Campbell

Hey guys this is MasterRWayne from the Colts blog. I have a fantasy draft in a few months and I am thinking of rolling the dice on Jason Campbell. He looked solid last year and I think he could be explosive in this offense. I mean with the running game and all the weapons he has at receiver and Cooly at tight end I just think the guy could put up really solid numbers. Besides, Campbell will fall way down in most drafts and I think he could be a total steal. Please provide me with any insight you might have on this guy. I would greatly appreciate it.

Absolutely.
I would take him late as your backup with the expectation that he could definitely become the starter. No one is going to take a chance on him but the stars look aligned for huge fantasy production.

First, Al Saunders returns the 700 page playbook offense which has been described by those familiar with it (Todd Collins) as requiring a good year to engage fully. That year has passed.

Santana Moss is a huge receiver capable of a 1,500 yard season, so view last year's lack of production as anomalous. He's going to have solid production in 2007 and JC is the guy throwing him the rock.

Chris Cooley remains one of the best tight ends in the NFC, perhaps NFL, and will also provide numbers for Campbell.

The only real question mark is our redzone offense, which struggled last year. The team is spending a lot of time focusing on how to fix that, and should be considerably better next year, or so we hope.

Finally, the last thing you want in a QB is a mistake prone guy who is occasionally going to sink your team with a zero touchdown, 3 pick game. JC has completed the most hazardous stretch of a QB career sans that horrid game, never once throwing fewer than 1 touchdown and never more than 2 interceptions. A 10:6 TD:Int ratio is outstanding for a QB in his first start, especially one taking reps with the 2nd team pretty much up until that moment he sees field. No lost fumbles. This kid is going to be 2:1 on TD:Int next year and isn't going to sink your team. Against bad defenses he could be good enough to throw in on top of your starting QB.

I think it's a bit risky to pick him as your #1 (not that you need to, he'll fall) though I totally advocate doing so, given he's my boy. Also, he has a kick ass mustache.

Yeah...
I am in a keeper league so I am keeeping Ronnie Brown, Reggie Bush and Frank Gore. That leaves me to stack up on all the other positions and grabbing JC at around round 6 or 7. Its a ricky idea I know but it might just work!

Plus, if it's a keeper league...
you might want this guy for the next few years...
