Recap: Giants 23 - Skins 7
I'm gonna make this short, since they isn't much to say. The team looked bad. Yeah, there was a pass interference call at the end that was missed, but it would have only led to getting the Skins within 10 points.
The picture says it all. (Image from here.)
Yeah, the Giants are good, defending champs and all that. But they didn't play their best game today. Eli looked good, not great. Jacobs looked human. Ward had a good day. The defense looked good (man, Tuck is something else) but there were dropped balls and missed chances. JC wasn't very good.
The Skins defense held the Giants to only 23. They averaged 29.9 coming in (Fox did a great job pointing out that the most the Skins have scored all year was 29.) Rogers had another bad day and Hall had another INT.
Yeah, Portis was in and out all game. He probably should've taken the end of the game off. There wasn't much running to be done after the Giants got up 2 (and then 3) scores late. But that's not his style. Especially on Sean Taylor day.
Which brings me to my final point: this was Sean Taylor day. Say what you will about his play, his passion, his skill... the guy never gave up. He never went half speed or coasted. He never gave up an extra yard without a fight. He never let a team come in to FedEx and have their way.
And I'm not saying... I'm just saying.
This team is 7-5, 3rd in the division and all the momentum they might have gained early in the season is gone. It's a dog fight just to make the playoffs from this point until the end. I just hope I still have a dog in the fight.

AHHHH
well, the only way we make the playoffs is going 4-0 the rest of the way. we can do it, our real test is this coming week at baltimore.
4-0, 11-5, we can do a wild card at 11-5. no problem.
and can we please please PLEASE SIGN A RUNNING BACK. CP is a fucking man, i love him to death, but ladell betts is the least clutch human being on the planet, and we need to run the ball more . CP dying every week, we need a number 2 back that doesnt fumble the ball. this loss was on our WR’s dropping every damn thing. g-men played an allright game, i gotta say it, " THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!!!!"
FUCKING PISSED. 4-0 from here on out baby ;)

Not a good week to get well DC. I’m disappointed in the Skins. Seems as though someone simply flipped the off switch. I didn’t see todays game because I knew you didn’t have chance. You barely got by the C-Hawks with very uninspired play. Portis burned himself out during that game and was a non factor for today.
It’s not a good direction your heading in. The fork is definately in B-more. Your QB, with his slow and deliberate style is primed for sacks and picks from B-more (League leaders with 20). Portis will not be healthy enough for the beating. We have speed in the DB field and small receivers aren’t usually our problem. We have 3 running backs who could start for you and we have the number 2 D over-all. Put this on top of your physical Giants contest and how could you be ready by Sunday. Just saying…. my humble prediction is Ravens 34 Skins 10.
Please tell me
who would start in front of Portis from the Ravens or shut the hell up.
“We have 3 running backs who could start for [the Redskins]” is an asinine comment, unless there is a back who’s producing more than CP, which there isn’t, thereby automatically launching you into the position of jackass.
I appreciate your posting here, but please be intelligent when you do so.
TTB!
I'm also fascinated by
your prediction that the Ravens will score more points on the Skins than any team this year, and any team since the Skins got stomped by NE in 07 as far as my memory serves. Any backup for your surprising prediction?
TTB!
Perhaps he meant
since Portis is always hurting and the Ravens always have one RB ready to step up and star. Portis is having a great season but has disappeared agains the big defenses, just like he will in Baltimore. Yeah, our wins have been over mostly poorly playing teams, but the four losses are to the top teams in the league and we’ve never had a real close one with the rest, as we’ve taken care of business and put Baltimore Beatdowns on them, scoring over 30 points in four games.
Remember, even you guys said the Giants didn’t play well and they STILL beat you 23-7! They played great against us in New York and if you took out their three long runs, they were kept in check. Still, the Giants are the best in the league and we won’t have to see them again until the Super Bowl, if we make it that far. Besides, we have a rookie QB and were supposed to lose to all these patsies that we’ve beaten. Trust me, the line will show the difeerence between these teams and the final score will cement it. Hopefully your division buddies, Dallas, will help a brother out and go into Pittsburgh and knock them off as well. THAT would be a great day!

