Whats up Beltway Brothers
For the first time in history your Washington Redskins(1-2) will head to Baltimore(2-1) to play the Ravens in a regular season game. The Redskins, the only team currently to never play a game in Baltimore, will try to get a win against a Ravens team which is almost flawless at home and 6 and 1 in the past 7 games. Many people feel the skins are already in must win situation due to the strength of play in the NFC this year, and their play as of late has forced them into this situation. We can clearly see that the Ravens are thinking about post season and positioning themselves for a run at the division. With these two teams going in opposite directions lets look at some key head to head matchups that could be highlighted on national television this weekend.
Clinton Portis vs. Ravens Rush Defense/ i say dont play him. he'll just get hurt. no sense in risking him for the rest of the season. plus that league leading rusher status for portis will go away. adrian peterson now will have that.
Jason Campbell vs. Ravens Blitz/ you better hope he moves better than he does in that Eastern Motors commercial. He is gonna make some bad decisions against a defense that preys off of mediocre quarterbacks.
Joe Flacco vs. Redskins Defense/ weve already seen this year that a quarterback in his first year out of a Minor League college is better than your 4 year investment in one of the greatest handoff quarterbacks in the history of college football. Joe Flacco has shown that he is the real deal. Watch him run this offensive effectivley and expect him to score either in the air, on the ground, or at the recieving end.
Let me know if there is any matchups that you are interested in seeing.
Come up and get a ticket this weekend.
This will be the last game that counts for you.

Score
air, ground or recieving end but not all three cause 21 points for your offense against the Redskins Defense is not even a remote chance so…
hope your defense can hold the “going wrong” direction offense to less than 10 points otherwise Baltimore loses as the Baltimore offense will not score 10 points.

Wow, I'll remember this
and we’ll both come back here to see who eats crow. If the Ravens score more than 10 points, you kneel before us Ravens fans and if we score less we will return to take our knees as well. Deal?

Come on...
10 points?!? Have you not seen or heard about the Raven’s offense this year. This isn’t your father’s Ravens. The Ravens are 10th in the NFL in scoring… 24.3 pts/game. The Ravens have only scored less than 10 points ONCE this year. I mean they even put up 10 on the Giants… and the Redskins ARE NOT the Giants. Gimme a break.
Just sayin’.

one more thing...
The Ravens haven’t allowed an offensive TD in 10 1/2 quarters (however, I’m not sure the Bengals can count toward that stat) … since the 7:20 left in the 2nd quarter of the Giants game in week 11.

I had been telling my friend whose a Skins fan. Even before the game against the steelers. That the result of the Steelers game is going to be what its like for you all to play us. We both have dominant defenses and a run first offense. (of course a major difference being our QB who is coming into his own)
I dont know if we’ll score the same amount of points the steelers did. But I believe we will shut your offense down..
(and i swear dont mention that GIANTS game, we lost that game on two plays at the hands of Derrick Mason, but the sports writers dont ever want to talk about that… DAMNIT I’ll say it… He made me so mad that game… he was injured though)

less than 10 points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????!!!!!!!!!!?????????
OK.. I am new here, so I am not sure how smart people are around here. I am not going to come on here and FAN it up and say the Ravens will beat you by 49 points or that I am gauranteeing anything.
BUT. Come on.
Can we just look at some stats and compare.
The Ravens are averaging 24.3 points per game which is tied for 10th in the league. (Washington is 28th just in case you are wondering)
Washington defense gives up 18.5 points per game which is not bad sitting at 6th place.
(3 spots behind Baltimore who gives up 15.8 for 3rd place behind Steelers and Titans)
Redskins havent held any opponent to 10 points yet this season while the Ravens have done it 5 times.
I could go man but I dont have time. Get real.
BTW… Derrick Mason was not the reason that we lost to the Giants. There were a hundred other reasons as well.
GO RAVENS!

Really now *at the D. Mason comment*
Lets see, dropped pass in the ENDZONE
Dropped pass that resulted in an Interception for a Touchdown…
and thats just TWO PLAYS that would have made the score 23-17 Giants instead of 30-10 Giants… dont get me started on where else he messed up… YEAH he was injured.. but on the offensive side of the ball he lost us that game.

