason Campbell.

WR's

Timed speed is such a minor portion to overall ability for a receiver. Burst of speed, quickness, running correct routes, being able to break free from a physical corner near the line of scrimmage, great hands, etc all come into play when evaluating talent.

Thomas and Kelly both have many positive attributes, and some weaknesses – but, hopefully, are easily coached.

Unless one these rookies is a bust early, I think we will see at least one veteran receiver(Thrash – whom I have admired for many years) will be gone. It also puts alot of pressure on Anthony Mix. I also wonder, just speculation at this time, that if both Thomas and Kelly learn the playbook quickly, produce early and turn out to be effective in WC system by the start of the season, if that may not impact Randle-El’s playing time ?

Football is about competition. The Reskins receiving corps, including tight ends, look to be in for a lot of competition for jobs this coming season.

Competition

breeds excellence. You hit the nail with an anvil. None of our picks have taken any pro field, but it’s my opinion that you always draft for value. They did this, plus they did it by trading down and still grabbing their desired prospects while acquiring more draft picks.

The draft picks at WR plus Moss & ARE equal 4 and my early guess is Tharsh makes the final cut only for being extraordinary at special teams. I don’t remember if anyone adopted Mix on this site, but he’s looking like his future is going to be at an orphanage….ah thank you

I did adopt him...

and I think he is about done on the team.

They didn't draft

a FB or sign one in FA so he’s got to make the practice squad for depth alone.