Humble?
Lol. Get owned by the G-Men Ravens. You can’t dance w/ the Big Dogs of the NFL. Your record is littered w/ hallow W’s. Who have you guys actually beaten? Your benefiting from cup cake opp. You prob think your gunna run the table and get into a wild card spot. Lol better luck next year. Sorry skin fans I’m done.
You know, you may be right
in that we haven’t proven we can run with the Big Dogs of the NFL. We’ve lost those big games and until we start winning them, we will be part of the pretenders instead of contenders. We’ll get that chance in two weeks when the Steelers come to our house. Luckily, the Redskins are not part of the Big Dog Pack, so this week is just another example of what everyone, including you, will be saying about how we beat up on the cup cakes!

Giants fan here
Let’s see, we beat the ravens by 20 and the ‘Skins by 16. I’d say the two teams are pretty even, except the skins were able to stop the run. The old whine “If it wasn’t for all those huge plays” really comes up empty. Either you stop big plays or you don’t.
I watched both games start to finish and I’d say the Giants’ effort and results in both games were similar. Given my choice, I’d rather play Baltimore again than the ‘Skins.
I’ll have to root ‘Skins the rest of the way out to edge the Cowgirls. Plus they’re the only NFC East team I’ve ever respected.
Your boy is right about them needing a good 2nd back though.

Meh
The Giants are better than I gave them credit for, but they still ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY ARE.
Good, God, did Eli get lucky a number of times. How many picks did we let go by, particularly the one that Springs knocked out of Hall’s hands?
My biggest disappointment was the play calling. When we did the unexpected, it paid off handsomely against an overpursuing G defense. We gave up on the run too early. And then in the 4th quarter, when we had to throw, it was almost always boring 1-on-1 matchups long. Too impatient.
I’m actually fairly confident the Skins will bounce back for our remaining games. We have a far better row to hoe than Dallas. Philly, Cincy and SF are very manageable wins. I’m a little more concerned about the Ravens, but not much. All of their victories have come over teams with losing records except Miami and Philadelphia, neither of whom we’d have a problem with. Our record is comparable despite our playing in a much tougher division. Dallas, meanwhile, plays NY and Pittsburgh in the final 4 weeks.
What we really need for insurance, aside from taking care of business, is for Carolina to lose a couple games. Given their schedule from here on out (Tampa Bay, Giants, Denver, NO), I think there’s a very good chance of that.
Voice of reason
Great voice of understanding, the Redskins ARE WHO they ARE. Yesterday sucked, but so did the first game against the Giants, some teams match up against other teams that well. The offense needs to score points, and until that is worked out it’s going to be a fight each week, even next week against Bal’imore.
Yeah, but...
…you’ve lost three of your last four, and only beat the two prior teams (Cleveland and Detroit) by a hair, much less losing at HOME to St. Louis. Before you take credit from us based on whom we played, at least we destroyed those teams, as good teams are supposed to. Yeah, we lost to the tough ones, but as we said earlier, the Redskins do not nearly fall into that category. Check out our home record this year and over the past eight it is the third best in the NFL. Besides,, even though we lost AT Pittsburgh, ON Monday Night Football, it was real close (23-20), while you guys rolled over at HOME to the Steelers in front of the entire country. Sorry, two completely different teams heading in two completely different directions.