Blame your loss on D Mason and not us shredding your bullshit D. 200 YARDS ya fool. You guys beat up on shitty teams. And use gimmick plays on Offense to get the ball rolling. The only thing that saved your ass from a shut out was Flacco’s legs. Go lay an egg against the REAL contenders you posers feeding off crappy teams.

all im saying is regardless of that… that would have made it a 6 point game instead of a 20 point game… Thats a big thing IMO if one person causes a shift in points that big.

Yeah, but...
…at least we get to beat up on another of those so-called “crappy” teams this weekend! What are decent teams supposed to do with “crappy” teams? Besides, we didn’t just defeat them, we put a huge beatdown on them. The tough teams we lost to are the better teams in the entire league. We may not be up to the task against them on the road, but other than Tennessee, which barely and shouldn’t have beaten us at home, we’ve protected own home turf. This game just won’t be that close, especially in the second half, where we rule.

You didn't really SHRED our D.
More of a couple of deep slices. In analyzing the game log I found that out of 33 rushes, 4 were greater than 10yds, and only two of those less than 10 yds were greater than 5 yds. So it’s not like the Giants RAN ALL OVER US. There were three big plays that the Giants broke… the first run of the game, 36 yards, the 77 yarder and a 22 yarder in there. There was also a 15 yarder. I’m not taking anything from the rushing effort by the Giants but the other 30 rushes totaled only 72 yds. “Shredding [our] bullshit D” is a bit of an overstatement.

Maybe I'm Stupid...but english is my first language
My guess we are too smart for Ravens:
The Ravens lost 4 games; Let’s see
Steelers 23-20
Titans 13-10
Colts 31-3
Giants 30-10
Throwing out the Steelers game, which is different because it’s an inter-divisonal game. When the Ravens are held to 10 or less points they lose…follow me here…For the Redskins to WIN they should hold the Ravens to 10 points or less.
Prediction, Washington’s Defense holds the OFFENSIVE TEAM to less than 10 points and wins the game.
It’s possible the Ravens very good defense and special teams could score points increasing the actual final score but the OFFENSE will be held to less than 10 points.
by dr WNC on Dec 2, 2008 12:26 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I grant you one thing
If you hold us to 10 points or less, you WILL probably win. Of course, you have to actually score 11, which I’m not too sure you will, as you have only done so ONCE in the past FOUR games!
You’re also saying you will hold our OFFENSIVE team to less than 10 points. So, if our defense and Special Teams chip in with 10-14 points, to go along with our OFFENSE’S 10 points, you still think you’ll put 20+ up on us!? Now that’s being unrealistic, even for a Redskins fan!

10 points
The last time the Redskins held the Ravens under 10 points was when we had Tony Banks at the helm. Then you went through our trash and picked him up. We now have Joe Flacco who is a machine and will rip your secondary apart. Weve already seen D’Angelo Hall and Carlos Rogers has feet for hands. Dont compare the Redskins to the Steelers,Titans,Colts, or Giants because they are all playoff teams. The Redskins are the team on the outside looking in. We put up double digit wins against teams we beat and we beat everyteam that we are supposed to. How do you think the Redskins are going to put up 10 points?

Clinton
if this is a “must win” game, then why would the skins sit clinton portis so he doesn’t get banged up. without him, as you said, we have “one of the best handoff quarterbacks in college history” handing off to ladell betts, a backup. I’m sorry, Ravensfan52, but this post is poorly thought out. Yes, the skins have lost three out of four, but those three losses have come against Pittsburgh, Dallas, and the Giants, all good teams. The ravens lost to the Steelers and Giants as well.
On the other hand, the redskins do have no deep threat other than santana, which i believe is the main issue for our lacking in offense. Jason is by no means a pro bowler, but he is certainly as good as anyone else in the league.
Unlike what you seem to think, the redskins D is no cupcake. Our secondary is one of the best in the league, although it has underperformed recently, and our front 7 do their job. This should be a closely contested game, probably in the low 20’s-high 10’s for each team.

