All-Important Pick #179

Please let it be a linesman. the Big East Defensive Player of the Year.

Washington Redskins select... H.B. Blades, Linebacker, Pittsburgh

This appears to be another good pick, or it would be, if we needed a linebacker. Given that I've actually heard of him, I can't be too unhappy about this. ESPN notes that H.B.'s father Bennie played for the Lions and Seahawks. Uncles Brian and Al also saw some time in the league. More info on him here. Who needs a D-Line, anyways?

Videos: Sportscenter hilight of Blades rockin' some Louisville receiver. Another video of him intercepting Drew Stanton.

Scary.

Beautiful Hit

ugh
I'm getting increasingly disgusted and am nearing tears.

They say they're happy with the line...but can't we at least draft Daniel's eventual replacement for when he's 48 years old and the team finally decides to replace him???

He's short...
about 5'10"...but I don't place much emphasis on height except for in the case of Tight Ends and Receivers.  From what I've read, he can become a starter.  Think Zach Thomas.  They said he was too short to be successful (my ass).  I suppose they may groom him to Replace Fletcher come year 3-4.

try to find one him running over someone
I scoured through the campus newspaper archives, team website, AP... nothing.  This troubles me.

All I've got is
the picture where he's staring down the cameraman.

I'll post a video in a sec...

What do you think?
About this linebacker stuff. Clearly the coaches feel a lot more confident in our Defensive Line than I do. The season will determine who is right/wrong, but there's no denying that Daniels and Griffin are old and that the people behind them are either unproven (Montgomery) or non-starter quality (Evans). I think this is great news if you're Renaldo Wynn sweating out whether the team is going to cut you.

I think it raises some red flags about Marcus Washington and Lemar Marshall. Also, I wonder about McIntosh. Everything that has happened this offseason has been about our linebackers. We wanted Briggs. We were allegedly talking to Vilma. We brought in London Fletcher. Now we've drafted two guys. Does the coaching staff have confidence in McIntosh? Or did they just pick linebackers because they were the best player available?

Strange day.

hmm
Leaving the big picture stuff up to you.  I'm just inexplicably watching hour after hour of NFL draft and finding pictures.

If you watched him this year...
you know the kid can play.  He just runs around making tackle after tackle, which is a good quality to have in a MLB.

Problem is, they just signed their MLB.  I don't understand this at all.

I'm gussing the kid from USC can be moved to DE, because I'm not sure why with 5 picks, the team doesn't address DE, much less the DL as a whole, at all.

Either that or with their new influx of CBs and Landry, the defense plans to blitz every down....

Though it makes no sense...
That they'd pick linebackers (though it would appear that the were among the better defensive players left) I can see were this might go.  In with the cheap young guys, and out with the moderately more expensive vets.  It makes little sense to me if this is Coach Gibb's doing, he's likely gone in a year, maybe two.

Perhaps it's getting William's "D" ready for when he takes over...But I can see Marshall backing up on weak side, and the new guys backing up their respective positions with all others hitting the pavement.  Having linebackers on special teams is always nice, though we do have like 6 safties as well.   I have no earthly idea what's going on up there.

PS...I just had a meeting here at work, and these people are idiots.