oh, puhleeeeeeze,
just shut the hell up. save it for baltimore beatdown.
i don’t give a crap about your past 8 seasons. i give a crap about this year.
cleveland dismantled NY the week before we beat them and we stopped them cold. and how is it that you beating cleveland by 10 is “destroying” them, while us beating the lions by 8 is beating them by “a hair”? lol.
guess what? at the end of the season, a victory is a victory, and they don’t give you points for running up the score.
i repeat, you guys have beaten TWO teams with winning records this year—and our record correctly reflects the fact that we’ve had to play the NFC east 5 times already. I like how you skip over us beating dallas and philly at home. or how our completely battered team kept it closer to the giants than you did two weeks ago.
we’ll see how it plays out on sunday. i gotta tell you, i’m really not too intimidated, and i doubt the ’skins are either. so take it somewhere else, troll.
NFC East Most Overrated Conference in NFL
Everyone loves to give the NFC East props as the toughest conference, but that is so not true! The Eagles never know when to show up, the Cowboys have been really good and really bad this year and the Redskins, well, nevermind. Only the Giants are the best team in the NFL this year. Top to bottom, I’ll take the NFC South this year, or even the AFC East. However, ask Cincy and Cleveland what it’s like to have to play the Steelers and Ravens defense twice each year and they’ll tell you they’d rather face you guys anyday!
Yeah we might have only beaten Cleveland by 10 in their house, but we did come from 14 down and put 37 up on them. You’ve never even hit 30 points all year!
This is great fun, and we have the rest of the week to keep it up. I can’t wait for the game!

Division power rankings
“top to bottom, I’ll take the NFC South this year, or even the AFC East.”
surely you must be joking.
you really think the Jets/Patriots/Dolphins/Bills would have a chance against the Giants and Cowboys? the Jets are a farce, the Patriots can’t beat any of the better teams on their schedule, the Dolphins have beaten Seattle, Oakland, and St. Louis in their last four, and with the way the Bills are playing right now, I’m pretty sure the Eagles would beat them by about 30. if not for padding their win totals with the putrid AFC and NFC West Divisions, the AFC East wouldn’t look so hot. they look a lot better on paper than they really are.
as far as the NFC South goes, look at the head-to-head matchups this year: Dallas beat Tampa Bay without Tony Romo, Philly beat Atlanta by 13, and the Skins beat New Orleans. Carolina still has to go @NYG.
just my two cents.

Good argument
However, other than the Giants, none of the rest of the NFC East has been consistent from one week to the next. At the same time, the Dolphins and Bills have surprised a lot of teams and the Jets and Pats are fighting for a playoff spot and certainly one of them will win the AFC East crown, while the other might make it as a Wild Card (though I doubt it). Over in the NFC East, the Giants are in and most likely the Cowboys as well, unless of course they lose to both the Steelers and Ravens, at which point their season will be in limbo. the Eagles and your ’Skins are not going anywhere, as there are too many other NFC teams that would have to roll over for them to back into the post season. By that account, then there is a lot to compare between the two conferences.
At the same time, I’ll take the AFC North’s Steelers-Ravens against any two teams in any conference, yes even the Giants-Cowboys. I can’t help it if the Bengals and Browns drag down this division!
Rexx
and the Jets have been consistent?
they lost to Oakland and then beat the Patriots on the road. they beat the Titans by three touchdowns in Nashville and then got pounded by the Broncos at home. The Bills sure have been consistent with their 5-1 start and 1-5 stretch since. at least they’ve consistently sucked for about six weeks.
seeing as how the Giants already beat Pittsburgh on the road and whacked the Ravens at home, i guess the next two weeks (Dallas at Pittsburgh, vs. Ravens) will decide this argument. i’d be shocked if Dallas didn’t at least split that pair.

Sorry to have disappeared,
I got kinda swamped….
When I said “save it for Baltimore Beatdown”, I didn’t realize you were Baltimore Beatdown! ;) Welcome.
I’m still swamped but just wanna say this: if the Skins win out, it would be hard for us to NOT make the playoffs. If you look at the schedule the Cowgirls and Panthers have, both of those teams are likely to lose at least one, if not two of their remaining games. There should certainly be an opening for us.