I'm interested
first to see Baltimore’s run against the Skins run d. I’m of the opinion that the Skins shut the Ravens’ run down through the first three quarters. That’s based on the fact that they did it to the Giants, and pretty much everyone else but Seattle. If the skins loose the TOP battle, the D may wear down in the 4th.
After that I’m interested to see Flacco v. the skins’ secondary. His numbers are excellent as long as he’s throwing less than 29 passes, and this is where the game is won or lost. If the Skins’ run D plays like they did against the Giants thereby forcing Flacco to win through the air, the skins are in good shape. If the Ravens start grinding out the ball successfully on 1st and 2nd and the Skins let Flacco play pass and catch on third down (for which his numbers are indeed astronomical), the Skins loose this game.
I like the matchup. I’ll take the Skins run D against any run O in the league (even the #1 rated run O) and I’ll take my chances on Flacco’s ability to win through the air. The Giant’s big plays were not based on defensive breakdowns, but rather were the result of excellent execution. My bet is that Flacco and Co. don’t execute like the G-men.
Offensively for the Skins this game is about Jason Campbell. Portis is really banged up, and even if he or Betts did go for 120 yards, the question mark would be and has been on whether Campbell can move the chains when he needs to.

Exactly on target
This game will be won or lost on Campbell’s shoulders. Everything else will matter, of course, but if he plays poorly, you lose. If he plays well, you win. It’s not the same on the Ravens. Even if Flacco plays poorly, we can still win with our run game and defense. Washington can’t do the same. It’s all on Jason.

Skins Run or lack there of
They shouldnt run portis because you know how competitive those miami boys get on defense, especially when they are going after one of their own. Dr. Doitch Big will lose his practice if he plays. He doesnt match up well. Southeast Jerome wouldn’t crack 60 yards on this team on a good day.
Betts is not much better of an option either, but i remember him filling in well last year when Clinton was out. He is a better matchup in my opinion, but its not going to matter who takes the carries anyway. When planning against a run defense like ours, the best option would be not to run at all. The Giants game we were absolutely torched by a great group of backs. The Redskins runners should not ever be confused with a great group. Ladell Betts getting 120 yards is the craziest thing ive ever heard.
Yes, Jason Campbell is going to have to win this game for you, thats your problem. We let go of our hopes with Kyle, the Washington Redskins are just a couple of years behind us with Jason. He had you excited at the begining of the year when youre running game was healthy and he didnt have interceptions, but when its time to make decisions Jason Campbell struggles. The pressure we put on Jason will have him throwing picks all night. The Redskins offense is going to struggle as a whole.
by Ravensfan52 on Dec 3, 2008 2:37 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Your crazy to say
that the Skins’ running backs “should not ever be confused with a great group.” I’m pretty sure that Portis and Betts make one of the best back tandems in the league. Betts doesn’t get many carries, but he went for over 1,000 yards in half of a season a few years back, not many can say that.
Playing with really big guys up front works when your pushing around AFC teams built for speed and spread offenses, but seemed to bog down pretty badly when facing a real group of smashmouthed football players, like the G-men. I’m interested to see if the heavy sets that the Ravens run will be effective against the Skins.
You say that JC is the problem, but its very likely this week that Flacco will be in the same situation as campbell. (ie the Raven’s run gets shut down, Flacco has to become pass happy). I havn’t watched much Flacco, but I know his stats when he throws 30 plus times per game aren’t pretty. Your faith in your young QB is impressive, and also dangerous.
By the way, JC doesn’t throw picks that often. He’s thrown 4 this year despite facing the pass rushes by the top four pass rushing teams (and Dallas and the Giants, no 2 and 4 respectively, twice so far). By stating that he will throw picks all night you’ve pretty much showed how little you know about Skins’ football this year, and how little you’ve seen of Campbell. I like fiery fans, but I’m not impressed by people coming onto another teams site and denigrating the team with bad information.

But he gets sacked a lot
Something tells me that he will be pressured by the Ravens defense all evening and even if he doesn’t throw picks, he won’t complete a bunch either. His best bet by far will be to Chris Cooley, as good tight ends have killed us. However, I don’t know if Campbell is up to the task. As far as playing against tough guys, I think that playing the Steelers defense twice every year qualifies us, as does playing the Giants does for you. However, after seeing how you layed down for the big bad Giants and Steelers at your own place, me thinks you’ll do the same on the road to us as well.

Ravens running
We are a balanced running attack , the third best in the league. Laron and Ray and Willis have all had big individual days throughout the season and we are able to alternate them efficiently. But this offense is starting to become unpredictable and the question becomes is the run setting up the pass or is the pass setting up the run. We manage to convert on a good amount of third downs and control the clock for most of the game. Look for a tight game through the first half and then an explosion in the second half.

Maybe...
First why are you going to throw out the Steelers? A game is a game. Are you going to throw out the Rams game?
Secondly, are seriously going to compare Jason Campbell and the Redskins with Giants, Steelers, Colts, and the Titans.
I will respectfully disagree with you and say that the Skins will not hold us to 10 or less.
PREDICTION
At M & T, I think it is a lot easier to say that Ravens will take care of business. 20 to 7 Ravens

yawn
All I see is a bunch of Ravens fans who have nothing but positive things to say about their team and negative things to say about the Skins. I’m not even going to bother jumping into this “discussion.” Or, you know what, I will.
“Clinton Portis vs. Ravens Rush Defense/ i say dont play him. he’ll just get hurt.”
-Really? Really?
“Jason Campbell vs. Ravens Blitz/ you better hope he moves better than he does in that Eastern Motors commercial. He is gonna make some bad decisions against a defense that preys off of mediocre quarterbacks.”
Really? Every single stat that Campbell has says he’s a better QB than Flacco, who is apparently: “quarterback in his first year out of a Minor League college is better than your 4 year investment in one of the greatest handoff quarterbacks in the history of college football” lol k guy
If anyone here thinks this game will be anything other than a defensive, running game battle won in the 4th quarter, you’re only kidding yourselves.
And, if I’m wrong, come back and tell me when the game is over. I’ll own up to it. ;)

Jason Cambell
I told you to forget about what he did for you early in the season. As of late, Campbell has not been throwing touchdowns hes been throwing interceptions. Your offense as a whole hasnt been puting up any points either. What makes you think that youre going to have a breakout game on offense against one of the toughest defenses in the league?
Joe Flacco as of late, has posted the best quarterback rating over the past 7 games.
by Ravensfan52 on Dec 3, 2008 8:22 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Ummm....
Why praytell should we ignore what Campbell did in the beginning of the season? Was he not the same QB playing for the same team?
And by that standard should you ignore what Flacco was doing at the beginning of the season?
If that’s where you are at, then by all means, gloat about Flacco’s amazing QB rating over the last seven games, or on third down only for that matter. Anyone can distill a players performance over time to show only their best characteristics. Flacco’s numbers are amazing, but must be taken as a cohesive whole and not as snippits. When looked at comprehensively Flacco’s numbers come back down to earth.
Black ops is right. You have nothing but positives to say about the Ravens and negatives about the Skins. This is a sign of a committed fan (I commend you) and immaturity (grow up; be realistic). Come back after the game and you can gloat or take your licks like a man (or woman, as the case may be).

What have you done for me lately
Exactly why you should pay close attention to the past few games. Hot team vs Cold team. I am biased yes, but the spread is like 6 and every expert has got us winning in this one. Point out some reasons why you think youll win. I dont think you will. The Redskins have never passed for 200 yards in a game against the Ravens. Last time Portis ran against us he averaged about 2 yards a carry.
by Ravensfan52 on Dec 3, 2008 10:21 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Oh I don't know about that
The skins will probably have to put the ball in the air over 40 times, like it or not. They will have a tough time running and may fall behind and need to go to the pass game to try to stick with us. Therefore, they could easily throw 40-50 times and well over 200 yards. However, most of it will be between the 20’s and in desperation. Remember that this is a bend-but-don’t-break defense, willing to give you the underneath but will man up in the Red Zone, where we are hungry beasts.

I think
the Skins have a good shot at winning this game, not that they will win.
Why? Because, as I said earlier, I expect the Skins D to shut down the Ravens run, putting the Ravens O directly on Flacco’s shoulders. This didn’t work against the Giants, because Eli was on fire. I’ll take my chances that Flacco won’t find similar success against the Skins secondary.
As for the Skins O, the issue is whether or not they can get the ball moving. It would not surprise me if the Skins’ O gets shut down ala Steelers and the two Giants games. Neither would it surprise me if the Skins O came out red hot and started stomping. I don’t see the Skins scoring more than 20, and likely not more than 14. On the other hand, I don’t see the Ravens scoring more than 20 either, and likely not more than 14. It’ll be a good game. One about whether Jason Campbell can succeed in very familiar yet unfriendly territory.
